"BLUE RAY?" Holy shit, why do people ever listen to this guy at all. If I were an HD DVD supported I would probably switch formats because just about everything Harry Knowles says and thinks is completely wrong. And annoying.

'Lost' to Make Blu-ray Debut This December

Bringing one of TV's biggest hits to high-def, Disney Home Entertainment has announced it will debut 'Lost: The Complete Third Season' on Blu-ray this December.

According to a rundown by The Hollywood Reporter of new TV-on-DVD releases due in late-2007, the third season of ABC's high-rated 'Lost' will make its next-gen bow on December 11, simultaneous with the standard-def DVD version.

Among the extensive bonus features on the seven-disc set are a documentary chronicling twenty-four hours in the production of the show, a one-on-one interview with star Matthew Fox, a selection of never-before-seen flashbacks, additional behind-the-scenes looks at ten episodes, audio commentaries, deleted scenes, bloopers and more.

No tech specs nor pricing details are yet available for the Blu-ray version of 'Lost: The Complete Third Season,' as Disney has not yet issued any sort of official press release or announcement for the set. We'll certainly keep you posted as soon as further details are confirmed.

The highly-anticipated debut of 'Lost' is only the latest in what appears to be growing studio support for TV programming on high-def in 2007. Disney's news comes after the announcement of a series of other hit shows coming soon to both Blu-ray and HD DVD, including Universal's 'Heroes: Season One,' which will see an HD DVD release this August, and Sony's 'Rescue Me: The Complete Third Season,' set to debut in stores on Blu-ray this coming Tuesday.

now make it a nice price and give us season 1 and 2!

Fixed.

It hurts me being BD-only. It hurts real bad, but I'm trying to hold out.

I figure it this way-- I hold out for a year or so. By then, one of the formats will be dead, and if by chance it's BluRay (unlikely, I think) the players will be very cheap for HD-DVD and I'll still have a PS3 for the BluRay movies I already won. If BluRay wins-- no problem for me.

this may be what moves me over to BRD, it'll be hard to resist this boxset (if its prices at 60 bucks or less, try and pull that 100 dollars for a half season of the Sopranos and you can rot)

Not only does the show look great in HD over the air.. it'll look even better on BRD (and the DVD's are horrid looking)

I sure wish more television Blu-ray releases would be announced... for example, I'm pretty pissed that you can only get Entourage Seasons 1 and 2 in 4:3 on DVD, but I'm willing to bet The Sopranos Season 6 Part 1 didn't do well enough on either HD format for HBO to really want to jump in head first on this thing.

You guys might find this interesting. Digital Bits updated with DVD player sales and one thing stands out to me.

Standalone DVD player sales are much stronger in 2007 so far than in 2006 despite the fact the new formats have been out (and no this chart does not include blu-ray/hd-dvd). 2007 might surpass 2003 as the highest year in DVD standalone sales.

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/cemadvdsales.html

In total there are 126,586,654 standalone dvd players sold in USA (by comparison there are around 45 million PS2's sold in America)

In a bit of what I would consider big news..

Universal is starting to include TrueHD tracks in some new releases. So far, Dawn of the Dead (2004) and Notting Hill slated for Late August are confirmed. I honestly dont think the jump from DD+1.5MB to TrueHD is that huge (at least on the Warner movies) but I guess its all about perception.

I'm in the same exact position. On the HD DVD side, of course. Except that I'll probably pick up a Ps3 instead of a standalone Blu Ray player. $399 is the price I want to pay, and if sales continue in the current trend, it should get there by next holiday. I'd like a chance to upgrade my tv before I buy the Ps3.

Both are also available on Blu-ray.

Was The Shooter any good? I'll probably pick it up.

I'll be buying Blades of Glory, most likely. The movie dragged at times, but their first dance routine had me laughing like crazy.

Matrix

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.

Yeah Harry's reasonings are hilarious, but hey, this is Harry we are talking about here. I'm not surprised.

Anyway, I noticed there are 5 one minute HD clips from The Matrix on the Live Marketplace right now. Have to say I'm amazed at the HD transfer for this movie, looks great. I still don't want the second and third movies though, so hopefully when it hits BRD I can buy just the first movie. But I doubt it. :/

The actual hd dvds look much better than whats on the marketplace,it's   worthy.

:lol

Harry is a douche

Frighteners sounds like weak effort from Universal.

Who the **** thought that putting a ~5 hour documentary on the SAME DISC with only 30gigs to use was a good idea? Sounds like both the film and the documentary (already in SD, but now with horrible compression to fit) took hits to fit together.

Gonna pass on this and wait for an eventual re-release down the line. :(

50gb discs are unnecessary, remember? :)

Disney Says No to 'Lost,' 'Badder Santa' on Blu-ray

In a late-breaking update, Disney Home Entertainment says that contrary to recent reports, the studio is not planning to release either 'Lost: The Complete Third Season' or 'Badder Santa' on Blu-ray this fall.

