Silly how much of a fresh air fighting the Automatons is.
Been fighting Terminids about 90% of the time so far.

Also, that railgun. Loving it.
Decided to specialize in taking out heavy opponents.
Railgun + Railgun Orbital strike + Laser Orbital strike.
Specced for recon as well.

Have to say the gameplay is much deeper than I expected. It offers options for a wide variety of playstyles.
Yeah, the gameplay is very different when you're fighting automatons vs. terminids.

But I absolutely suck against automatons. I don't know what the right weapons are for them. Any tips?

It’s manageable but don’t get too upset when someone drops a 500 kg bomb out of desperation when two bile titans come in at extraction and everyone dies.

Reached level 15 earlier today, finally could unlock the Orbital Laser which is god-tier, will decimate an entire horde (including heavies) and it can raze enemy structures to the ground, only downside is long recharge. Also unlocked the Impact Grenades, super effective vs shielded enemies, striders, groups, whatever. Same dmg as starting grenades but detonating on contact makes a *huge* difference. Breaker shotgun continues to be my favourite weapon, unlocked the Scythe laser rifle and it's absolute garbage lol.

Out of interest, what difficulty are people setting on for ‘fun, easy going session’?

I find the lower ones are trivial but the game soon ends up kicking your ass. And it seems to depend more on mission type rather than difficulty level.

With 2+ people medium is pretty chill. Pretty big ramp up to challenging from there in my experience.

Personally, I strictly use the energy weapon from the Warbond. Amazing weapon against both Terminids and Automatons, once you get the hang of it.
The marksman rifle is good as well.

I also tried that rifle from the Warbond with medium armor penetration, but not sure if I like it.

For the bigger enemies you'll probably need support weapons.
Railgun and anti-material rifle are great, imo. But I guess there are more, like the recoilless rifle.

I think this dude in reddit is right, the damage on the weapons is kinda funky (he is initially talking about how stronger the breaker shotgun is and the absurd range without damage getting worse)

In the real world, even the smallest handgun bullets travel about 5x farther than shotgun pellets. Since games generally don't want to use distance when calculating damage values they use pellet spread since it's easier to approximate a similar logical outcome. Instead of getting hit with pellets going half the speed, they just hit with half the pellets.

On top of this, it also has Light Armor Penetration, which makes absolutely no fucking sense since it's a shotgun.

The Breaker is just bullshit. There is absolutely no reason it should be doing ~3x the damage per shot of the Marksman Rifle, ~4.5x the SMG, and 6x the damage of the AR.

Side note: why the hell does an SMG do more damage than an Assault Rifle?! The side arm Machine Pistol does more damage than the AR, ffs.

Am I only loving the first premium AR with explosives because the feedback when you shoot it is so nice? Or is that gun legit? Feels pretty solid...

I definitely need to try this Breaker shotgun...

You need to consider other things like mag size or RPM. For example smg hits harder, but it has a slower rate of fire

Even considering that, the breaker is by far the best weapon in the game, when you unlock that, all the other weapons feel weak.

Explosive rounds do 10x more damage to weakpoint but no splash damage, too bad you hit non-weak points 90% of the time because you don't always have the luxury to go to the side or back of the enemies and the damage per hit is pitiful compared to the breaker, same for the flame rounds.
And this thing shreds most of the robots, even stuff with medium armour that in theory should not be damaged that much.

It doesn't even feel like a classic videogame shotgun, i can snipe motherfuckers from afar with this thing.

About the smg vs ar, when i unlocked the smg i had no reason to use the ar anymore, it has slower rate of fire but the total dps is still noticeably higher, i think it has also bigger mag capacity and you can shoot behing you while running, just that make it superior to the ar.

Breaker and the first smg are basically the best 2 weapons in the game with the breaker being in a category on itself.

Just unlocked that weapon and felt like absolute shit, useless against armours, small mag and low damage per hit.

Every weapon feel nice to shot in this game, i'm just talking about effectivness.

When you are gonna try the breaker, you are not gonna use anything else, and this comes from a dude who never use shotgun in multyplayer games, but this thing feels like a machine sniper shotgun.

Yeah it does good damage but you can only use it 3 times per mission. I can deal with the long cooldown but the limited uses for an orbital strategem just kills it for me.

I was looking forward to that weapon. Got 80 medals, was about to buy it and thought "maybe I should see what people say about it first", and pretty much everyone said it was garbage. Glad I did my research lol

I actually think it's good that they set a 3x use limit on the Orbital Laser, otherwise it would be OP.
Makes you think about when to use it, instead of just waiting for the timer to cool down.

