Hell Let Loose |OT| WWII Brought to Life - PC, (PS5, XSX, Coming Late 2021)

Welcome everyone! With the announcement of this game coming to consoles I'm hoping that the community will continue to grow!

The developers of this game are extremely talented and hardworking and they are constantly active in their social media communities. They deserve all the praise in the world.

In this gaming world of repetitive and unfinished AAA shooters, this Indy title and this dev team is a breath of fresh air.

Woah, didn't know this game. Looks awesome. Watched some gameplays, the maps are insanely huge and detailed. I will download the demo to give it a try and decide if I will buy it. Now, THIS looks impressive. Way more impressive than the latest blockbuster shooters.

The beta on PS5 was great, I had a lot of fun and it felt like playing games like Squad/ARMA on the PC, because many people actually communicated with each other. In fact, since everybody has a build in microphone now, there should be no excuse not communicating.
I would have bought it anyway, great to get it with PSPlus.
But still many things to fix. I hope they adjusted the controls, which felt weird, the Minimap sometimes just swapped from touchpad to d-pad and marking was not possible no more. Also the performance was ok but there was a lot of stuttering.

Again no swastikas right??
Really? Imagine taking a historical movie seriously if it censored emblems of the time.

Just reminds you that gaming has a long way to go to mature. Sadly, it’s gone backwards thanks to safe space zealots who crumble upon seeing anything they are told is bad.

Putting that aside, this game may be right up my alley.

Played an hour this morning. Outside of a weird stuttering issue that happens occasionally, this is an absolutely blinding port and I’m loving it on console. Image quality is fantastic and the controls are spot on.

Now it’s about finding some good people to squad up with who use headsets. Game is damn impossible to win without good communication.

This is an old steam thread and obviously it's about the PC version. But probably every non-German will have swastikas in game.

Swastikas don't even have to be censored no more in Germany, Wolfenstein 2 / Young Blood were two of the first games, which released in an international version in Germany.

5. consideration of signs of unconstitutional organizations

The use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations is punishable in principle pursuant to § 86a of the German Criminal Code (StGB) and is only permissible within narrow limits in individual cases in accordance with § 86a (3) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Section 86 (3) of the Criminal Code (social adequacy).18 The case law, the elements of the offense are not already realized if the if the label is obviously used precisely for the purpose of criticizing the unconstitutional unconstitutional organization, e.g. in the case of a crossed-out swastika or a recognizably swastika or if it is used in a recognizably caricature-like manner (teleological limitation of the elements of the offense). If prohibited symbols within the meaning of Section 86a of the German Criminal Code (StGB) in computer games, this can have both criminal law and youth protection law relevance. On the level of criminal law, if there is not already a limitation of the the offence, a balancing of the protected interests of § 86a StGB (free (free democratic basic order/public peace/reputation of the Federal Republic of Federal Republic of Germany abroad), in particular with artistic freedom. At the level of the protection of minors, socially appropriate use is incidentally considered in the the examination of a possible danger to minors, insofar as it is relevant for the relevant to the existence of youth endangerment. The USK review panels examine whether there are elements of youth endangerment (esp. glorification or trivialization of Nazi ideology, brutalization through the of National Socialism) can be ascertained, which would justify the the awarding of an age rating by the OLJB in accordance with § 14 JuSchG. When deciding on the awarding/refusal of an age rating, the following must be taken into account games that contain prohibited characteristics according to § 86a StGB - as with any other any other computer game - a balancing of artistic freedom and the interests of the freedom of art and the protection of minors. If, in the course of the test procedure and taking social adequacy into account, there are no If no indications of a risk to minors are identified in the review process, the game is banned in accordance with Section 14 (1) and (2) JuSchG. 1 and 2 JuSchG, the game will be examined in a second test step for possible impairment of minors. In order to assess the potential for harmfulness of digital games in which unconstitutional organizations pursuant to Section 86a of the German Criminal Code (in particular of National Socialism), their use must be examined on a case-by-case basis. examined on a case-by-case basis. In particular, the framing of the context of the representation (e.g. a critical treatment of historical events, purely fictional material with dystopian scenarios, etc. fictional material with dystopian scenarios or satires exposing ideology). to assess. The players' options for action are to be evaluated for their possible socially and ethically disorienting messages. Children and younger adolescents in particular often do not yet have a sufficient sufficient social and political (orientation) knowledge and no established and political knowledge and a solid moral foundation to correctly distinguish and categorize fictional content from historical events and to classify them. They are in the process of moral development, in which they develop humanity and learn to link their feelings with moral principles. I don't know if publishers even want to address things complicated like this or if it's easier to just not use swastikas. In this case I think it's not that bad but of course I'd like to play the original version of the game.

The biggest tip I can give for anyone starting out in this game is to communicate.

If you are insistent that you hate all forms of communication then only play offense. If you try to play defence without any communication then you'll have a really bad time of it.

