HELP OR I WILL CRY: Getting Online with used PS2 Slim

Fellow Gaming Age denizens, I need your help! A few months ago I purchased a used PS2 slim from a reputable sales clerk, and for the past few months I have been enjoying the delicious gaming library. But my tastes are becomming insatiable, and I need to delve into the tasty desert that is online console gaming!

Alas, I am currently unable to bite into a sweet tart. I was denied access to Al Gore's internet when trying to connect to a network game in the superb roast Timesplitters: Future Perfect.

Why am I being mistreated by my otherwise serving and faithful PS2? I know a disc came with the attachable broadband adapters, but do I need one when the adapter is built into the system? Does a PS2 slim come with such a disc? If so, can I contact SONY and have a new disc sent to me, since the disc was not included when I purchased the used system? Or perhaps there is a different cause of my pain?

Help me GAF. Your wisdom has yet to lead me astray.

The Slim PS2 comes with a disc. I think some games will actually let you setup a connection settings file, like the disc would do. But if you don't have any that do, you'll probably have to call Sony or borrow a disc from someone.

Getting the PS2 online is so much more of a hassle than it should be. Good luck.

Hell, I don't remember anymore - or I would help you. I think you have to use the disc mentioned and perform some setup that gets saved to a memory card.

Every PS2 online game I've ever played allows you to make a new online profile. I don't think I've even unsealed or used the disc that came with the system.

It took like 10 seconds to make a profile for me. If you have to input your IP and other info maybe it'll take a minute or 2.

kpop100 is correct, almost any Online PS2 game will allow you to make a new online settings for your PS2 to get online if you don't have your online setup disc.

It's part of their TCR compliance to allow for that. Attempting to go online with a game should prompt you that there is no online profile, which should prompt you into Sony's standard online profile creation tool. Every online PS2 game I've played does this, save for FFXI, which routes you through Play Online.

What kind of error are you getting with Timesplitters? That might help us help you.

You want to taste the online gaming goodness and you chose a PS2??? Get an Xbox with LIVE and you'll really see what online gaming on console is all about. I love my PS2 but for online it pales to Xbox bigtime. Just my .02

Success! My copy of Tribes: Aerial Assault came through and created the network settings. Now I'm getting my ass handed to me in Timesplitters: Future Perfect! FUCK YEAH!

Thanks all :)

Probably due to the fact that you don't actually play it online. That's just stupid to let it through QA in that state: 'We'll let you download stuff online, but won't give you an easy way to set up you network adapter to GET the content'.

Lame. Sorry :|
