Absolutely. In fact, I've watched it. That's why I found it so funny. Whoever made it, did an outstanding job. Also, lest anyone think I'm fanboy cheering, I'm applauding the comedic genius and execution of that video.bune duggy said:ok, you do know that's a scene from a movie right?

Never had this problem with the PS3... and frankly I'm glad I didn't shell out more on a dedicated HD-DVD player given recent developmentsManaByte said:Standalones ftw.

Go To Avs and find a thread about a samsung blu-ray sometime . Both sides will have there flawed players. Actually I will save you some time:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=943967
If you go Hd-dvd you gotta go with a XA-2//A-35
If go blu its between the panasonic or the station.
I am glad you judge all from one
Sidenote: Up to 73 discs now.
(in case you don't know, the A-35's deinterlacing is broken ... so the 1080p output is basically useless)
So while BD has flawed players too, they also have some good ones ... and they will continue to get better, both as current CE's improve their designs ... and as more and more manufacturers jump in.
bune duggy said:So will a release of El Mariachi benefit from HD seeing as it was shot on 16mm film but got the expensive transfer to 35mm? Or is it something like 28 Days Later?
Sony's big on box sets, they should do one for this film series.

Standalones have a lot of benefits, but they are nowhere near ftw yet.
Nicodimas said:The xa-2 is not just decent player Onix as you know, its outstanding. I think both sides know the amount of support + Reon made it that way. (I own it so i may be skewed $450+7 movies deal)
The only thing it lacks is something absolutely mind-boggling to me. Playback on movies after you turn it off. It has the memory why not FW update this!
I have not heard that before. Considering many people argue the 1080p is better than the xa-2, I hope that is not true. I think you are thinking of the a-30 because they use different chips which i do know about it having issues.
I am glad you did not try to argue for the sammies though...:lol
When Toshiba joins the market with a duel player I hope they undercut the hell out of it.
I don't see how that's possible. They will only make a combo unit once HD-DVD really is dead. At that time, they won't have licensing fees to lean on, so they will need to actually make a profit on the HW.
With that in mind, I don't see how they can price things like they have while trying to establish HD-DVD. If they were to do something like this, it would be short-lived. Also, I would really fear for the quality of the unit, given their current offerings.
IIRC, it actually does have a number of actual 'bugs', but I'd need to find the official thread for it.

Argyle said:It's not really any better with a standalone player - I think my A2 is one of the least consumer-friendly pieces of tech I own, from the long boot times, to network configuration issues, to the loading screens (it took around 60 seconds on Eastern Promises, which I rented from Netflix - BD standalones probably aren't much better when they are spinning up the Java VM, but I thought it was an HD DVD talking point that they load faster)...

Amazon has 89 HD-DVD titles starting as low as $14.99. I guess they're trying to clear out their stock.
Gary Whitta said:Question, why doesn't/can't the PS3 identify the title of a DVD or BD movie from the XMB the way it does games and demos? Seems like that should be a no-brainer; when I put in a BD I'd like to see a little animated icon or whatnot indicating the movie, not just a generic disc and "BD-ROM".
Firmware update?
No you're not, but I actually kinda like the thickness and rounded edges of BDs. It's comforting somehow.Stinkles said:More importantly, why do Blu Ray disks feel thick and slimy? Am I the only one?
Spidermans and close encounters among others do exactly that.Gary Whitta said:Question, why doesn't/can't the PS3 identify the title of a DVD or BD movie from the XMB the way it does games and demos? Hmm I guess it's up to individual discs to either code that in or not then...captive said:Spidermans and close encounters among others do exactly that.

Sony's discs are the only ones that do it, and they only started doing it with the release of Black Book and whatever else came out that week.Gary Whitta said:Hmm I guess it's up to individual discs to either code that in or not then...
lol because Sony too is thick, slimy and slippery amirite? lulzStinkles said:More importantly, why do Blu Ray disks feel thick and slimy? Am I the only one?
BDs have to have some PS3 specific files on them to support the icon+name feature. Some have them (I think those recently made by Sony), most are not.Gary Whitta said:Question, why doesn't/can't the PS3 identify the title of a DVD or BD movie from the XMB the way it does games and demos? They'll care as soon as they realize they can't play more than 2/3 of the movies they're interested in.jobber said:still no half baked >_<
I wouldn't call it a clear out...probably a last ditch effort for Toshiba to make hd-dvd the better buy money wise.
$15 a movie + a $150 player vs. a $300/$400 player + $30 movies makes it seem hd-dvd is the better deal. The general, uneducated public doesn't know or probably care about the format war.

981 yes.Onix said:I assume you have the 971 or 981 then?
I'm going to get the 980 soon. It's too bad its PAL->NTSC conversion isn't as good as the 981 ... but it has the other features I need (480i HDMI output, and better SACD/DVD-A performance w/ analog for when I use it with my tube-amp).
Granted, I only have a few PAL DVD's, so it isn't that big of deal to me.
Bluy/HDD because it's 1080p, HDTV is only 720p.BIG BUBBA said:This is a pretty stupid question, but what's supposed to look better--HDTV or Bluray/HDDVD?
