This game is so so much easier to get into than DOTA. In DOTA you play 100 games and you are still utter shit. This game I am #1 on my team first game ever. It does make it great for new players but I wonder if this is going to cause issues with holding people's interest.

Who knows; one thing I do know is that I am digging the 18 minute matches and am not missing DOTA matches that require you to sit around for 30 mins when loss is 100% assured.

The game has a shocking level of depth that isn't apparent on first play. When I was rank 30 I thought I knew a lot more than I do now at a much higher rank.

The pros talk about it a lot on the podcasts, but heroes is much more a team game than Dota, for example. Mechanic skills will only get you so far, and team fights and map co-ordination is happening all the time in a HoTs match rather than 15 minutes in after a laning phase.

i hope it's possible in the future to make it so we can add people from the spreadsheet automatically to your b.net friendslist, now my lazy ass have to actually add a few peeps since it's such a long time since i added people :/

i know that feel. played a dota 2 match last week for 60 mins that we were assured we would lose were early, but the enemy team wouldn't end the game so it lasted forever :/

So as a completely new player to this genre, at what point do I stop feeling like a looser? sigh

With this game it's really a matter of finding the hero that fits your playstyle.

It also helps to "try" each hero so you know what they can and cannot do. Some heroes like Kael Thas have no mobility/escapes so you can really chase him down unlike someone like Sylvanas who can teleport away.

Uh, so does this game come out today? You could have fooled me. Someone should remind Blizzard they are supposed to officially launch this today. Maybe their google calendar reminder was for the wrong day.

The last 2 days were full of victories in QM. Today only defeats! =´(
I'm really enjoying to play as Arthas, Falstad and Valla though... I may end up buying one of them (other then Valla that I won by playing D3).

Are all heroes available as AI opponents/teammates or is it like Dota and LoL where only a few characters can be selected as bots?

Also can you unlock heroes by playing single player games?

Region? Even open beta has been going on for a while

To unlock heroes you need to collect gold (or pay real money). Single player matches will only give you gold if you win, and not too many gold. However, you can still make daily quests in single player matches what will help to achieve that relatively fast.

US. All this hype, like 4 emails from Blizzard over the weekend, and today, crickets. Snippets from Twitter seem to be the only indication on Johanna today. Her official trailer video still refers to the game as a beta test, even though she should be part of the official launch. I don't know, it just seems strangely vague for a big game launch. Maybe the Asian markets are getting all of the love.

Depends on what you're playing as and what map you're on. For example, it's usually best to go after mercs immediately after you've finished collecting skulls in the grave golem level. While on the dragon knight level you may want to ignore them till you're level 10+ unless you're Gazlowe or some other specialist who can solo mercs early, in which case you want to do so to help push/distract the enemy from map objectives.
I get that there will be differences between heroes, builds, and even players. I'm just looking for a ballpark of when I could conservatively initiate verses giants or knights or whatever else there is.

Gotta admit surprised myself, figured since today usually being patch day for Blizzard things would already be on the go. Get on and want to check out the new deals and.......nothing, same old stuff as yesterday.

Kinda deflated my excitement.

Read the OT, still a couple questions before I download:
So if everyone levels at the same rate and there's no gold, is there a point to last hitting? Also it says you pick a hero then go into matchmaking, so is it matching accordingly to the hero type you picked or can there be 4 support heroes on one team?

I think the next hero I'm going to really work on playing well is Falstad. I really disliked him in his initial incarnation, and kind of ignored him when he got his redesign/update months back. But after playing around with him again, he's fantastic.

I had a great moment last night where I just melted a Nova using him. Used his fast-travel ability to land right beside her, caught her just before she would have gone into stealth and just melted her instantly. Felt good.

Falstad is one of my favorite heroes, I just love his boomerang attach and mobility. I feel like I am always contributing a super effort in every game with Falstad.

It reeeeeaaaally depends on the hero. For example, Nova has some trouble even with just giants at level 15, but Zagara can take those at 7. ETC has stuns and can take a lot of damage, especially if you picked superiority, but they take so long getting them with him it's not the best use of your time.

What heroes do you like to play?

Also it says you pick a hero then go into matchmaking, so is it matching accordingly to the hero type you picked or can there be 4 support heroes on one team?
The matchmaking system tries to get a decent balance of types going. I've seen 4 assassins but not of anything else, and that one is pretty rare. You can get kinda screwed in composition, though, but since open beta skill levels are ridiculous comp doesn't really matter.