But that's why you gotta make sure to check what strategems your teammates pick. Gotta have some AoE alternatives in the team, that aren't too restricted.

How is this game with randoms? I need a new game and this looks so fun but I don’t really have anyone to play with.

It also kind of reminds me of Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, aside from the abilities and small maps, which is one of my favorites of all time, am I right in thinking that it’s kind of similar, or not?

I've had some very good games with random players.

We're also just adding each other on GAF and playing together. So it is not as random, and we can strategize beforehand / while on the ship. :)

I mostly play duos so we don't have the luxury of picking so many alternatives. Gotta pick strategems that are reliable (in other words, no barrages that miss 99% of their shots) and frequent, especially on Suicide Mission and harder difficulties where breaches can really get out of hand quick.

I mean, i'm probably gonna unlock every weapons just to spend enough medals to get to the next page of a warbound but it feels way less rewarding to not have any carrot at the end of the stick when you progress, they really need an overhaul of all the weapons stats to make progression exciting and to give more choice for specific styles, right now the breaker cover all the ranges and it's by far the most damaging gun in the game.

Yeah, makes sense.
I can see how the limit would be an issue for duos.

Hard for me and my group usually.

The whole idea of the community "protecting" and "liberating" the galaxy is pretty genius.

We now need to have enough players on both sides of the galaxy, otherwise one of the enemy factions can attack earth.

Wonder how it'll play out if we have 4 enemy factions to worry about.
We know more enemy factions will be coming.

New weapons and stratagems

6+ player raid type things??

Different kinds of invasions, new missions, etc.

They can do SO much with the concept. Most exciting GaaS project that has come out in awhile.

I want to see a three way fight in a sector. Maybe the bots and a new faction fighting and we are sent in to give democracy to both at the same time.

Crossprogression is coming later right? Kinda shame it didnt launch with it especially since you need a PS account on PC too

I like how you get the news broadcasts in your ship while you're deployed. I don't know if it's like that being in the military, but it does give you a sense of being deployed and moving on to the next mission.
It's not like you're chilling in your house on Super Earth after each mission.

So for those who've played a fair amount, what is the content like? How are the missions, what types? How is the progression?

The whole galactic war thing and the way it works and their "propaganda" messages on twitter and ingame its just so good. One of the best gaas execution i've seen with enormous potential in the future

The similarities are obvious. The one thing HD2 doesn't have that ME3 did is style, imo. The consistent art style of ME3 was a big part of why I played so much of it (about 750 hours, iirc?). HD2 is funny, but the visual style and music is pretty 'army dudes in space.'

Mowing down a horde of giant bugs stampeding at me while my character screams "YOU'LL NEVER DESTROY OUR WAY OF LIFE"... man that did something for me lmao.

Also cool little tidbit a lot of you probably already noticed but I just found it...

When you're on the bridge of your destroyer, the windows up front are a little bit hazy to see out of if you're just walking around, however you can tell there are other ships out there orbiting. But if you walk up to the very most forward platform, all the windows clear up and become like crystal clear and you can see everything... it just looks very cool. And another interesting tidbit... when youre orbiting a bug planet... the view from your ship is just the fleet bombing the fuck out of the planet. Im guessing because bugs dont have any space worthy defense capabilties.

But if youre orbiting an Automaton planet... they are shooting lasers back and occasionaly destroy some of the orbiting destroyers. Its pretty sick to just stand there for a second, its a cool view.

I literally tipped a planet to complete earlier. Mission finished and the counter went blue. 😅 I certainly did my part. Your welcome...

Are you sure? Meridia & Turing is not there before.
Yeah it works by sector, all the players liberated Hooth and Angel's something which gave access to the next sector with new planets. The game has a mmo component, you participate a little bit on every mission you do. You can see the percentage evolves live and you see how much you contributed each time

Had some dodgy matchmaking since the robots stepped up/update, kept getting matched with just 1 player and even on trivial escorting the badly-pathed numpties who end up running in circles or climbing the most dumb rock piles is a pain for just 2 players. Also had a few crashes and dumped straight back to ship twice. Oh and also got forced behind the entry door into the area where the pods whizz by when 3 of us spawned in, couldn't get into the main ship just stuck behind the door in the little room (could see through gaps in the floor the the surface below, lol). Had to leave that game and there were 4 of us aboard. Apart from all that, had a lot of fun heh.
