Wrong. Wal-Mart said that the HDA2s aren't closeouts and that the Toshiba will continue to manufacture the units for them.

Mind pointing to this info?

That really doesn't make sense since the A3 is reported to be cheaper to produce. Why would they continue to make the A2 at a higher price?

Data from week ending Oct 28:

A trio of new releases topped the Blu-ray Disc sales chart for the week, led by "Meet the Robinsons" at No. 1 and continuing with "Mr. Brooks" at No. 2 and "Hostel 2" at No. 3. On the HD DVD sales chart, "Transformers" remained at No. 1 for the second consecutive week, while Universal Studios' season-one set of the TV show "Heroes" was No. 2 after two months in the market.

Guess there weren't that many Kubrick fans.

I still say HD DVD has a good chance in winning this week.

Seriously, seriously doubt it. If they were going to win one, it would've been last week.

Yea, that made a lot of sense, atleast use your head before posting. Sony had the BOGO deal going on that week. Come on!

Chill the hell out man.
Every post you have made at least in the last week or two is some kind of attitude filled attack on someone.
It was his opinion, and it is not far fetches as week one sales are pretty much a given to be far higher than week two.
I personally think that he is taking the Heroes deal a bit lightly but that is no reason to jump his shit.

Ok two shay,

But one difference how many HD DVD owners new about that deal is the question. It was advertised for Sony but, I thought it was a great move on their part!

The Fry's BOGO was advertised.

HD DVD had one sale, that was a glitch and not supposed to happen to begin with, while the BD sale was going on at CC, Best Buy and Amazon to name a few.

Fry's doesnt count because they are not recorded in Neilson, I believe.

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Superman-Animated-Series-Hi-Def-Doomsday/8342

Just a little over a month ago, Warner Home Video released Superman: Doomsday DVD, an animated feature based on the comic book stories of Superman fighting the battle of his life...literally! Early in 2008, Warner will continue along these lines with a similar release of Justice League: The New Frontier.

The Justice League release is going to arrive on February 26th, available not only on DVD, but also on the competing hi-def disc formats HD DVD and Blu-ray disc. The news attached to that, though, is simply that the same day will see brand-new hi-def Blu-ray and HD DVD releases of Superman: Doomsday as well! Yes, our retail informants tell us that the studio has decided to add in an additional pair of releases, one for each of the hi-def formats. They tell us that these will each be single-disc releases, probably with idential content (but simply in hi-def, up to 1080P is expected!), and that pricing has not been set on them just yet.

Warner hasn't officially announced these so far, but is expected to withing the next couple of weeks.
We should have cover art around the same time, so stay tuned and we'll follow up as we get that.

Are you guys seriously trying to argue that HD DVD had a comparable sale to the nationwide BOGO sale for Blu Ray???? Seriously????

GTFO!!!

Face/Off hidef digest review:

4.5/5 Video
'Face/Off' arrives on HD DVD with a 1080p/VC-1 transfer that delivers everything fans have wanted and more. Colors are vibrant, black levels are deep, and contrast is perfectly balanced -- the previously-released DVD looks like an aging VHS tape by comparison.

5/5 Audio DTS ES 6.1 surround track (1.5 Mbps) and DD + (1.5 Mbps) Paramount is on a roll in the audio department
I can't praise these tracks enough -- these aren't just impressive catalog mixes, they go toe-to-toe with the top tier tracks available on HD DVD.

All the extras from the Special Collector's Edition dvd released a couple months ago have been ported in HD. For fans of the film, this looks like a keeper.

I bought Face/Off recently on bluray in the UK. Haven't gotten round to watching it just yet. Its supposed to be an excellent transfer.

Region free too - I have a Region A player.

Nah ... just trying to see if I can draw you out to respond to my previous reply to you. :D

As I suspected, you disregarded the reply and instead simply waited around for something new to go on the offensive about :p

Did you ask me a question?? You said that it didn't matter who owned who (fine, whatever, now details don't matter). Then you state that Toshiba has a new model that was going to replace the A2. Yeah, duh. My only problem was that you wrote it off like this was a clearance sale when it WASN'T Toshiba that sparked the price drops and there are still plenty of A2 units to sell, according to Walmart.

At least you know how to get me to respond. :lol

So tempted to pick up Spiderman box set. I don't care for the first two movies, but considering it's just $30 more than the cost of the third movie alone, it's a bit tempting; plus it breaks down to $20 a pop per movie. Ugh!

It is not a bad deal at all, and even though I really did not like any of them it is one of the first things friends as to put on when they are over

Yeah, Spiderman 2 wasn't as bad as the first one; and the third movie IMO is a great superhero flick. Lots of superhero action. And dick Peter Parker is great. They could make entire movies about Peter under the influence of the Venom parasite being a dick to everybody, and I'd watch them all. :lol

So you're a contrarian, right? Like, if a lot of people hate something, you'll like it a lot?
If that were true he would be an HD DVD fan.
ZIIING!

jk, please try not to freak out

Nope.

I really wanted to like Spiderman when it came out in the theaters. I just didn't like it.

I was expecting to hate Spiderman 3 with the lame Venom and shitty EXTREEEEEEME SNOWBOARDING kid throwing grenades; but it worked out well in the end. Plus it gets points for finally getting a villain right from the god damn comics visually with Sandman.

