Herman Miller Embody chair. Experiences?

I've been reading lots of very promising stuff about Herman Millers Embody chair. It seems like the ultimate chair for someone like me, who spend lots of time sitting in front of my PC when gaming and making music.

Anyone here have this chair?
Would love to hear your experience with it, especially after using it for a while.

I have a Herman Miller Sayl and am not in love with the quality. The Embody is said to be noisy in operation with lots of plastic involved.

The only HM chair I was really impressed by is their Aeron line.

I've got a rando Herman from FB marketplace. It's an above average chair for sure but can't compare to the random chair you sit on for a work meeting. We really need to figure out what brand those are. It's like they're not available to the public or something. One day...

I have the Logitech embody chair with the atlas headrest and it's the best chair ive ever had (it bloody well better be)

I got mine on black Friday a couple of years ago and I sit in it for hours on end. Incredible comfort!
Got a embody with an atlas headrest it’s the perfect chair for me

I always knew you were one of the good ones!

I've had chronic back issues for years and decided to splurge on the Embody a few years ago. Even though it was so expensive, it's become one of my best purchasing decisions. It's worked wonder for my back.

The price is high but you need to take in count the long guarantee. They fix pretty much anything if it happens in 12 years time.

Bought an Embody about 18 months ago, zero regrets. It's not for everyone though, the backrest especially. It's a pretty "hard" chair, not something you can snuggle up in (if that's your thing).

It's a wild investment but these things are built to last. If you sit behind a desk for the better part of your day, you shouldn't cheap out on chairs.

I’m sure it’s good and i’m also sure i can get something way cheaper that is close to the quality. Don’t let the marketing get you

OP go to a stockist and try one out.

I've got a Steelcase Think, another superb workstation chair.

If you like to cross legs while sitting the Aeron might not be best for you. Though it is possible, if you get the wide Aeron model and depending on your body build.
The curved edged on the sides of the seat could "hurt" your feet. I just tried and it's not bad, but maybe something to be aware of.

The Embody's is more flat so might be more comfortable for cross legged sitters. And as mentioned, because of it's build, it can be a bit plasticky/noisy, though if you use headphones that might not be a huge issue, more for people next to you if you move a lot.

Half the people here probably have Secret Labs with flames on the side to increase FPS

Honestly, if you end up buying a chair pls make some sort of review post. I have a crappy 200$ chair with banded leather, bane of my existence and yet I use it form more than 8 hours a day.

I’ve had a Herman Miller Sayl since 2018 and can’t imagine having anything else. I can sit for an entire day and never be uncomfortable. Any back issues I had before have been non-existent since. It hasn't even aged after all of this time, and I use it a lot. Can't recommend it enough.

Most people who have something negative to say about these chairs haven't owned one.

I've had an embody for a decade or so now and I consider it one of it not the best purchase I've ever made. I have lost back problems and when I sit in that chair they don't exist when I'm sitting. I'll sit in it all day sometimes. I let a friend use it for a couple of days when they needed a place to stay shortly while in town and he feel in love with it and bought one not long after getting back home.

It's expensive but it is worth it. Not only will you get the comfort but it will make sure you aren't screwing your back up even if you don't have back problems.

Between this chair and my nectar mattress my pain level with my back isn't an issue the vast majority of the time

I've got an Aeron with an Atlas headrest, best thing I could have bought. Don't think the Embody has the same build quality tho.

I got a Steelcase Gesture in 2016 and it still looks like new. It’s crazy. Almost five years of WFH at this point.

But yea people think these chairs are overpriced so they buy shitty $200 back destroyers every 3 years instead. In reality this is the most essential purchase you can make.

Aeron changed my life. Bought a refurb for like $500 on eBay ~5 years ago and it's still identical to the day I bought it. Can sit in it for 18 hours without noticing.

They are not for everyone like all ergo chairs. It’s best to try one before you buy one especially at the cost of a HM. I fucking hate the embody for example, some of the other models are better but aren’t worth the money so get a good quality second hand one from an office clearance.

I much prefer Stealcase Gesture or the Humanscale Freedom.

It’s never a bad idea to spend your money where you spend your time.

If you drive a lot, invest in vehicle amenities
If you sit at a desk a lot, invest in chairs and desks
If you exercise a lot invest in good shoes and gear.
If you watch lots of movies/tv invest in a nice TV
Etc

I think someone coined the idea years ago by “comfort principle” if I’m remembering the term correctly, but I never forgot that core idea.
Some things we all do, like sleep, so investing in a good bed is fundamental as good sleep will effect every other aspect of your life.
