I too prefer over the hedge than shrek, and agree with the "scary movie" analogy.

here's hoping dreamworks puts out over the hedge in hd. insta-buy.

So the Hairspray Blu-ray has PiP, but not Pan's? That's funny...

edit: Nevermind, it's just selectively worded to appear that way. PiP is not HD-DVD exlcusive.

Yeah it's a bit facetious to call that list "HD DVD-Exclusive Extras"

Yeah the whole "HD DVD exclusive extras" are actually High Def exclusive features some of which are HD DVD only.

What are Linkouts?

I'm really interested in hearing how the transfer for Edward Scissorhands is. Please post when you can.

My views on Edward Scissorhands :
A little grainy due to the age, but all and all a really nice transfer.
Colors really jump out very vividly, yet the blacks are quite good also ( which is important in a Burton movie :lol )
A definite boost in detail over the dvd version that I have ( though it is not the anniversary version, it is the first release)

My only slight fault with the release is that there is not much in the way of extras.
There are only a couple of commentary tracks ( one Burton, one Danny Elfman), and one featurette but from what I have heard the Anniversary dvd release is no better.

Definitely glad I added it to my collection.

The Blu Ray standalones surged with the new models, but I expect that Toshiba's new players have gotten HD DVD back on top in standalone sales recently. If you've followed our earlier discussion on this, you'll know that the players have been neck-and-neck during the earlier part of the year, before Toshiba dropped the price, then close again after the $499 and below players came out for Blu Ray. There's not been a steady progression upward for either side.

So... 28 Days Later... filmed with a SD MiniDV cam... how does the HD version look?

The reviews that I have read have stated that the video quality is pretty much exactly the same as the DVD version except for the last 7 or so minutes at the end which is actually high definition.

Do not buy 28 Days Later for the image quality. The sound is improved however.

Well if we know anything we know that standalone players are either neck-and-neck or BD has a small lead in the last couple of month. Given the existence of the PS3, that should hopefully put to rest any final dreams of HD-DVD pulling ahead, and thus the final end of this format war. I hope this happens by early next year.

Yeah, well I hope BRD goes out of business tommorow. So there.

What was the reasoning for shooting the movie this way? It seemed to have a good budget...

Bill Hunt working the FUD:

Also today (and this would go in the Rumor Mill category so salt it accordingly), a number of readers have e-mailed us to say they're hearing that Canadian electronics retailer Future Shop may be dropping HD-DVD. The retailer has reportedly liquidated its stock of Toshiba HD-DVD hardware and their online site no longer lists stand-alone HD-DVD hardware (only Blu-ray and Combo players remain). What's more, employees from multiple Future Shop locations have apparently told Bits readers that the chain is no longer stocking HD-DVD due to lack of interest from their customers. We'll have to see if there's anything to this. It COULD simply be due to a change-over in Toshiba's player models (the new models for late 2007-2008 aren't in stores yet). Thanks to Bits reader Dan C. (among others) for the info.

It seems FS is getting ready to receive their new 3rd gen HD DVD players, so they were liquidating the 2nd gen machines. But that didn't stop Blu Ray Bill. We'll see what happens.

The part I bolded was added by him after he posted it and realized that folks calling up FS were being told that they could get their gen 3 players, Transformers, Evan Almighty, or any upcoming HD DVD release at the store.

OOOPS!!

Like the Paramount announcement where he swore up and down that MS had made the payment and refused to acknowledge when MS officials contacted him and even after it was revealed that Toshiba had offered the incentives, I doubt we'll get any sort of retraction from him.

Bill Hunt's a Shill!?!?!?!? OH MY LAWD!?!?!?

Chicken Little is supposed to be arriving from the 5 Free thing, but that was ages ago so who knows.

I just had a great idea: I'll go buy The Prestige and The Lookout and we can split the costs.

I just got this in the mail. I know all about the IQ issues, since its documentary style and all. I rented it from BB Online and liked it a lot. Plus it sounds great over my surround system. Really, it was the "Where the Streets Have No Name" set in the outdoor stadium (Arizona I think) that sold me on this. It looked fantastic imo. Other areas looked average, plus most of it is in black & white. Great music, though. Plus I got it for $17 when DeepDiscount had their Paramount HD DVD sale.

If he wasn't lying about what the FS employees supposedly said ... it isn't FUD. He was misinformed.

I was told by a vagrant that holds the door open at the Future Shop on Robson and Granville in Vancouver that Universal is going to withdraw from HD-DVD AND buy Paramount so they can fully support Blu Ray. Also, Toshiba is going to get out of any and all electronics from now until forever because Bill Hunt would like it to be so.

I swear I sent mine in like...2 and a half fucking months ago ; ;

Is it the same FUD Harry Knowles was spreading on AICN?

And Rob Enderle. And Bill Hunt.

You can try to point to the HD DVD side, if you'd like to somehow feel like it makes it any more acceptable. But it doesn't really matter which side of the fence they're on, does it?

I don't care of anyone's FUD. Yet you do as you regularly visit Hunt's site and inadvertently spread his message around.

Just let it go. You're like some desperate guy trying to get back with his girl. Just let it go. You propagate the FUD so much that you're helping Bill's cause.
