So you get about 10 gold a victory and heroes cost 5,000 gold? Holy moly!

you get 30 for quick match win
20 for quick match loss.
20 for coop win.

Any hero reaching lvl 5 gives you 500.
Daily quests. 200 to 800 gold.
Certain levels give you 2000 gold, check your progression.
Maxing a character also gives gold but that take quite a bit. Get 500s for lvl 5 first. You get a free stimpak too which nets you 150 percent more gold from matches and double xp.

Quite a few 2000 gold heroes btw. They cost 2000, 4000, 7000 and 10k.

Both of them can probably ride the Hearthstone Card mount, if the flying carpet is anything to go by. Which will look hilarious and make everything right.

Oh, sorry! Damn, wish I was there from the start.

You're playing against AI! Play against real people and you get 50 gold for a loss~

When you level a hero to 5 you get 500 gold. Level the free heroes every week to 5, and you can amass a decent amount.
Reaching certain account levels gives you 2000 gold.
Daily quests give you gold as well; there's one quest that has an 800 gold reward.

Thanks I havent played the game yet. I was just assuming based on the screenshots posted above. I just want to buy Nova first.

Raynor might be a good hero to train yourself dor Nova (and he is a good hero for beginners) because his only offensive skill is to aim at people just like Nova. So my advice is to get good with heores that have to aim (no AoE spells) because Nova 2 skills are mainly focused on that (solo target). Her ultis are more brain less, though.

You miss on Nova, you become pretty useless and free kill.
Also, you need to save up 10 000 gold to buy her (it's not hard if you follow the advices that people gave ya)

Thanks for the tips. Im not new to mobas though, but does that matter in this game?

I think the next hero I'm going to really work on playing well is Falstad. I really disliked him in his initial incarnation, and kind of ignored him when he got his redesign/update months back. But after playing around with him again, he's fantastic.

I had a great moment last night where I just melted a Nova using him. Used his fast-travel ability to land right beside her, caught her just before she would have gone into stealth and just melted her instantly. Felt good.

Edit : you might have some bad habits from other Mobas like soloing too much while your goal is to support your teamates.
Yes, even with Nova, you don't go solo too much unless you're over leveled.
The goal of this game is to take the objectives as a team, otherwise enemy team will roll over ya because they will be more united.

The benefits of playing at a PC Bang is REAL!

The teambuilder doesn't work for me. The search box doesn't do anything no matter what I type in it?
You don't have to search for your friends, they should be showing below the search field o_o

So does that team builder app thing hit up your friends with spam messages? I want that mount but I am not going to harass FB friends for it.

It doesn't send messages out.

Nothing is showing there...

Did you make a fake account specifically to get the mount? You'll need to actually add friends to the account to be able to do it. Look a page or two back for a post of mine, and quote it for a link to my fake account. Add it as a friend and I'll accept it.

Is blizzard doing anything for the official launch in terms of: skins or mounts? I know there is bonus XP but anything else?

So as a completely new player to this genre, at what point do I stop feeling like a looser? sigh

Stick with Co-operative to start with, try out couple heroes from each class to get a feel for the variety. Although Co-op isn't really challenging at all, it means you can relax in an environment where no one is going to get mad at you for being new.

Move onto quick match when you feel confident in playing the game. I was pretty new to the genre also (had played the original DOTA about 10 years ago) but 300 games later sitting around 60% win rate across both QM and Hero League and always feel confident in myself when i go into a game.

It's my real account and it's goddamn empty. Tried the fcebook app as well and it's empty too. Fuck.

You just got to find a hero or two that suits your play style... I was suck until I discovered tyrande and seargent hammer and now I win my fair sure of QM and I'm hopelessly addicted.

When "Zeratul A.I" is better than half your team, you know you're up for one helluva ride.

Could someone explain a MOBA noob, wich are the main "objectives" of each class (specialist, assassin, tank and support)?

I have an idea giving what I know by MMORPGs, but sometimes I'm not sure if I should be contributing more to killiing heroes, collecting XP, destroying the siege, and so on...

Thanks for the replies, I've only been playing for like a week or so. I have Reynor at lvl 7 and a few others at 4-5, hero lvl 21, but I still feel like a complete noob, maybe I'm just destined to be bad at this...still having fun though.

Ah got it to work, I just hadn't given all the necessary rights to the app.

There's nothing new yet in the game, no Johanna? Disappointeeeed...

Assassin: Hero Killer
Warrior (Tank): Initiate fights, stun/CC (crowd control) enemy heroes so your team can kill them
Support: Heal/shields
Specialists: vary by hero. Abathur can buff the team/structures, Sylvanas is a great pusher

I generally follow these guidelines when playing.

Start of the game: kill mobs in lane to gain XP so the team can quickly level up. Harrass enemy heroes so they leave the lane and prevent them from getting XP. Kill them if you can, but don't go out of your way to do so. Pushing a lane and taking out a tower or two is more XP for the team. Staying in lane and getting XP and not overextending and getting killed is the way to go. When objectives come up, group up with your team and tackle them together.

Once your team hit level 10, stick together to push and kill enemy heroes. Go for the objectives together when they come up again. Grab the merc camps when pushing.

I'm still pretty new to HOTS (only been playing a couple of weeks), so I'm sure other GAFfers have much better advice.

Should I use the Beta installer or wait for an official one to pop up? Don't have it installed prior.

Nope, the 2nd. Which fits with Blizzards aim to launch a new hero every 3 weeks now.

But to be frank, the entire launch has been botched. The "nexuscalling" event was trite rubbish - I honestly have no idea what they thought they were doing. Invite a huge number of fans, and then have the main designers only comments on stage be "There's a map called Blackhearts Bay, you collect coins and turn them in and he destroys your opponent"?

They had 20 PCs set-up, with Khaldor and other casters there, and yet no exhibition matches?

They had numerous designers and Blizzard people there, and not a single Q&A session, or panel?

No previews of any upcoming content.

No info or roadmap about the future - instead we're relying on badly translated chinese interviews, and twitter feeds.

This game is so so much easier to get into than DOTA. In DOTA you play 100 games and you are still utter shit. This game I am #1 on my team first game ever. It does make it great for new players but I wonder if this is going to cause issues with holding people's interest.

Who knows; one thing I do know is that I am digging the 18 minute matches and am not missing DOTA matches that require you to sit around for 30 mins when loss is 100% assured.

Is there a guideline for what level you should be at to go after which mercenary camps?

Depends on what you're playing as and what map you're on. For example, it's usually best to go after mercs immediately after you've finished collecting skulls in the grave golem level. While on the dragon knight level you may want to ignore them till you're level 10+ unless you're Gazlowe or some other specialist who can solo mercs early, in which case you want to do so to help push/distract the enemy from map objectives.
