HDTVTest - LG 2022 TVs leaked including new 42" C2 OLED

nice.
But after getting 48" this year, I hope they will still do 48" c2 because I am not downgrading to 42" most likely

I tried the 48" as a PC monitor last time and it was too big. I'm interested in the 42", though, and will give it another shot.

This LG 42" OLED wasn't really a leak, it was supposed to come out this year but they pushed it out to next year. I've been waiting for it for months now, can't wait early next year to pick it up. I think its rumored to go for $999.

The 48 inch c2 is basically going to be the same tv unless it has a heatsink, which is doubtful for the c series but esp. at that size. G2 will likely have a heatsink but at larger sizes.

If you still get a 48" c2 I will think you are rich lol.

I only plan to retire my 42" 2008 sony bravia in the living room... so you know.. my 48" c1 could go there and new oled land on my desk.
Wen you think about it 10x0% payment plan - we are all rich !

Seems strange if Samsung and Sony don't respond to this with something next year as the high end and even some of the mid range sales are going to be destroyed by a 42A1 price, not at launch but like 6 months in like where we are now. Surely it has to be QD-OLED because miniLED just doesn't cut it with the zone counts achieved so far, it looks awesome but it still has the weaknesses OLED does not.

I already see LG taking LCD sales away with its A1 price this year. Like the Samsung 50Q80A and Sony 50X90J because they are so fat, more expensive and have worse PQ, as soon as they see the 48A1 they buy that, and I don't work for LG but I tell them to buy it as I have no offering in that size and its just overall better than the Sony or Samsung. The QN90A at least has the slimmer profile but it still can't compete PQ-wise.

Just got my 48 inch C1 this week, still need to get used to the size but it isn't too much to handle. A 42 inch would have been preferable but I needed a tv asap so I couldn't wait 3-5 months for the 2022 releases.

There's a small selection of 43" monitors that may be in trouble if the C2 lives up to their reputation established by the C1.

What scared me off from 43" panels is that they are typically VA, BGR layout abominations. With some questionable HDMI 2.1 support (at least one 43" monitor is running at 24gb/sec.

Huh? Leak? LG announced the 42" last CES for 2021, and confirmed several months ago they were delaying it to the 2022 lineup due to the chip shortages and shipping crisis.

Currently I have a 43" telly, I would take the new 42" over the 48" any day of the week. In fact the reason I haven't upgraded to OLED was the screen size. This is mega.

Do you have enough room for that? I'm impressed.

There will be no A2 model for the 42" as A2 doesn't have HDMI 2.1 and is limited to 60hz....

LG is going sell the 42" to gamers so they will make the C2 only at that size: and it's the right choice

If they make that 42" OLED in a curved format I may not resist replacing my current 34" UWQHD.

Though I'm still wary of using an OLED on a desktop PC.

It does seem a bit insane that the "best" monitor on the market today is actually an OLED TV.

32inch 4K monitors all seemingly underperform for the price they're asking for. 27-28 inch 144hz monitors outperform them - and are currently the sweet spot in terms of performance. But nearly all of them are not great at HDR.

The crazy part is the asking price of some of these monitors are not too far off from the price of an LG C1 48. That makes it exceedingly difficult to pull the trigger on a 32 inch monitor that's priced the same as a 48" OLED yet performs significantly worse.

The two MiniLED monitors I know of are exceedingly expensive, and the Samsung is basically a disaster in terms of QC. Both are also significantly more expensive than an LG C1.

YMMV of course, this is all observations from shopping for a monitor recently. Decided my best play is to just wait until the next wave hits so most of the issues on hand can be addressed.

42'' at the far end of my desk would surely be quite cool. Would be a big upgrade from 27'' 1440p, but I can move it back another 5-6 inch or so or mount it to the wall

Ah my dream of LG making one day an 34" Ultra Wide OLED Monitor is coming nearer, my money is ready.
I just read that Samsung will start production of QD-OLEDs at the end of this month, and supposedly they're going to be making a 34" one. Not ultra wide, but still closer to what we want.

You can use Nvidia control panel (or AMD equivalent) to run a custom resolution of 3440x1440 or 3840x1600 on a 4k tv and you have yourself and ultrawide! I do this on my 65 in 4k tv bc I get better fps at these resolutions than 4k and of course a better aspect ratio/FOV. You just have black bars on the top and bottom of your screen but with an OLED that is not a problem since OLED black screen is as dark as bezel (darker even). I hope I'm the first to tell you this and that you're pumped to hear it! Good luck and have fun!

Samsung is a brand which I no longer trust.

Their recent TVs are utter garbage.

I do wish more TV manufacturers would make TVs in the sub 50 sizes. I'm currently using some shit 40" LCD TV as my PC monitor. Whilst it is functional, the input lag and contrast is quite poor.

Sadly most TV manufacturers gimp their smaller TV sets.

Happy to see LG bring us a 42" OLED however. This would be perfect as a TV monitor.

I love my 50" X90J, but I think I may sell it and get this 42" OLED. I consider 43" the absolute sweet spot for me personally so that is right there. PPI is going to be great. I hope they get rid of the stand they currently use on the C1/CX and make it not that wide. Interested to see if Sony will also be selling a 42".

I wonder what will LG add into C2 model. I mean it has all the features we need for consoles, is there anything missing?

Looks like it, what I said still applies to the 50Q80A, 50QN90A and 50X90J then. It will be £799 or £849 by this time time next year I'd bet unless its just going to be the same as the 48" price due to them losing money from not cutting that size instead.

I'm confused as to why you said the bolded? Whats refresh rate and 2.1 support got to do with whether they would make a 42" version of the model? As far as I'm aware these TVs are still primarily being bought by people looking to use it for TV/movies, where 2.1 is borderline meaningless and while 120hz processing is a benefit people still enjoy the A1 without it.

QMS?

and more perfected VRR support that doesn't have gamma/near black issues.

That's what I was thinking could be one of the improvements.

It's good they are including the 42" in the more higher C series. I don't know of anyone that can compete with LG at that 43"/42" size (unless Sony jumps in the game). Saw the other day Samsung yet again gimped their 43" (QN90A) with a 60hz panel. Screw that company.

We don't even get the 43QN90A in the UK so 50"+ is 120hz. They do gimp the Q60A to 60hz in the 43" size at least though, plus no true 10-bit panel but I'm not sure how much difference that really makes from what I've read and seen.

QMS would be great for games where the cutscenes are lower fps than the game because you could actually switch to the lower refresh rate in real-time with no black screen instead of just (effectively) running it in a 60fps container, which caused big issues with Kena and its 24fps cutscenes, although I'm aware thats an outlier it could still be good for 60fps games with 30fps cutscenes I think.

I have an axe to grind against Samsung TVs for that reason.

Sony TVs are good, except the awful blooming and low dimming zone counts.

The perfect PC monitor would be a 42-43" Sony MiniLED TV - if such a thing existed. Their motion and colour accuracy tends to be best out of the box.

I would love to get this 42" C2, however, I do have a fear for burn-in.

Sony should undercut and make a 32" with every port imaginable, im a desktop gamer, couch gaming was okay in the wonder years, but i play competitive online games, I gotta sit nice and close.

Hope there will be a decent sale when those lunch. Will be hunting for the 77c1 next year. I am sure the 83 will be way over my budget...
