help help my network has gone screwy! here's the situation:

a couple days ago, my internet went out. normally it goes from my dsl modem to my router, which then goes back to the desktop, and my laptop connects wirelessly. now, i can only get it working on one or the other.

if i connect the dsl modem directly to the desktop i can connect to the internet by making a new connection. but in that case, my desktop's LAN connection will not connect, and will give me an error about limited or no connectivity. i also can't renew my ip in that case.

if i connect the dsl modem the old way, my LAN connection works fine again, but this time my dsl connection won't work. so i can connect on my laptop, but not on the desktop in that case.

anybody know what i should do?

Have you power cycled your modem lately?

yeah tried that to no avail

I would check to see if you hae any additional firewalls installed running in the background.
What brand router are you using?

it's a linksys

well there's a firewall running on the desktop, but even when i shut it off it did the same thing. plus everything had been running fine up until a few days ago even with the firewalls on.
