Have you jumped on the foldable phone bandwagon yet?

Apple is at least a year behind when it comes to tech, Cameras and AI (Google) compared to the Android (specifically the Chinese) I don't think Apple will be able to leap frog them. The days of BlackBerry and Nokia are long gone.
Not what I meant. I mean Apple doesn't jump (normally) into a tech unless its well proven and 90% there. Thus when they jump onto folding screens I'll believe they are to a point that is acceptable.

It's been 5 years since the first Galaxy fold. The tech has been there for at least 2 years now.

It hasn't. Even the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is still showing creases.
The technology is there. The newest foldables are barely thicker than an iPhone and weigh less than some slab phones. When it comes to weight, size, battery life, screens, UI it's there. The fold 6 has the most noticeable crease on the market and even then it's not very noticeable when the screen is on.
You've moved the goalpost from wanting the technology to be 90% there to foldables not having a crease and you think Apple will be the one to innovate and the one to do it?

The latest foldables weigh less than a Galaxy S24 Ultra. The iphone 15 pro max weighs 222 grams. How do you expect a foldable to weigh 180? Please stop with the misinformation
I said "regular phone" , not phablet . And I also said "one day" , hoping that in the coming future where we will have light enough foldables with technological advancement , preferably at 180g . Reading comprehension nowadays ... sheesh

You said "unfolded phone" which means foldable
Maybe if there are a 8.5" unfolded phone one day but weighing 180g

You want foldables to weigh 180? Do you have phone now? I'm sure it weighs more than that.

In short, I placed an order for a Fold 9 Pro. As pricey as it is, I'll also be getting a free watch with the cash back offer. ( Will be getting 550 dollars in Google store credit )

I think it's worth a shot, I did demo a Samsung fold, and the notch is not really that bad.

As much as I like my one plus 9 pro, needs a battery replacement..

I do like the idea of a bigger screen for multiasking, I do save pictures on my phone only to upload them again often. I see the drag and drop features as valuable.

Also the format of a phablet would be benefit read in my downtime.

FOr the price, I do question why they skipped on the cameras vs the slab, and battery, I would think that one side would be free space for a bigger battery.

This obsession with thinner and lighter has really gone too far.

i have the fold 4 and the piece of shit middle screen breaks and it's a common issue.

would not recommend, you stuck with a slim lowsy front screen when that does happen

I want a flip but they need to improve screen durability and get rid of that crease.

I have a OnePlus 11 and durability is a big thing for me. I'm still not convinced a foldable will last past a year.

I'm on a S21 Ultra so was very close to getting a Fold 6 but the following put me off:

- S pen can't be used on the cover screen
- Same battery as Fold 3
- Terribly slow charging
- Average camera
- The price (can get an S24 Ultra for a couple hundred dollars cheaper than this)

Had Fold 6 had the same features and camera set as the S24 Ultra then it would have been a definite purchase.

Will wait to see what S25 Ultra is like.

The camera is what's putting me off from getting a foldable because they're not as good a flagship. Id personally go with Vivo or Xiaomi they are thinner, lighter and have better cameras and battery life than the fold 6 also one of them can use the stylus on the outside screen.

Exactly. Samsung dropped a massive stinker with the Fold 6. It could have been so much better. I honestly though it would be the S24 Ultra in foldable form. That would more than justify the sky high price tbh.

Hopefully they come out with a Galaxy Fold line of phones that mirrors that have all the high end features of the regular galaxy line. I would be down with that.

Ewww no thanks. Were reverting back to giant cell phones from the 80s. Eventually we be holding tablets next to our ears.

They've gotten complacent because only a few Chinese brands are available in the West but they'd better stop resting on their laurels

Took a look at the Pixel 9 Fold. Seems very nice, but it's too expensive. My Pixel 6 is still going strong, and I could see myself getting another two years out of it.

Yeah $1800 is steep. Id pay about $1400 max for a foldable but not until they have cameras on par with flagship phones

If I still had to travel often for work I could see buying one so I wouldn't have to lug around both a phone and tablet or small laptop for quick productivity work and note taking, stuff like that. But since I am working from home 95% of the time now I wouldn't want to give up my iPhone and the Apple ecosystem for Android and Google (who I think have fallen way off in the past several years in terms of the quality of their app and service offerings - just my opinion).

I am very much interested in Flip. Galaxy flip looks tempting, most likely will be my next upgrade. But don't like Fold. Too big

I actually like the Motorola razr flip whatever it's called better it's got a bigger out screen and can run more apps on the outer screen than Samsung's fold.

Well I am still rocking with iPhone 13 mini because of it's size and pocketability. If Apple comes out with foldable option, I will definitely think about folding phone.

Had (still have) the first Samsung Fold and have the 6 now. I'm all in on foladables.

Samsung and LG have shown off working trifold prototypes for years now. I suspect there's good reason they (especially Samsung) haven't made them into actual products though.

Anyway, I'm not touching Chinese OEM stuff with a barge pole for other reasons.

There's so much wrong with this comment, I don't know where to start.

Apple have arguably the best cameras (when considering software and hardware combined) right now.

Google's AI... yeah, nah.

As for Nokia and Blackberry back in the day, Nokia had by far the best cameras and pretty powerful OSes. Blackberry had very good OSes and some very good hardware. Meanwhile, iOS didn't even have copy and paste for a few years.

I'm 'trapped' in the Apple ecosystem otherwise I would be all aboard the foldables train for sure.

So as Evilore says, I have to wait for Apple to 'innovate'.

Iphone's camera is not even in the top 3 with it's shitty small camera sensors, horrible nighttime shots and blown out highlights. In terms of AI Apple is 2-3 years behind. https://www.gizchina.com/2024/08/15/google-ai-vs-apple-ai-mark-gurman-analysis/

Anyway this is thread is about foldables

absolutely NEVER. I had foldable phones in 2004. its a nightmare opening every 2 seconds to send a text

If the thing folded to protect its physical keyboard then it was better to text on than a modern phone. If only had a num pad, the real reason it was a nightmare wasn't the folding.

Nope because they're super expensive also having a crease down the middle would annoy the crap outta me. Also the hinge still has flaws with cracks and all. I love the tech but not for the forseeable future.

If there was one with the size of an iPhone 4G when opened I'd buy it in a heartbeat. It would be such a tiny gadget when folded.

Samesung's last 3 foldables around 12.5 mm vs the Magic V3 at 9.2 mm thick. The difference is jarring. It also has a larger battery than the fold. Releasing in Europe soon.

Ok, gonna bite :
What's the status with Honor here in Europe ? What happens if you need repairs ? How's their customer service/after sales ?
Can you use the Google play store normally?

Fuck man, just got the S24 ultra 😭

Sorry I can't help you. I'm in America where our choices are Samsung and Google if you're team Android. I've been importing phones for at least 5 years now. Honor is unveiling the phone at some trade show in Germany on Sept 5 Yes the global version will come with google Play store.

I had one of the original flip phones, 15 years ago, it was ok, a Motorola, but no it's not a priority for me although they do look good, i wonder how sturdy they will be, i have to have an SD card slot in my phones, they are disappearing from the more expensive phones now.
