Hey GAF, How Do You Properly Cancel A PS Plus Subscription?

I tried to, but the minimum seemed to be 5 USD, even though I had 10.01 in my wallet already. I tried through the console.

I think, in my case, it is because of the inconvenience on asking about cloud saves on game boot-up. Then again, I don't know that much about it; is there way to disable it system-wide as to avoid this annoyance? I know it's just an extra screen, but when I boot up a game, and go do a quick errand, I want to be greeted by the game, not some menu that I forgot to cancel or allow.

Truthfully, I don't do many subscriptions, or trials to them. When I do, it's usually amazon prime trials, which I do cancel (and I mean cancel, as in chat with an amazon rep to cancel the remaining time too). So no, I am not that learned on the matter truthfully speaking.

Again, thank you for the input guys. I guess I'll either wait playing my PS3 2 weeks, or live with the annoyance. At the very least, I am glad to know that I did everything right and don't have to worry about being charged or my PSN account being banned or something like that.

Then just hit "Accept" and upload your saves. It won't pop up again and it won't matter because in two weeks it'll run out. Jeeze.

I really hate cancelling a service and still getting what I already paid for. these corporations do it just to try and get you hooked all over again.

I believe it only asks you for a cloud save if you're online (and once if you say no) so you can avoid it by not being online. Waiting it out for two weeks seems more reasonable though.

It asks you once the first time you play a game, then never again for that particular game.

Interesting feedback though, a prompt may annoy the hell out of some people enough to make them want to cancel a free trial subscription.

You have to cancel it on the website before it auto-renews.

Sony auto-renewed my subscription last year, and I was not happy about it. IMO auto-renew should NOT be on by default.

That's not what this thread is about. OP has already canceled auto-renewal, but now he's upset that he'll still have access to PS+ until his trial period runs out. He absolutely hates PS+, apparently, and wants that filth gone from his account RIGHT NOW. Alas, he cannot. He will have to live with it. Or just not touch his PS3 for two weeks, which he seems to be considering.

Fascinating, really.

Oh, you mean that horribly inconvenient screen that pops up the first time you play a game?

Ah, my bad.

P.S. You embellished quite a bit there.

Not exactly?
Your joke: Good things make Huelen10 angry. Getting free games is good. This means Huelen10 would be angry.

By "get free games" I thought you meant to keep, which would be good, which would make Huelen10 angry. But just being able to play for a couple days would probably only be enough to slightly annoy Huelen10.

I possibly overthought that...

Wow, that is some bullshit. There is no way, no reason, why they should lie about it! They could have easily said something like:

You will receive this trial for 14-days. Unless you disable auto-renew on your account prior to the 13th day of your free trial period, your trial will automatically convert to a 1-month PlayStation®Plus membership, and $9.99 will automatically be deducted from your Network Wallet according to the Sony Entertainment Network Terms of Service and User Agreement.

That would have been honest! Wow, this sucks for me. This is truly shocking for me, that cancel; doesn't mean cancel. So there's no cancellation even over the phone? I mean, if there is, I wouldn't mind calling.

Damn right it's a fucking outrage I tell ya. You should call up yosp and be like, "hey listen Jack when I say cancel my subscription, you cancel my subscription."

I am so confused on why this is a problem.

Me too...
When I canceled my cable subs, it was still good until the next payment cycle since I'd already paid for the service for that month.
Why would anyone complain about having a few more weeks of PS+?

I know it's against the rules to complain about threads but...this thread was worth the read lol. I had an audible trial renew itself for $15, and I never used it, and even I didn't get this mad. What the fuck haha.

I truly don't understand this reaction. All I wanted to know was if I was doing things right on my part (as I've previously stated), and what my options were, that's it. Thanks to a few posters, I was able to get the information I needed. I also learned about how consumer friendly/unfriendly some subscription services are and the options behind them. I am glad I got the info I needed, but I don't understand the ridicule. There's nothing funny about feeling misled by an offer due to incorrect-use of wording, and there's nothing wrong with expecting a cancellation to mean just that, yet now that I better understand the PSN policies I can deal with it. What I don't understand is some of the reactions in this thread, I consider it immature.

Honestly, to those that provided me with answers, thanks a lot; you have given me peace of mind that I will not be charged.

I came into this thread being like

"Why would this feller wanna cancel PS Plus? It's great to me"

What I got was something else entirely.

This is the brutal legend of threads.