Also take your time, learn the maps and stick with your team.

Also, a beginners guide:

If anyone here is UK based and wants to squad up at some point. Let me know.

If you’re new to the game, I’m happy to squad lead and help you along, but please use a headset. It’s more important that you communicate than know how to aim your weapon in this game.

I came to conclusion that you can enjoy this game even without communication if you know what you’re doing. It’s just so realistic and different from your usual FPS, be it CoD or Battlefield. I mean, round can last over an hour, it’s insane…in a good way.

Game is great. I really enjoy the slower, more tactical gameplay. Wish there was more communication though. Maybe it will come after people realize you can’t play this game like COD.

Noticed some lag spikes on XSX and the controls are a little janky. Hopefully that stuff is fixed soon.

I think we're going through a period where there's a ton of people trying this out coming from COD/BF and they will ultimately either be forced to adapt to how the game is set up or they will simply give up.

The devs could do a better job with tutorials (maybe they should integrate some video tutorials in the game) but I also remember during early access on PC that the lack of tutorials is because they want the game to have more of a "sandbox" feel where the teams need to work together to figure out how to win. In that sense they are correct because there is no single repeatable route to victory in this game, since it's not a case of just "kill the enemy and you win".

Even though people aren't keen on the structure of the game here it's nice to see the game starting to get some recognition elsewhere from places I'd usually consider to be more mainstream:

That was one of the things I was considering when an old Bring Back SOCOM thread got bumped, that gaming online is different these days. I was thinking about reasons why that game series from the early-2000s online boom would or would not work in today's gaming market, how run-and-gun shooters are the popular concept these days but there's always room for a smart warfighter, how the BR craze has finally let the no-respawn concept of matches gain ground against more arcadey warfare, how things have changed and some things about the past were great but a lot has gotten better... but suddenly, I realized, fuckin' no way it'd work, because none of these bastards playing will talk with each other anymore!

Community built through communication was a rare gift in the early-2000s boom of online gaming. Unfortunately, we we let it be spoiled by some assholes set upon ruining the experience, and we took it for granted once Party Chat came about. Now, the technology is there and the devices make it easy, but it takes great effort to get gamers to talk with one another. Hopefully games like this one will help bring us back together...

Is it a VR title?

Because as far as i can figure it that's the only way a WW2 shooter will bring it "to life" better than the million such games that came before

Trying really hard to like this game, and past couple nights, I don't have a single kill.

Came very close to uninstalling after the first match.

Being playing without crossplay, and probably a mistake, as everyone is so inexperience in how to play the game. 2nd night I already saw a lot of improvements. Only reason I don't like crossplay, is because I assume PC players are too good to go up against, and they might have control/hardware advantages.

On PS5 here, and game gives you a trophy for losing your first battle! LOL! Rewarding you for losing!

The only thing I see of the enemy, is rare glimpses in the distance, followed shortly by death. There is a lot vegetation, which is cool, but it's really good at hiding the enemy.

Only once, I saw the guy who killed me.

There are like three headquarters on your side of the map, and spawning only takes place on one side of the map, because that is where all the fighting is taking place. 2/3rd's of the map is not even used! (my observation after two matches).

Even had one game where someone in a truck was ferrying us to the front, and he was driving back and forth doing this. I guess he was having fun. I know I wasn't. Why is it, that all your team mates in the back of the lorry, look like zombies. Their eyes are freaking me out.

I absolutely hate it when "Friendly fire" is on! Who the hell wants that? So, yeah, I've killed teammates by lobbing the grenade, which sails through the air way farther than I intended. Then I get punished (player you killed gets to choose) on the respawn an extra 10 seconds because my stupid teammate wants to harm his team. I never choose the punish option. Why would I? Mistakes happen.

Will try again, because I'm a masochist, but largely I guess I want to like it.

It makes a big difference, if one of your teammates is creating spawn points on the map, near the action. Without that, it's crazy walking from the HQ each time! First game I played was like that, and second game had someone being smart about it, and creating those spawn points.

I'm used to Battlefield 4, which is like hyper action compared to this "walk a long ways to frontline and get killed simulator".

Will watch some tutorial videos.

I guess I should wear my headset, as been relying on controller, and it's hard to hear the guy giving orders.

Matches are really long! Don't always have time for such long matches.

What's with the tiny tiny tiny lettering. I have to sit close to my TV to read the screen, and map is confusing. What is what?, and then you have to zoom, and scroll around, and try and figure things out.

Would be nice, if you could run a bit faster. Running is like walking a bit faster, and not running. I guess you're weighed down by your pack/gun, preventing that.

Game looks very good, so at least it has that.

Looks like game will struggle to find fans in the age of short attention spans driven by our internet media addictions (slowly making us all retarded).
PC gamers have a big advantage. Windows early access was 2019, and the PC version full release was in July 2021.

