So, along with the new MBP, there is supposed to be another new Macbook too, along the lines of the Air? Maybe it's just a bigger version of the regular Macbook.

There's been some conflicting rumors, but every rumor seems to agree that there will be SOME non-Pro MacBook announced as well that's either a 13" "MacBook", a lightly-updated 13" Air with USB-C ports, or both.

I think I may be one of the few who is excited for USB C because it's reversible, can be charged from either side of the laptop, and can be charged with cheaper, third party batteries and chargers. The faster we can get rid of USB A and force OEMs to better support type C, the better. Pump it in my veins.

I'm finally gonna replace my 2011 MacBook Pro. It runs great overall but it struggles a bit with the latest Final Cut so I finally have a real reason to replace it.

Will be watching with a keen eye to the announcements of today. My 2011 Macbook Pro is still pulling it's weight pretty well. But with larger file sizes of today, 4K and such, it's having a harder time meeting my needs for editing. The apparent loss of the SD card slot is a bit annoying though. Also the all USB-C is maybe a bit annoying since I work with a lot of external hard drives. I dunno how the dongling from regular USB to USB-C will work.

I'm convinced the Air line is done.
My prediction is we will see three distinct Macbook Pro models.

Maybe something along the lines of
- 13in. base model, no dgpu
- 14in. mid tier model, w/ or w/o dgpu
- 15in. top end model dgpu

I'll be laying to rest my 2010 which is suffering from dGPU crashes almost every day. Quite frustrating though a Samsung SSD I installed makes restarting quick.

I can not wait for this. Mid-2010 to late-2016 should be a nice jump for me.

This sucks, I know I'm really going to want one a MBP but I really shouldn't be getting one. I wonder how much I could get for my Mid 2013 Air?

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
well, looks like this is your first time with MacBook Pro?

Its good to dream though.

Absolutely not. While my family had PPC Mac computers growing up, I personally hopped on the Apple bandwagon the moment they went to Intel. Since then, I've had:

13" CoreDuo MacBook (first one)
17" MBP
15" Unibody MBP
13" Retina MBP first-gen
15" rMBP 1st refresh (current daily driver)

The only thing that I've suggested that's wishful thinking is the 1TB SSD. I got 16GB RAM more than three years ago when I bought my rMBP; it's not insane to want 32GB on the top-end, $2600 model this year, considering that's what most other ultra-lux laptops are shipping with nowadays.

Skylake is a given, and a compromise (everyone would PREFER Kaby Lake that's probably four months away)

I have a 750M now; the heavily rumored 480M is supposedly about 965M in performance

... now don't get me wrong, I do agree with you: I'm sure apple will disappoint and I wouldn't be SURPRISED if we just got 16gb. Honestly, yes, it's kind of expected. But I'm only saying I'm "definitely in" if they surprise me by meeting my pretty understandable desires.

I'm in the market for a new laptop, not sure yet if I'll buy the new Macbook. Convince me Apple! Or should I just buy Surface Book?

If it happens, I will be happy to take the morning off work (Japan time, ~6 hours later) to walk into an Apple Store and pick up a MBP. I've been waiting so long for this update.

Buying the new MBP 13"

Any chance of "and it's available now" or would retailers have leaked it already?

How do I order one? Apple site? Amazon? Best Buy?

What's the turn around on announcement to release typically?

This is my first Apple computer.

Did you know Halo invented the FPS?

Your best bet is the Apple Store app. It will most likely be available for preorder, which is Apple's usual way of handling major updates. Minor updates are usually available immediately.

Part of me is hoping I can waltz into an Apple Store today and grab one, but I think I might need some larger upgrades to what they'll have in store so I might be shit out of luck. For one I can't do anything less than a terabyte of hard drive space, so I'll need that upgrade.

Really hoping the MBP will be good, it's been so long and held out for an upgrade. I hope it's more than "look we added a magical touch strip" because oh man that would be a stinker

But what do you think is "good"? I mean the rumor mill has all but confirmed

- Touch Strip
- Slightly slimmer
- USB-C
- Obviously, non-ancient CPU/GPU

Not expecting a touch panel, pencil compatibility, reversible display or anything that different. It's going to be a sleeker, up to date MBP, The OLED touch strip is the single "exotic" feature.

Are new mac mini expected?

Unlikely I think, no rumors abound, but I'd love to see a Mini with the rumored Macbook Pro specs.
I'd also like to see a Magic Keyboard 2 with the OLED strip and Magic Trackpad 3 with iPhone7 level 3D/Force Touch.
All in Space Grey and I'm a buyer.

I think the current MBP is thin enough, I just wish they focused on component upgrades and minuscule design updates. I use mine a lot out and about and it's comfortable, but when I take my MBAir with me I find it uncomfortable to work on because of how thin it is.

USB-C upgrade is cool but will this mean another dongle for 2.0/3.0?

I'm more than happy that we're moving towards USB -C being standard across everything.. but this makes things more annoying that they went all out on lightning for the iPhone.

He gonna cry in the car
I am so hyped for this. Gonna be live streaming the whole thing on my phone while at work. I am gonna need a run-down on USB C peripherals/adapters/converters/dongles cause this MBP will be the first thing I have with USB C.

I have a feeling the new Pro's aint gonna be cheap. Like not £999 as they currently enter at now.

Anyone got a VLC link at the ready?

Looking forward to not being able to afford this ;_; I might just bite the bullet and invest, my 2010 is on its last legs.

If the peripheral has a detachable USB cord can't you just change that plug instead of using a dongle or is that now how this works?

I am also onboard for USB C. Fuck the old shit. I want that new USB shit. It makes sense to drop it.

I've made peace with the fact that the MBP I want will be around £2000.

Thanks Brexit.

Yup. Think I will go with £1149-1199 entry point on these bad boys.
Hopefully I am wrong as someone who will be replacing a 2013 MacBook Air in the next few years.

I'm also starting to think about replacing my 2012 MacBook Air. Probably next year...

But I'm more inclined toward the MacBook than the Pro.

I have a Mid-2010 with dGPU issues, too. I use gfxCardStatus (actually a fork of it) to lock it down to only use the Intel GPU. Haven't had a crash since doing this.

I've been holding out for a while and waiting for this jump.

I'd say 32GB RAM maximum and 2TB SSDs for those with money to burn are solid possibilities. Not sure if the lower-watt Skylake chips the 13in MBP would use support higher than 16GB though; I know desktop Skylake is 32/64GB but I couldn't find easy info on the mobile processors.

Really wish they could have gotten the newer Intel chips into these, but it sounds like they're just gonna roll w/ Skylake CPUs.
