HEY 1UP. FIX YOUR SITE

Sho Nuff

Banned

I've been seeing this screen hundreds of times over the last couple months, and I'm sick of it.

I used to think it was just my PC and I suck, but then it started popping up on my work machine, on my friends' machines, I saw people complaining about it on gamefaqs, etc. Apparently this only occurs under IE, so like, there's only a few bilion people potentially affected by it. I find myself not bothering to click 1up links anymore knowing that it's going to fuck up.

To anyone who says "Use Firefox instead": Shut up.

I AGREE WITH SHO. It keeps giving me the same error everytime: "Error: Page failed to load all data" or something like that. It's terrible. I have to load Firefox or Opera whenever I want to view 1up now, and the site was already poorly designed and like the worst 56k-unfriendly site of all time

Quick question:

If you are going to use IE, why are you using IE and not one of the IE-based derivatives, like Maxthon or Avant Browser?

We have to use IE for a lot of web applications. Cant say we have had any security issues either, but then again we dont visit "underground" sites.

Web standards is a whole other argument. IE sucks, but it is usefull especially with activex.

As far as I can tell, it's related to which flash ad banner is running at the time. If I refresh and get the same one, I'll get the error again; if I refresh and get a new ad, often it'll work.

This is unlike, say, AdvancedMN, a site that I have yet to be able to access in about three months...

1UP's site is absolute rubbish, to the point where I don't visit it unless I find an article linked in a forum thread.

It's a shame too, considering the content is usually quite decent.

This happened to me for like a year, solid. Couldn't access it from home, but could from work.

Then suddenly it started working like 2 weeks ago.

I am using IE
I have the same problem as Sho
I always need to refresh the page

and it seems it is the time for me to use firefox :D

Much as I'd love to sit here and bitch about 1Up's layout, I can't think of a single gaming website that has a half decent layout. Going to game websites is like talking to someone that's always screaming. They're all relatively slow to load, cluttered, a mess to navigate, and feature intrusive ads and/or self-promotion....which is why I use RSS almost exclusively. RSS is your friend!

Why did you link to the picture as well as post it?

Actually less:

Code:
Browser Statistics Month by Month
2005 IE 6 IE 5 Ffox Moz NN 7 O 8 O 7
October 67.5% 6.0% 19.6% 2.6% 0.4% 1.2% 0.2%

W3Schools

Try again, lol i cant believe you would use that site to support your opinion.

Is there a way for this forum to generate an RSS feed of new topic titles? There are a lot of widgets in the konfabulator gallery that provide updates on new threads for specific forums (a lot of are sports web sites) but they're probably using different forum software.