In the first of two major announcements for Blu-ray earlier this week, a retail announcement for an Unrated Version of 'Badder Santa' on November 20 was reported by various retailers across the web.

This was followed by a major story that originated at The Hollywood Reporter, outlining the studio's plans for TV-on-DVD releases for the coming year, which indicated a Blu-ray release of 'Lost: The Complete Third Season' on December 11.

However, Disney today informed us that both reports are erroneous, and that neither 'Lost' nor 'Badder Santa' are currently planned for high-def release. They also reiterated that they are Blu-ray exclusive, and have no plans to support HD DVD at this time (a recent IMDB report suggested otherwise).

Given the news, we've removed both 'Badder Santa' and 'Lost' from our Blu-ray Release Schedule. We'll certainly keep you posted on any further news or announcements on either title.

Blu-ray gets shafted but I'll still buy the blu-ray version.

edit: The color for the 300 logo better be RED when I buy the blu-ray version.

I hope that purple color logo is gone by release date. The HD-DVD version looks enticing but I would not go as far as to buy that HD DVD add on for my xbox 360.

Why don't you just pick up HD-A2, then? I like watching movies on stand alone players, they're just better than game consoles.

And the misinformation continues... Which standalone players? Compared to which console?
yeah, I prefer watching movies on stand alone players, they're better "IMO", I wasn't comparing or stating that game consoles are bad or something, sony is just doing great job with the ps3 being the cheapest and the best blu-ray player out, and Microsoft is doing good job offering an HD-DVD playback option, don't get me wrong my friend ;)

Well as long as the transfer is just as good, the lack of a fluff extra doesn't bother me.

To be honest I don't understand what is so great about these interactive experiences anyway. I just want to watch the movie. :p

Would you rather have The Frighteners with a 4.5 hour documentary and 3/5 video quality. Or a Frighteners with no extras and 5/5 video quality.

I'd take the latter.

Extras are good, but not essential or always a good idea to include.

Yes, but I find the Interactivity/Extras are something unique and sometimes worth buying a movie for, and yet welcomed when included.

‘Pirates’ Win Showdown, Make ‘Matrix’ Walk the Plank
by Thomas K. Arnold

"It was the battle of the high-def disc titans, and the pirates won.

In the first of what observers expect will be many high-profile title showdowns, Buena Vista Home Entertainment on May 22 released the first two “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies on Blu-ray Disc, just before the third installment in the blockbuster franchise opened on the big screen.

The same day, Warner Home Video released two “Matrix” collections on the rival HD DVD format.

Within a week, consumers had spent more than $2 million on those releases alone, according to Home Media Magazine market research estimates. The two “Pirates” films sold a combined total of nearly 47,000 units, while the higher-priced “Matrix” sets sold about 13,900 units.

In dollars, there was much more parity, since the single-disc “Pirates” releases fetched about $25 in stores, while the “Matrix” sets, each with all three movies in the franchise, were priced significantly higher. The five-disc “The Ultimate Matrix Collection” lists for $119.99, with an Amazon.com price of $73.95, while “The Complete Matrix Trilogy” (three discs) goes for $99.99 (Amazon, $63.95).

Bob Chapek, worldwide president of Buena Vista Home Entertainment, calls the “Pirates” sales tally a “strong and significant trend toward consumer preference for the Blu-ray Disc format.”

“We are thrilled by the critical and industry response to ‘Pirates’ on Blu–ray Disc,” Chapek said. “But more importantly, the consumer has spoken loud and clear. This is only the beginning, but it was certainly a significant and explosive indicator of things to come.”

Both high-def formats are gaining traction, amid growing Hollywood sentiment that the format war isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Observers question whether hardware prices would have dropped as dramatically as they have if only one format was on the market.

Warner Home Video last week announced sales of The Departed, which was released the same day as the DVD on both Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD, have surpassed 100,000 units sold in the two formats combined.

In March, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announced it had shipped 100,000 Blu-ray Disc copies of another new theatrical, Casino Royale, which as of the end of April had sold 74,280 units."

There goes the rumor about Disney releasing Bad Santa on HD DVD.

Has Warner said anything about the Harry Potter films on Blu-Ray/HD-DVD? I figure that Order of the Phoenix is a shoe-in for this Fall, but I'm curious what they're planning for the other four films...

Where are the real specs for 300?

ie, 50 GB discs? What codec? Importantly for Blu-ray since this is a Warner release. What is the audio codec?

These are more relevant to my interest people!

btw, DarkJediKnight, I think it's stupid to compare a Collection to separately-sold movies, yet the 47k units are just too little when comparing it to the 3 million units of PS3 that has been sold. ( Opinion )
