Hatsune Miku Project Diva series general discussion thread

New songs/modules covered in this week's Famitsu. Amazing Dolce looks like a Hansel and Gretel motif?

Streaming Heart and Slow Motion very similar to their original PVs and the Oster medley has nearly everyone in it.

11/19 Weekly Diva Station update recapping things we've already learned from magazines, as usual. There are a lot of details about Live Quest that I should leave to others to describe better. Selected images:

(There's a YouTube upload, but it appears to be region locked.)

Looks like it might be blocked in the US because of Youtube RED, the video works perfectly fine here (Italy). :)

The game looks nice, but I'm really sad they ditched the story PVs and will only use dance PVs. It's a shame they only showed Miku songs in this trailer, I'm really curious about that Meiko/Rin/Len song since it's apparently new? Next trailer hopefully.

I shouldn't get my hopes up, but with the videos being much simpler looking I hope that they can make the game native resolution on the Vita.

Oh, I also like the songs that they're been adding. I don't really know any of them but they seem fun and sound nice.

I'd be fine with either one, even with just the notes being 60FPS, but I've been playing the F games at 30 anyway so it wouldn't bother me as much if they couldn't.

Besides, they've gone for presentation over framerate in the F series, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they prioritized.
In fact, F2nd's final delay was to attempt to up the resolution, which is where the native resolution characters in menus came in.

Though admittedly a short delay wouldn't be enough to double the framerate.

The last serious time I spent with Project DIVA I actually played Dreamy Theater instead for the most part. I find them far more playable and enjoyable than the F series at this point.

In any case, Miracle Girls Festival streets next week. I wouldn't expect a serious engine reworking for that, but it would be a great sign of things to come if it had a framerate bump.

At least you had different instruments/note charts to play through though.

I really wanted to like that game, but the Don't Say Lazy outfits not being in was a glaring omission.

Hey, my Houkago Tea Time members were stylish when they were rockin' thanks to all the the outfit options and accessories you could unlock. For me, this made up for not having the Don't Say Lazy outfits.

So I've probably made a big mistake.

I decided at the last minute to change the delivery of Miracle Girls Festival to my work address instead of my PO Box like normal because I normally can't make it out to the post office until the day after delivery, while I can take deliveries personally at work. But it shipped later in the week than I thought (it literally just went out the door in the last hour or two) and now I'm looking at it probably not getting across the ocean, clearing customs, and getting to the office by Friday, and no one is at the office to accept packages on weekends. So I'm proooobably not getting the game until Monday now .-.

I'm really looking forward to Miracle Girls impressions. I don't think it's for me since the song count is low and I don't know any of the anime, but if it's super good I might still get it.

I'm curious to know if they can make a native res game. P4D spoiled me, that game was so pretty.

I'll find out tonight I guess.

Also looking for impressions on MGF. If Diva X wasn't out in March I'd consider have picking it up (Diva engine being my preferred rhythm game one), but with 22 songs, and just three months to Diva X, I can be patient.

There's a demo out
seems like interactions and UI elements are full res
dancers are sub res
notes are 30 fps

Well, I've been playing Miracle Girls Festival for like an hour.

Seems like 30 FPS
Looks okay. Doesn't look as good as P4DAN.
Both cut and full length versions of the songs are playable. The shorter versions have like... 8 difficulties? Your typical 4 (Easy/Normal/Hard/Extreme), Expand-Play Hard/Extreme and Ura-Play Hard/Extreme. Full versions of songs have Hard and Extreme difficulties.
Songs unlock from Tour mode, but unlocking the various difficulties is confusing.
I have no idea what's going on in tour mode.

I'm enjoying it so far.

Quick impressions:
-Definitely not as pretty as P4D, though not as bad as f. Frame rate could be better. UI is kinda obtuse too.
-Feels nice having no touch component in the rhythm gameplay at all. Back to PSP era diva.
-Progression is quite different. There is a "Tour" mode and a "One Man Live" mode. Tour mode presents you with a canned set of songs and difficulties spread out over a number of days, and at the end of each day the score is totaled and must exceed a limit to proceed to the next day. Songs always seem to be short versions. If you end each song with the Voltage/Miracle gauge on Max then you will have an opportunity for an Encore song, which is a song from the list, but at a Hard difficulty and the full-length version. Completing songs here unlocks them in "One Man Live" mode. One Man Live is closer to a traditional free play system only you don't unlock new songs as you clear here, only new difficulties by filling out a set of conditions on a "Bingo Card" style grid. New songs are also purchasable in the store by using Miracle Coins (DP). Overall this way of progression is a little more engaging but might be annoying to those that just want to go straight to extreme.
-Scoring seems much more lenient than the diva games, though I'll admit I don't understand the entirety of it yet. Seems like you have to really do horrible to get less than an excellent. Your Voltage guage at the bottom goes from 0-200%, and they add to that the percentage of Cool/Fine notes to a total of 300% in the case of a full combo "Miracle". 280% and above is Excellent.
-there is a setting to turn off the audience cheering if you don't like it.
-looks like after 2 tours I have 20/22 songs unlocked and on tour 3 I can start building my own setlist. yay.

