Hogwarts Legacy: The Haunted Hogsmeade Shop

For some reason I thought this was December. Looks like it got pushed to February 2023?

Not complaining if it did, plenty of other shit to play this year. But just wondering.

Hogwarts looks worse and worse each time I see it. Was hyped for the game, but lately, from the videos shown, my hype is dying...

Not sure what's up with the marketing of this game.

The reveal presentation they had was so good but every trailer since has been shit (except the one showing the dorm rooms)

Yeah, it was pushed back quite some time ago.
To be honest, I wasn't expecting that much news due to the push of the release. But I'm happy with what I'm seeing.

I'm aways looking foward for Hogwarts Legacy, but this video is very meh and it did nothing for me. Like I care about an extra quest, fuck that.

I feel this trailer show more the tone they are going for this game and I like it.

Making quests and actual game content available as a platform exclusive is a really crappy thing for any developer to do.

I mean it has to be a throw away quest that means nothing to the story or it would have to be included with the main game? Cosmetics and maybe exclusive items I can accept, but a whole quest? I'm not sure I've seen any other game do this before and I'm surprised there is not more outrage.

More and more this game falls away from my desire to play, the timed base building stuff like a mobile game really turns me off. I will reserve judgement but I was originally quite hyped for this but not so much anymore.

This has been going on for a while now. I remember being pissed about this back in 2013 (almost 10 years ago)

And Assassin's Creed Syndicate followed suit in 2015 with more of the same.

Lately we've had stuff like Spider-Man being exclusive to the PlayStation version of The Avengers game.

Yeah, exclusive missions are old hat by now. And yes, because of the exclusivity of said missions, they DO largely turn into shitty filler nonsense that means nothing. I'm actually curious about examples of games that have had a meaningful experience with exclusive missions.

These small trailers makes me think the game will be massive with small dungeons like this one. This is probably a side quest or something.

I'm not expecting this game to be the most polished game out there but I'm sure there will be lots of cool things to explore.

I was actually confused what this is o.O So it is a playstation only Quest in the game or is it a pre order only quest ??. . . what bullshit

The game seems to just shrink in its scale since its first reveal for some reason.
Well, just go back to the Hogwarts Legacy's State of Play to be reminded of its actual scale. Problem solved!

What people don't seem to understand is that this trailer and the last one are sidequest trailers. They only show small optional slices of the game. The main quest (goblins and top-hat dude) is still there, but if you choose to have Sebastian Sallow as a buddy, or if you have a PS5, you may want to try these quests.

You can debate whether that's a good marketing strategy or not (the new Zelda is also keeping a lot of cards close to its chest and didn't even have a full Direct about it!), but to claim that these trailers make the game look worse is silly imo.

I actually like the buddy sidequest trailers because having friends and helping each other out is a big part of the ~Harry Potter Experience~. And keep in mind, we still don't know who the Ravenclaw buddy is...

Nice to know its timed exclusive.

Perfect time to pick it up for 70 percent off next year when the content arrives

To be fair in Destiny's case they were timed for a year and after that promised to never do that again, which they havent so far, but I agree my Wife was interested in this but only plays Xbox so she misses out

Anyway, what is with the camera directions for these trailers, its always at a angle for some reason

it still started the money hat journey of timed exclusive content

Nintendo started the money hat journey in the 80s by banning people from the NES if they dared publish a game on a competitor's system. Sony continued that in the 32-bit era by money hatting the Tomb Raider franchise exclusively on PlayStation. All of that was long before Call of Duty was even invented.

Lol I know about Nintendo, Sega and PS. Tomb Raider was also on the Sega Saturn so its not the right example, it was a bit different to what Nintendo was doing.

Im talking exclusive DLC content/Timed DLC like what was mentioned with Destiny PS etc. Microsoft started moneyhatting timed exclusive DLC trend 1st, pretty sure COD was the first, maybe another game?

Playstation owners get:
  • Exclusive quest "Haunted Hogsmeade Shop"
  • An Extra Dungeon
  • Cosmetic Set
  • Exclusive Shop to Sell items
  • This shop allows you to "sell items and gear at better rates than anywhere else"
  • Recipe for Felix Felicis Potion to temporarily show location of chests
All exclusive to Playstation for 12 months until February 10th 2024

Tomb Raider was also on the Sega Saturn so its not the right example

Dude Sony bought the franchise exclusivity right after the original game was released. They paid Eidos to make the franchise PlayStation exclusive through the year 2000. The deal was finalized right before the release of Tomb Raider II.

Sony Computer Entertainment America Signs Exclusive Deal with Eidos for Tomb Raider Franchise; Lara Croft Videogames to Be Exclusive to the PlayStation for Game Consoles

Official Press Release - September 18, 1997

Released in November 1996, the original Tomb Raider game from Eidos Interactive and Core Design, was one of the best-selling videogames of all time with more than 1.5 million units sold for the PlayStation game console worldwide. Marking its one-year anniversary with a highly-anticipated sequel, Tomb Raider 2 is scheduled for release in November 1997.

"Core Design and EIDOS have created the most successful original product in years that became a number one hit on PlayStation in the U.S. and Europe last year," said Phil Harrison, vice president, third party relations, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "The PlayStation console is the undisputed world-leader in videogaming and it is appropriate that two leaders in their field should partner up in this way for Tomb Raider."

"Given the worldwide domination of the PlayStation system, it's a natural for Eidos to partner with Sony Computer Entertainment America and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe," said Mike McGarvey, chief operating officer, Eidos Interactive. "We want our best-selling franchise to reach the greatest number of consumers and the PlayStation and its powerful CD-ROM software format satisfies this demand. The fact that the PlayStation will be the only game console on which you can enjoy the Tomb Raider franchise is a great statement for the platform."

This game looks cool. The only problem I have with it is that it obviously won't include the characters from the books. But it seems it will be a good AAA single-player game, of which we don't have many nowadays.

Nice. Now we get Pay2Win in Paid games. Not just F2P anymore.

A month is a lot less than a whole year. The COD map packs were a month earlier on 360.
Well the GTA 4 expansion lost and damned came on PS3 more than 12 months after the X360 version for example. So long period exclusivities are not a Sony exclusive modus operandi.

Cool, must have gone exclusive after the first game, kinda pointless as Saturn was dead after 6 months. Playstation did loads of exclusives anyway, like Silent Hill, Persona, MGS and FF7,8,9 etc. Sega did the same with certain titles. MS also with loads of titles too, one of the main reasons why the Xbox OG and 360 had great games.

I was just saying the whole timed DLC, exclusive DLC, was started by MS in the 360 era, not sure if it was Cod or Something else

COD was a month before it went to PS. Exclusive DLC was started by Sony in the PS3 era with the PS3 release of BioShock. They had a policy at the time that if a game didn't release at the same time as on the 360, it had to offer exclusive PS DLC when the PS3 version came out. BioShock was the first game to fall under that.

My memory might not be as good as when I was a teenager, because I don't recall playstation get any Tomb Raider games the PC didn't.

Its exclusivity deals like this which makes jimbos comments regarding COD pretty rediculous. Who is he to try and dictate what level of competition is acceptable?

How come bioshock came out a year later on the PS3 than the 360?