This is the type of game that will have more of a hardcore niche community to it instead of massive waves of noobs of all skills like COD where noobs can blend in with tons of other noob lobbies.

So if PS and XBox gamers are crossplaying with PC gamers, they'll get destroyed by experienced PC gamers.

Crossplay is only between PS and Xbox. PC isn't included in the pool.

1) No hit/kill feedback!!! Did the guy duck, or did you kill him? I have to go into scores, than press L3 on the controller, to see if I got a kill.
If you kill a guy, the game doesn't tell you any way on screen you got a kill?

You need to visually confirm a kill.

As in, go up to their front line and look at the body. Doing so, is certain suicide, and even if you got to that point safely, how do you determine it's your kill or someone else's?

Unbelievable that the game has no feedback mechanism for a kill.

The incredible stupid score board does not even show kills. You have to look at your personal score by hitting L3 while looking at the scoreboard, which brings up another screen.

So because I'm shooting at people, I wonder if I killed them, so I'm constantly going into my personal score to see if the number of kills has gone up.
It would make sense in a way if they're trying to make it super realistic that someone has to confirm the kill, but doesn't make if it does show up on the scoreboard.

Weird gameplay mechanic.

BIGGEST COMPLAINTS I HAVE ABOUT THIS GAME
1)
No hit/kill feedback!!! Did the guy duck, or did you kill him? I have to go into scores, than press L3 on the controller, to see if I got a kill.
2) No indication of who killed me, or how. I'm just dead. They need to show you, who killed you, as in show a silhouette like in Battlefield, or some kind of notification like User so and so killed you, with this weapon.

Because of those two complaints, I'm not going to spend much time with this game, until they improve it.

It would make sense in a way if they're trying to make it super realistic that someone has to confirm the kill, but doesn't make if it does show up on the scoreboard.

They won't change that. It's a more realistic shooter and the uncertainty of whether you actually shot and killed someone is part of it. The kill cam is also a big no-no since that gives people's positions away. Its up to your squad who you should be with to figure out what direction the shots were coming from (and what type of threat you are dealing with) and communicate that. It's also part of learning the maps to figure out where people typically pick people off from. The structure of the game means you have to communicate, not check a scoreboard or rely on a kill cam.

The population is very healthy on PC, they don't care about attracting people who want a more casual shooter experience (there are other games that fill that gap), the game is the game.

Thats the whole point of a more tactical shooter. Communication over everything. Nothing about this is catered towards your K/d ratio. This isnt call of duty. You have to approach this more like a game of real life paintball or airsoft. Its for immersion and teamwork. Just make sure the target isnt moving and try to communicate with teammates and ping where the target may be. There is an audio cue if you get a headshot tho...you can hear the metal helmet make a ping sound.

I finally got around to trying this on the PS5 thanks to being free on PS+ and wow what a change of pace after playing BF and COD beta.

Seeing a guy run across a field and just drop from a single shot from my M1 is so satifying

I love that it doesnt have a kill feed if I shoot at people in town or in the woods and I dont see them drop I dont want a mechanic telling me this person is dead or not I like not knowing.

I love playing slow and tactical and even just starting its not hard to really rack up some kills because too many people want to play this like COD and it will cost you.

I gave it a few hours, but this game isn't for me. Even with friends, the slow pace and large maps make it extremely boring and annoying having to trek across a large area again.

Also the beach map is totally fucked balance wise.

If you're in a squad that is communicating there is no reason you should have to trek back across large areas more than once with them. It's simple:
  • Support guy drops supplies just outside enemy lines
  • Officer uses those supplies to build a garrison or outpost (only your squad can respawn at the outpost so the garrison is always the better option)
Just make sure you don't place it somewhere that the enemy can have line of sight on it from far away.

If you kill a guy, the game doesn't tell you any way on screen you got a kill?
You’ll only know if you either hit them in the head (hear a helmet ping) or see the other player die. That’s exactly how it should be, it will make you think before pressing forward. If working as a squad (which is what you should be doing), you can call out to your team and see if they saw the enemy go down. It’s what makes the game exciting to play.

Yeah, you need a squad that knows what they are doing. The problem is that every player wants their own squad but doesn’t want to openly communicate. This means that you don’t get the benefit of outposts or garrisons and end up spending 90% of the game running a marathon.

Tip for anyone new - join an existing squad and listen to your squad leader. I guarantee you will have more fun that way.

Also, if you really want to learn, talk to your team and ask them how to do things, the community is friendly. I’m often in games as a squad lead looking for people who talk and happy to walk through some of the mechanics.

Lastly, this isn’t CoD or Battlefield so temper your expectations. Think more ARMA or Operation Flashpoint.

Holy shit you're a fucking casual and it's like you're completely oblivious to what type of game this is and what the developer aims to achieve.