Will give some more details later, but outside of the graphics it is fun so far.

Edit: damn good songs announced for X today!

Whoops, didn't think there would be a DIVA X news release with Miracle Girls Festival up this week, but here we are:

I like how they're going for the in-game art style in the opening. I found the characters pretty ugly in F and F 2nd's opening.

Chaos Medley seems pretty cool. I'm curious to hear what it sounds like. I also wonder how long the medley songs will be.

Kinda would have loved to see what kind of crazy PV they would have cooked up for 聖槍爆裂ボーイ. Everything being performances seems so limiting.

I hope there are still some really good PVs. That's what I liked most about extend and the F games.
... Then again good performances can still be pretty okay (like ColourfulxMelody is, though maybe it's 'cause that song helps) though some can be so boring (like the ones in F2nd from the original PSP game and 2nd).

I'm assuming that was an effort to reign in the budget.

I think the other half of this is so the games can serve as a pipeline for producing more animations for the concerts.

Look as Akatsuki Arrival in 2014 - only half of the in-game PV was usable for the Magical Mirai version later that year.

Ugh, they always win me over with their stupidly pretty modules. Also, is Sacred Spear Explosion Boy now the most explicit song in the series? I think the worst we had before that was, like, On the Rocks or something.

They sure are going all out with that + Gigantic OTN on the GigaP themed medley lol

Went to the post office to pick up the game yesterday. Not a great situation to be in considering it was the last weekend before Christmas...

Anyway, going to stream Miracle Girls Festival for a bit (with lunch/PSO2 breaks) http://hitbox.tv/starcreator

EDIT: Stream over for now, but will probably pick it up again later tonight. Recording here: http://www.hitbox.tv/video/814142

This game heavily reminds me of The Idolmaster: Shiny Festa games on the PSP, just produced using the the Project Diva engine. Very interesting how they incorporated both the short and full versions of the theme songs in the game.

As a big fan of the Phantom of the Opera AND Kaito, that module alone makes the game an instabuy for me. I'm still picking up myself from the floor after being knocked out.

Not happy about the PVs being performances only, though. The choreography and mini stories are the biggest reasons I enjoy Project Diva games.

Man, after going Nendoroid, it's gonna be hard going back.
I didn't love Project Diva anywhere near as much as Project Mirai.
Even the more limited sim options were so much more enjoyable with the adorableness.

I just bought the song club for Project Diva F 2nd last week... was anyone else kind of disappointed that there weren't any more difficult songs? Like, isn't the DLC exactly where you want to put all of the most difficult tracks for the dedicated players?

I should have looked up the song difficulties before I bought it, and I'm not upset per se, just disappointed. The diva games are becoming a bit too easy for me, since I don't really enjoy going for increasingly high clear percentages.

I can't pass the most difficult expert songs in diva games (took me around 100 tries to beat Negaposi, and I have never beaten Dream Fever) so if I had known the DLC would just have been super expert songs I wouldn't have bothered.

I believe they were just much more concerned with song type and variety and not difficulty.

That being said, if you're dissatisfied, purchase Future Tone when it hits PS4 and pick EX Extreme on every song. That's probably the hardest it'll ever get.

Dont feel bad, best I've done in 2D Dream Fever is like 77% or so, I'm just stuck at that >.<

I mean, I can't beat the absolute hardest songs—I've never beaten 2D Dream Fever, and I can only beat Two-Sided Lovers every once in a while—but there are so few songs that even come close to that difficulty. The most difficult song in the DLC is Rolling Girl (which was, unfortunately, also the one extra song that I already owned.)

I love Rolling Girl, I should get Diva f and also f 2nd's DLC eventually. I've just been playing my friend's copy of Diva f XD
