Yeah, it's Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1, plus 2ch PCM. Those are the audio options. Good enough for most people, that's for sure (including me). I plan to get an Onkyo sometime next year, but until then, the add-on is pretty much the ceiling for me. The only other option for me is to get one of the high end Toshiba's ($500 plus) and run 5.1 analog.

I'd much rather just update my receiver.
What he said.

DD5.1 used to be good enough for me as well.
But hard to go back now.

Tekkonkinkreet does this, too. I've heard that the Spider-man movies also have this feature.

Bram Stoker's Dracula has this too.

And as to next week, Transformers or not HD will not win the week.
All of the bogo deals and whatnot will in my opinion counter any transformers boost.

What will really be telling is not the overall ratio, but the top ten list. If Transformers holds a large lead over the second-place entry, we will know it did well.

I don't think that will be a problem (Transformers having a big lead over second place) even IF Blu Ray takes the week. This is because the deals were for a large group of titles, not just one or two, so the BRD numbers will be more balanced, even as Transformers takes a huge chunk of the top ten percentage.

Of course it will do well. I would expect Transformers to get nothing less then #1 on the HDM list by a large margin.

Ever seen these charts before?
Big titles win.

Yes and over all blu ray wins.
What, now that it is convenient people want to play the "but our title is #1" game?
The bottom line is that it will STILL be a 60/40 week for blu ray if not better.

The Heroes is extremely tempting but the selection of movies for the 5 is freaking horrible.
Is the Heroes thing only for a week?

Dude its 5 F-R-E-E movies, plus a F-R-E-E 99 dollar box set plus king kong. Pays the player itself. The movies may suck but if you haven't taken the plunge yet, might as well now.

Who's playing that game? HD DVD has had the #1 title before. Just a few weeks ago, in fact. What's your point?

it's a valid criticism. Ever since Peter Bracke left it's been on a downhill swing. the forums there are insane (literally). I was banned after one post and labeled a spammer. My post? something about guitar hero and impressions I've had with the game so far. wth?

I registered for the Knocked Up Web-Enabled content, and I was wondering--will this same account work with Transformers even though its from Paramount?

I formatted my HD-DVD memory and I don't have my account saved on there anymore, and I can't remember my password for the Knocked Up sign-up, but when I tried to register for Transformers, it said my username was already registered and I have a hard time believing that. :p So, it made me think it was a universal log-in for all HD-DVD movies.

Also, is there a website related to the Web-Enabled content where I can sign-up/edit account information instead of using the dreadfully slow player interface?

Paramount was nice enough not to require you to register to download Transformers content.

Numbers are 71:29 Blu-ray this week.

Yow, that's an ass kicking. :lol

So how were the releases stacked that week? I noticed HD DVD's Amazon numbers taking a bit of a tumble last week but didn't expect the difference to be so large.

Blu-ray owes its life to PS3, that's fo sho.

It was filmed on a Canon Xl s something or other camera at like 756x 400 and thus does not benefit video wise to HD.
I bought it because i didnt have it and got it with Weeks, it hasnt shown up yet because apparently someone i dont know signed for my package and proceeded to steal it even though i live in a house by myself. So i havent had a chance to take a look at it yet.

I made a comment about it in the thread I made....95 percent of the film looks ghastly! :lol

...but obviously filmed like this on purpose so didn't bother me. Its crazy though because the last five minutes actually look hidef and its sooo jarring in contrast with everything before it (probably shot end with standard film or something)

...anyway, if you considering rebuying it though, don't bother as the extras are exactly the same as the standard def version, as with the overall IQ

This is the week before Transformers (HD DVD will most likely "win" that week)

I dunno man, that bogo snafu at Circuit City was pretty crazy. I bought 10 disc's myself so it should be interesting to see :D

Just a heads up to any UK HD-DVD Gaffers looking for Serenity; My [second most] local Tescos in Gatwick were selling it for £13, which as far as I can tell is a damned good price.

So you're that viral marketer ManaByte was talking about. ;)

He was probably thinking of this guy :lol

But I do think Blu-ray has a chance to beat HD DVD in "next" weeks numbers, simply because of that screwup. It wasnt until the final day of it that people began reporting that it was working for HD DVD as w'ell. And overnight the deal died.

On a related note, has anyone sent their Stargate disc to Lionsgate for a replacement? How long did it take?

You forget that Amazon and Best Buy also had buy one get one free on disney/buena vista titles. And Fry's had select blu-rays for 9.99

What did you have to send it in for? I have it too, mine works fine.

Subtitles, Apparently someone messed up and didnt include a 3rd subtitle track for the alien dialog which was in theatre. Lionsgate has a replacement on the shelves, but its completely random if you will get it or not. You can ID it by seeing if the disc has a 3rd subtitle track. The older ones do not. There's still confusion over at AVS with people posting pictures of foreign dialog subtitles, saying its the fixed one (its not).

Its not a big deal, but I still want it for completeness sake :)

A message will play, copy down the address to send your disc into (be sure to include a note with your address and phone number).

Isn't exactly on topic, but I figure the people in this thread will know - Any word on Bluetooth universal remotes? I keep hearing that Sony left off IR because "Bluetooth is the future" or some such thing, but just how far into the future are we talking about?

I suppose I'm just bitter because I'm constantly knocking the Sixaxis off my recliner.

Considering that no tv and no audio equipment that I know of have any kind of bluetooth support I would say far far away.
I would say try and get the PS3 remote cheap if you can and like me hope that someone releases an IR dongle option.
(Guitar Hero and Rock Band use an IR dongle on the PS3 from what I hear, it would be great if someone to find a way to use it for other things)

What I meant about Transformers' ratio to the next title in the list is that we, the educated, will know that HD-DVD socred big even if bogo offers obscure the fact.

Yeah I ended up going a bit over board too. Bought a total of 11 HD movies, (9 from CC and 2 from BB because CC was sold out of Apocalypto. Unfortunately BB happened to be sold out of every other worth while Disney movie I didn't already own, so I ended up getting Pirates 2, hopefully I can take it back later and exchange it for something I actually want). I got 9 BRs and 2 HD-DVDs, guess I'll finally pick up the 360 HD-DVD player next week with Heroes, and get another stand alone player later on down the line for the living room...