There is a hero(Nazeebo) in the game that gets stronger for every kill on a minion if you have afflicted that minion with his poison passive, which is if you have basically attacked that minion with your autoattacks or abilities within 4 seconds. this has to be talented though

other than that, no not really. Even the talents(Seasoned Marksman) that make your auto attacks stronger doesn't make you have to get the minion kill, just have to be in range of the minion at the time of its death.

Depends too much on the hero and build and map, like he said, to reliably say. Then there's deeper strategy once you get coordinated and experienced where you'll grab camps at specific times to capture an advantage in a different lane while you fight over an objective.

In general, though, mercs are ignored in 90% or more of the bot games I've played in the past year.

No last hitting other than Nazeebo's talent. There are matchmaking rules for that. If there is no support on one team there won't be one on the other. Support will always get matched against one. No more than 4 assassins. No more than 3 warriors etc. You will get wild comps on occasion for sure.

I haven't played him yet (looking forward to tomorrow), but doesn't Azmodan have a talent that strengthens his Q ability if he gets last hits with it?

Iron Dire Wolf for reaching level 100 in WoW.

There is a reverse for WoW too - you get an ingame pet of the Grave Golem if you have a player level of 20 or higher in Heroes of the Storm.

Win 100 games of Hearthstone i believe.

There is another cross title mount from WoW too - if you have reached lv 100 on a character in Warlords of Draenor you get an Iron Horde Wolf or something.

So, I have all of these, yet not even a single reward in any of those games.

How/when to get them?

Yes; Azmodan's Taste for Blood talent makes his Q stronger. Raynor's Puttin' On a Clinic also gives a bonus when "recently damaged" enemies are killed, but no one takes it.

The game hasn't "launched" yet so we don't know really.

We assume whenever they activate Johanna they will be activating that other stuff.

It looks like they are just gonna turn her on at some point today since she's already in game.

Johnzee's tweet also backs that up so here's hoping.
Blizzard so good at launching games.

I don't like abilities that potentially distract you to getting kill shots over doing what's needed to win.

Wonder what's keeping them from just sending out the new stuff now. It's not like they've added anything big for the launch. Just one character. Might as well just released her at midnight or something. Would have caused a lot more hype if the new mounts and Johanna all released at midnight.

They're just launching the game at some random ass time, in the middle of the day.

I actually thought they might add something to the game for the launch, but it's basically just the same shit. A new map or a spectator mode for launch would've been huge.

Is there a guideline for what level you should be at to go after which mercenary camps?

Some Specialist builds can let you solo some merc camps early in the game. like level 6 early. (seige) level 10-11ish for bruisers. i guess Gaz can solo the boss from what i've read in the previous OT for HoTS.

They have their usual update time. The sale thread on the Blizzard forum says the new sale, and I would assume the new hero as well, will go up at 23:30 CEST.

Well rabid fanbase gonna rabid.

Other than Johnzee's tweet and that datamine, they've given no inclination she's coming out today. Previously we knew the day before if not a week before.

So people are getting tore up over it yet we never got an official okay.

Then there's the fact that most patches haven't went live til around 12:30-2:30 CST timeframe (10:30-12:30 PST/Blizzard time) so we are still a little early if they are just gonna flip a switch at a time they picked.

I honestly don't know what they are doing, but to say the launch sucks is a stretch. Game is up and playable without lag or game breaking bugs which is always the biggest problem for a Blizzard game. The Nexus Calling event and whether or not Johanna comes in only affects the experience those of us already playing, not so much Joe Moba who picks up the game today.

Tis a problem in the gaming community. :( It's cool to be a cynic and if you don't agree, Eat a cock'o'roach. - Gaming cynic who wants to be noticed, very badly. so bad. bad....

I agree alur, the launch is far from sucks.

What sucks is that I still don't have my Johanna and I'm so excited I can barely stand it!

Mechanical spider mount is legit though, I like it more than the golden tiger haha.

Is there not a big patch today? Just releasing Johanna?
Nobody knows, really, but it wouldn't surprise me. It seems "official launch" just means "now available in stores" and that's it. The #NexusCalling thing was just a sales pitch, with almost nothing new for people who are already playing.

The game was probably "released" at open beta! I just knew about it this week though. :(

But I'm glad it is just working fine! I hope Blizzard starts a nice marketing campaing now to increase the player base, and that they keep doing what they do, that is to give it full support constantly balancing it for the best.