Probably because after you knew you wouldn't be charged, you were still mad because you couldn't 'cancel' something that wasn't having any negative effect on you. I fail to see how this is bad when services like Netflix or Crunchyroll end your membership as soon as you 'cancel' it, even if you had paid to renew it two days ago. That is far, far more devious than this.

You are a very polite and respectful poster. You have thus far been very clear in explaining what your issue is, and curt in your replies - to those who have helped and even those who have mocked you. I commend you for bringing such a positive attitude to this board.

That being said, it should come as no surprise that people are on average reacting this way. It is by far the weirdest complaint I've ever read in my life. I don't usually find "jokes" on these threads funny, but I've laughed way more than I should have with this thread. This is total insanity and I love it. The thing is you really do have a point regarding the unclear language used. What's baffling is the suggestion that you may not have used your free trial had you known you'd have to bear it for a full two weeks.

On a more constructive note: have you tried using your PS4 online? If you don't want PS+ I'd assume you don't play online. I don't know this for sure but maybe you won't get prompts if the machine is offline?

Because everyone and theirs mom "should" know how subscription works, as well as canceling such subscription.
Auto-renewal is the norm, you can't even get a fricken Gold Gym membership without having a ACH or debit card ties to your membership.

But you getting angry over free days while already canceling the subs is just weird.
You should try and call up your internet provider sometime about canceling their service, then you will realize that your PS+ ordeal wasn't that bad.

This has been the best thread. I laughed so hard that I cried. Op , you have some validity but the cloud save is not a big deal. All you have to do is either say yes or no to ONNCE. That shouldn't be too difficult unless you REALLY HATE PROMPTS. If so don't get a PS4 or Xbox one lol.

So after getting my coupon, I decided to get half off a PSN card so I could buy Sonic The Fighters. I also wanted to get Marvel vs Capcom Origins, but the total went over 12 dollars. No biggie, until I remember that un like the eShop, you can't add what you need to pay your cart off; you need to add minimum. So I then noticed that there was a PS Plus sale which would make the total less than ! I would never pay for plus, but was wondering if there were codes online for free trials. Luckily, I found one on the bottom on this page. As per the fine print, it needs a credit card linked, but it will not be charged if you cancel prior to the 13th day.

Serious non-trolling question, how much do you think you save per hour you use scouring the internet/other sources for discounts, coupons and the like? Is it really worth it? :) This question is directed at anyone who does the same.

I've noticed this culture is quite prevalent in the states especially. In Norway no one bothers with this stuff basically, and I feel a lot of Europe is the same.

wtf did I just read?

You got a free PS Plus sub and you don't want to use it? o_O

why? What annoying prompts?

Is this real life?

You should teach them a lesson by downloading all the games that are free and not playing them. Then just delete them.

Can't believe they are giving you the remaining part of you free trial. Fucking Sony.

you're not getting charged for anything, still get the PS+ membership for the remainder of the trial period, still get the discount on the mvc origins

At OP, you can also press triangle on a game before hand and set Cloud saves to on or off. Still, this is a hilarious topic.

You can't. There's no going back.
Lol so true. I don't play online so that part of the service is worthless to me, but the "free" PS+ games you get every month and the fact that I would end up losing them all and have basically payed for nothing at all if I cancel the service pretty much put me in to lifetime subscription. :/ And you can't go in once a year to collect the free games of the year to be cheap either since you have to be there every single month to not miss them. It's like Netflix but instead of 7000+ movies from day 1 you start with 0 games from the start and 2 games added every month, over time it'll be an awesome collection but also very very expensive. Devilishly clever way to make money. :p

It's all a clever ruse. Sony, deliberately misleading people like that, scaring them into thinking they've done something wrong and taunting them with the assumed lie that the subscription won't auto-renew, all the way through bullying them by condescending save cloud storage prompts.

To think some people actually PAY for those shitty prompts!

You should take advantage of the cloud saves, you never know if your console will break or fuck up.

I think that you can cancel your plus, wait however long you'd like, re-subscribe and get the same games that you redeemed originally. You'll miss any new plus games in the meantime of course.

Someone should correct me if I'm wrong.

That's true, but there is one ongoing thread here about someone who did that but lost all their games. Better to just keep paying probably.

wow, so this is your first ever subscription service? :D

cancelling a subscription means that after the so far paid time runs out, you won't have the subscription active any longer.

You do realize nealry every paid subscription works like this and they give you a warning as you sign up.

Not their fault you couldn't be bothered to read the terms.

Xbox works exactly the same if you signed up by credit card.
