Because why buy HD-DVDs now when they'll probably be even cheaper clearance sales in a couple months?

I could make the same argument on the Blu side. Movies get cheaper, though I understand that you mean the HD DVD stuff will hit rock bottom very soon, in terms of pricing. Then again, I wasn't one to wait. I still don't know how some of you went this long with only one format. I wish Paramount would make some sort of statement that would at least give me some sort of timeframe on their releases, since if the wait is long, I might as well pick them up now.

Damn these sales! I've largely neglected any Blu-Ray purchases since first getting a PS3 last april(with Casino Royale)...mostly due to finances, but partly due to the annoying "format war"(made more annoying with the Paramount thing, but thankfully the Warner announcement has put things on the right path once and for all). It's funny how the Warner development has made me WANT to by more blu-ray disks. I reluctantly did the amazon BOGO on the 7th and got the first four Harry Potters. I'm waist deep in post-holiday bills but the Spidey trilogy for just over $40 is very tempting...i'm gonna have to be cheap though, if I get anything, i'll get the remastered The Fifth Element, and maybe one other $14.49 disk. And I still need to get Planet Earth one of these days.

I want Old School and Anchorman, but I want to wait for Paramount to make some sort of statement before I decide whether to buy any more of their movies.

It has to be coming.

I concur. I had a few movies in my basket, and realized all of those will be even cheaper. I went ahead and bought Blood Diamond and Flags of our fathers, because I want to make sure Ive got those before they are hard to find. I want to go neutral in the next few months, but in case its longer, those are movies I really want to have now.

when you see a link with ... in it, do the right click -> Copy Link Location instead of just ctrl-c + ctrl-v.

I was thinking about Criterion and their move into HD and how much it's going to cost. You think Fox is bad at $40? Criterion have always been more expensive and will probably push $50. I hope not and await their possible (probable?) announcement in the coming months.

anybody use blockbuster online for bluray rentals?

I am sick of netflix, the waits for bluray are too long

They shipped me Rush hour 3 in standard def and they didnt have it in bluray when I added it to my queue.

Now they say they have it in bluray.

I probably should save my monthly dues and buy 1 additional bluray a month

I'd wait.

I got both those movies for xmas and they are just the dvd transfer with an hddvd label on top. In other words, they do not look HD at all.

They were a little slow in adding the BRD versions of Rush Hour 3 and Shoot Em Up for some reason. I don't jump anything to the top of the queue unless they specifically give the option for the BRD versions.

I'm thinking that as the format war continues to head one way, they'll start stocking up on additional newer titles. Or basically, bug the shit out of their purchasing dept by sending "Please buy more copies of Blu-ray movies" requests via: http://www.netflix.com/Suggest?type=0

Thanks for the link. I suggest anyone that is pissed about the queue status for HD titles go there and demand that they buy more discs.

They won't be. Look how many people are happy to buy DRM-laden 128kbps songs from iTunes. A step down in quality from CDs, but people want the convenience.

I believe this to be untrue ... at least not to nearly the same extent.

The typical 'usage' of video is VERY different from audio.

A big advantage to iTunes over CD is cherry-picking the songs you want. Does not apply to movies, and will probably men a slower rate of adoption for an iTunes-like model.

Most people can't hear as well as they can see.

(Too bad I can hear better than I can see... :( )

Very true.
The success of things like Itunes is directly related to the fact that everyone has a portable mp3 player these days, and also mp3s are better for cars than cds.
Comparing music downloads and movie downloads is distorted.

From Anime On DVD:

"Appleseed on the Move (11:03 AM EST): With the recent shift by Warner Bros. in their format plans for high definition releases, their single anime release has been adjusted because of it as well. Their plan for spacing out releases is in place and the DVD and Blu-ray editions of Appleseed: Ex Machina will street as originally planned on 03/11/2008 while the HD DVD version has been bumped back to an 04/01/2008 release date."

edit: Oops, Jim already posted this info two pages back.

I did, and switched to netflix. It's the same crap basically, at least when I was a subscriber. If you have a BB nearby to use the in-store exchange it's fantastic, but since my local BB stopped accepting the envelopes as movie coupons, I switched since Netflix is cheaper.

I do Blockbuster Online, it is not bad.
Always able to get movies, nice selection plus I can take movies into the blockbuster near my house and get something on the spot.

Joke post?

Not at all.

This will probably be a back and forth game, with the name brand helping out HD-DVD more than Blu-ray. Also, people like red more than blue, which is a known fact.

Then why did Blu-Ray outsell HD-DVD all fifty-two weeks last year? Wait...this is a joke post isn't it. :lol

Are those prices for the BDs on Amazon temporary for a sale, or are they permanent? There's no indication of it being a "sale".

Netflix is a godsend compared to Blockbuster for BRD's. You think you have it bad now? Try 25 of 25 BR movies with wait times, some old (by a year!), some new, and some concert stuff I figured no one would want. Didn't matter, all had waits. I had the service for 3 months and never saw a bluray (unless with an in-store exchange).

Don't even waste your time trying out BB if all you do is rent BRD's.

I whinny my fervor lowly, for his length is not as great as those of the Hylian war stallions
I was wondering if anybody would try a post like that :lol

Bill Hunt has proven himself to have gone directly into "retard" mode after turning his site into a BDA marketing tool:
Also this morning, we haven't verified this in any way, so file it heavily in the Rumor Mill category. But our friends over at Blu-ray.com have learned at CES that THX is starting prep on a future Blu-ray release of Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. That would make sense, as Spielberg is known to prefer the BD format. It is, of course, a Paramount title.

LUCASFILM you dumb shit. Lucasfilm is working on the Indy 4 DVD/BRD release. Paramount has nothing to do with it at all other than cashing their check.

Three-week delay for the rest of HD-DVD titles until March
Formalizing the first step in its HD DVD separation plan, Warner has pushed back the previously-announced HD DVD releases of 'The Invasion' and 'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.'

As we first reported late last week, Warner stated in their original Blu-ray exclusivity announcement that although they would continue to support HD DVD through May, their HD DVD releases would now follow their Blu-ray release by "a short window."

The studio has now confirmed the first titles to be affected by the transition, announcing a three-week-delay for the HD DVD/DVD combo versions of 'The Invasion' (now February 19, previously January 29), and 'The Assassination of Jesse James' (which will shift from February 26 to March 18).

Street dates for the previously Blu-ray and standard DVD versions of both titles remain as originally scheduled.

The studio has told us to expect a three-week delay for all of its remaining HD DVD/DVD combo titles through the May 2008 cut-off, but that they will officially announce the new dates over the next several weeks.

At presstime, all Warner HD DVD catalog titles remain unaffected by the transition, and are still set to street as originally announced (including such highly-anticipated titles as 'Bonnie & Clyde' and 'Twister').

Tech specs and special features for both 'Invasion' and 'Jesse James' remain intact, and Warner says future delays will also not see any changes in specs.

As always, you'll find disc details for 'Invasion' and 'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford' linked from our HD DVD Release Schedule, indexed under their new dates.

See what people are saying about this story in our forums area, or check out other recent discussions.

Paramount's logo is still on it you dumb shit. Talk about pouncing on someone for no reason, he was just saying that they're working on a fucking BD release of Indy 4. You know he does make it a habit to inform his readers of developments in the home video biz such as this.

Also, in regards to Indy 4, it's a fucking Paramount title just as much as the Star Wars titles are Fox titles. BDA marketing tool my ass the dude has an opinion on how to make HDM succeed and the points he has brought up are all well thought out and sound.
