Probably should read before getting triggered
Lol I'm not, I just laugh at the BotW criticisms I come across, especially when they seem to always be so vapid. It was one of the best games if not
the best I've ever played. Maybe part of that was knowing nothing about it going into it so I had a really strong sense of discovery throughout the entire thing.
I don't care if you don't like it, but I do think people who don't are
seriously missing out on something absolutely incredible.
I know Zelda fans who hated BOTW because of its lack of traditional dungeons and meandering level design.
I am also baffled by the response BOTW got and still continues to get to this day. It has all the hallmarks of a bad Ubisoft open world game forcing you to climb towers and walk for miles before reaching your destination. The core combat was dated or exceedingly simple, the story too forgettable with boring characters and yet it is literally the greatest game ever made to some people. It makes no sense to me lol.
I loved Link Between Worlds and while traditional 3rd person Zelda never really appealed to me, I was super excited to play an open world BOTW, but it just made me dislike it with every single decision choice. I have gone back to it several times over the last five years and simply cant get into it. I have just one divine beast left but I cant do it.
Why does this not surprise me in the slightest. If you think it had a bad story, you are not paying attention. The story in Zelda games is always told in the details. The small comments villagers make. How they talk about the lives they are living, the people they have lost. But this requires you to
observe and
think. Zelda games are way darker than most other mainstream games, but it's typically hidden underneath a family friendly fantasy based visage. And I think people like you just don't get it at all. But again, that's ok. Nothing in Zelda is handed to you on a silver platter, it requires you to dig to get the most out of it and that's what makes it so rewarding and special. It's nothing at all like an Ubisoft game, aside from extremely surface level details. Climbing a tower, big whoop. That's nothing.
If you're walking "for miles" in BotW without things to do, again, you missed it. There is discovery and interest everywhere in that game. I do think with classic Zelda dungeons it would have been even better, but one of the reasons Zelda stays interesting is they are constantly changing up the formula somehow.
Anyway, those who get it get to experience some of the best software the gaming industry has ever offered. Those who don't try to make confused fun, but just come off kinda sad IMO.