No Power Rangers body armor or trench coats. Just good old dopey striped sweater and brown pants. AWESOME!

But it's mostly dickhead Parker that saved the movie.

VanMardigan

That "review" sort of reinforces my contrarian hypothesis. :lol

I'm just kidding with you, btw, though I know quite a few people in real life who are contrarian and just wait for folks to take a consensus opinion on something ("that movie sucked!!") just so they can take the opposite route and be special ("best movie of all time!!")

I received my Spider-Man Trilogy BD/Motörhead HD order from DVD Pacific.

*Opens envelope*

They sent me Spider-Man 3 BD instead...urgghh.

And my Motörhead HD disc is scratched because of a broken case :/

Also picked up Face/Off and Galapagos on HD DVD. Checked out a little bit of Face/Off...the PQ is great for a rather old movie, but some shots have excessive edge enhancement and others have DNR applied to them. Kinda annoying after being spoiled by a near perfect shot. The sound does indeed sound terrific though, I actually prefer the DTS-6.1 soundtrack since it's louder and a bassier on my set.

Is that Justice League movie the New frontier? If so, dang that's cool!

I love that story.

I'm just really concerned with them translating a pretty long, story wise, series into a 90 minute or so video. :(

As for Spiderman - I dunno man.

When I go to see a superhero / comic movie I like to have cool shit happening. Spiderman 3 had lots of that.

Sort of like Superman 2 or Blade 2.

Anyone getting Old Boy on BD? Can't wait, but I'll wait for the review just to make sure the quality is good.

You may want to look at the tenor of your post. We've had plenty of entertaining discussions, so I'll be honest with you. Sometimes you come off like an asshole :p

Do details matter? In general, certainly. However, if a given detail is irrelevant to the point, attacking the poster on that is silly, if not rude. If its done as an attempt to discredit the post's point, then it is worse than that (though I don't believe you did that).

Then you state that Toshiba has a new model that was going to replace the A2. Yeah, duh. My only problem was that you wrote it off like this was a clearance sale when it WASN'T Toshiba that sparked the price drops and there are still plenty of A2 units to sell, according to Walmart.

As to who sparked it, why does it matter? Obviously Walmart is making some sort of profit on it, so that means Toshiba had to agree to sell it at a certain pricepoint ... and the assumption is that they are likely taking a loss.

My interpretation is that $199 was in fact the price Toshiba was planning for their entry-level HD DVD player in time for Christmas. However, they expected it would be the A3* they were supplying for this (with remaining A2's going on clearance). However, Toshiba did not reach their sales goals for this year, and ended up having more A2 units available than expected.

* A3 costs less to produce than the A2.

At least you know how to get me to respond. :lol

:lol yeah.

I can understand the everyone in this thread is an AQ and PQ nut, but FaceOff? Seriously? I don't care how good the quality of the transfer is, is this movie not known as a universally terrible movie?

Just saw a Walmart commercial for a Toshiba (model not mentioned) HD-DVD player. It mentioned the Friday sale, but only in the context of an Acer laptop.

It's a John Woo movie, which means you love or hate.

Face/Off is/was widely appreciated.

Spidey 3 sucks TToB. It's too long, they tried to do too much, and all the heroes and villians kept whining and crying like a bunch of emo kids. Plus they fucked up eddie brock / venom :p

I recently bought Unforgiven and I watched it last night. Awesome movie (had never seen it) and it looks really outstanding, I was quite surprised by the quality.

Anyways, I just saw that it's on the list of $15 movies at Wal-Mart, so I thought I'd put my two cents in.

Should I assume Wal-Mart will be receiving a special shipment of those sales HD-DVDs? I ask because my Wally World only stocks about eight titles on a regular basis and none of those listed are among them.

I would think they would have facing on the aisle or perhaps a bin of them but you never know.

Dude, I don't care.

I wasn't bored to tears. Crazy as that sounds, I think being all over the map in a three hour movie; or however long it was helped. :p

Peter and Snaggletooth's relationship was pretty shit though. I swear, that's some 1970's level movie writing there; or some inexperienced comic nerd relationship theory shit. No couple could be as dysfunctional as Peter and Snaggletooth.

At at the very least the chick playing Gwen was a soothing balm for the eyes after two Snaggletooth flicks.

Yeah, Eddie Brock should have been beefy; but what the hell. They f@cked up Venom's origin anyhow. Blame Marvel for not pushing through that Secret Wars 2 movie. :lol

It doesn't matter man. It's not my most favorite movie of all time, it was just pretty good for a Spiderman movie.

I think Face/Off was knee capped by Travolta and Cage ( at least IMO ).
If it was two nobodies or a at least countless different actors I would have liked it more.

As far as Spiderman 3 goes, I think was drinking and had a bet with someone saying "hey, they will choke down anything I throw at them and love it...check this shit out" and the movie was born. I know he hates Venom and all but he didn't have to shit on him.
I will say that Topher was great, as was the chick that played Gwen.
They actually had charisma which is something Tobey and Dunst wouldn't know anything about and they didn't have that whole glossy eyes fighting back tears for the close up shot thing going for the whole movie either.

As for Unforgiven , great great movie which should be in any collection even if not a fan of western genre films.
