Horizon: Forbidden West State of Play announced for May 27th

Yes! To be honest, I'll be a little disappointed if there is no flying and aerial combat. Other than that, I'll be pretty happy with whatever we get. Even just more of Horizon Zero Dawn or God of War (2018) is amazing on its own.
Nah. If theres no aerial combat, and the human melee combat is still straight out of 1999 then its massively disappointing.

Really sad its cross gen.

hoping for a stunner, but however good it looks, it could have looked twice as good if it was a PS5 exclusive.

I hope we can use underwater machines and flying machines. I am wondering if this can run on PS4 but i don't care much tbh, i hope it will be a thing in the game, don't disappoint us Guerilla.

Also useless on ultra hard.

I was so excited to try the armour in the dlc and then bang...oneshotted :ROFLMAO:

But it was super cool looking (also the shield sound)

Awesome news. I don't understand the cross-gen concern trolling. If you thought the teaser looked good, then that's all that matters. I don't remember anyone coming away from the teaser saying it looked like a cross-gen title, so those faux worries can be stowed. Hopefully Sony is trying to build some momentum in game releases here. We had a delay between Miles + Souls, and R&C, but HW production was limited. Maybe now they can increase output with R&C coming, and then Kena and HFW later this year. Who knows, maybe GOW is still on the cards for 2021, which leaves GT for early next year. I'm sure I'm overlooking something else from last year's SOP.

That's true, but I understand why it's cross-gen. It was being developed as a late PS4 release (after Ghost of Tsushima). It started in early 2017. At that time, if Sony asked, when will you guys have the game ready, Gurreilla would have answered ~3 years (which is the norm for a AAA sequel).

That means around February 2020. Considering PS5 released in Nov. 2020, it was always going to be a PS4 first game.

Anyway, I hope it looks good, just like Miles did. GG is an excellent studio and will totally flex their muscles. Just 2 more days.

Real talk, if we're seeing Horizon Forbidden West this soon, what will Sony be showcasing through a State Of Play during e3 week?

Dont worry there's so much they have to show, but the truly big stuff depends on where the "certain" projects are. I know one of them kind of halted and restarted.

But still their state of play's and content through square-enix will be all throughout summer. Be excited:

I was hoping for some flying combat via a mech Pterodactyl, but I think that was shot down because its cross gen. I hope thats wrong though as flying was the only lacking thing in the original game imo.

Great news! Didn't think much of the first one but I'm open minded about this. Will get a PS5 later in the year if this releases then. Seems like this is how Sony are going to show games this year, bring it on.

Yes, yes, YES!

I’ve platinumed the first game despite finding it quite lacking in some aspects (pretty lackluster character customization, no real ”buildvariety”).

As long as Guerilla Games have improved on that single aspect it will provably be an easy GOTY contender.

I also expect this game to be a real graphical showcase on PS5, even if it is a crossgen game

I would say this pretty much confirms the game for later this year if I was a betting man.
Yeah, but tbh i'm just wondering, but thing also is i won't be bother if it's gonna be in 2022, as long as the game is fully polished and all is what matter mostly, waiting extra 6 months i don't have issue with this if it's to have a much better and more polished product (Say hi Cyberpunk 2077)

  • Introduce flying for traversal and aerial combat with flying machines
  • Improved melee system with varied attacks, combos, and parry.
  • More RPG elements + relationships with different cities and factions
  • Allow us to create our own ziplines with the bow and a special tether arrow
  • Better human AI and human combat
10/10 game.

This is what I like to see, Sony doing it the right way, showing a nice big gameplay demonstration. They're going to show the game, no doubt showcase all their engine enhancements, how they're using the SSD. Will be amazing to see! This significantly increases the chances it launches in 2021 now.
It's a cross-gen game so wouldn't be the best representation. But still, that in-engine trailer last year was gorgeous. If the final gameplay is close to that, it'll be jaw-dropping.

I... I want to ask. I know you can't tell me. Probably can't even hint. But I'm just so damn curious. You've done this to me. I don't want you to spill what you know. Just take responsibility for compromising my emotions.

My thoughts exactly, leads me to believe that they'll have stuff that's just as exciting if not more exciting to show.

Let's hope they put the last 12 months into building a proper next gen upgrade :)

I really don't see the issue with the game being cross gen. I wonder if people making those claims know about the history of the media. Remember how PS3/360 games struggled from day one at sub hd sub 30 fps. Very little ps4 games did that, exclusives were most of the time at solid 1080p 30 FPS.

What if for Forbidden West Guerilla decides to go with 720p 30 FPS on ps4? That saves a LOT of GPU time. Hopefully that's the case. And also what exactly do you want from next gen that can't be done on a ps4? A map 10 times larger? Flying mounts? so basically post apocaliptic GTA.

What they need is just more budget to refine animations, specially in cutscenes and overhaul melee combat. It's not about specs. For flying mounts they can use specific on rails sections of the game and that's it.

Make the ps4 beg for mercy and release the best game you can for ps5/pc with increased resolution/framerates/effects.

Looking forward to this but I'm pretty nervous. They have a lot they can improve on for this sequel, such as the human enemies and melee combat.

I'm excited to see the tropical looking environments as well. But I hope this isn't all Sony has for this summer.

MODS why so serious all the time?
The mods are generally pretty decent on these forums and have a good sense of humor,(most of the time) there has been a crackdown lately on console waring, that's probably why your post was removed.

If your new here, here is some good advice. People to avoid at all costs on this forum

Avoid Bo_Hazem Bo_Hazem , he's a Sony hater and always trolling PlayStation topics with 4k screenshots of his beloved xbox stuff.

Avoid DarkMage619 DarkMage619 , he's a total sony fanboy, and always trying to downplay xbox.

@VFXvetran works for the company Pixar, always saying how much superior the switch is to every other platform.

geordiemp geordiemp A person jealous of my technical analysis.

EviLore EviLore thinks he owns the place.

Riky Riky , a chap that plays at 240 dpi and 22000 fps.

Bill O'Rights Bill O'Rights is an atari fanboy (disgusting)

This is a basic spreadsheet of who is who and whom to avoid.

Hope this helps. :messenger_heart:

This could mean two things, either Sony is not going to have a big presence during E3, or they just have so much to show that HORIZON has been pushed into a State of Play.

I'm betting on the latter. This is gonna be insane.

Seems like a purposeful strategy to get people talking about their games for more than the single day of a traditional E3 presentation. Smart plan tbh.

They should be able to do flight. You can glitch the original Horizon (on PS4 even) and get above the world, and the loading/data-management system still holds up.

Guerrilla has stated that flight didn't make the cut in the first game (supposedly? this comes up all the time but I've never actually seen the quote get shared...), but that was over three years ago on a product line debut. Developers learn a lot when making a game and know how to push sequels harder, even on the same hardware. You couldn't fly in GTA3 either, but by San Andreas, sky's the limit...

Hmmm, yea could be. Either way, we heard they are working on a bunch of new IP which is what gets me most excited. Even though I don't have my PS5 yet...hopefully they'll be showing a lot of what I'll be playing once I get one. It'll happen this year fingers crossed.

That’s because the flight speed is the same as the ground speed which is why it holds up. I think they had said they couldn’t fly as fast as they wanted or something like that.

They aren’t doing E3 at all this year again because they don’t want to share the news cycle with the other brands.

That is why they are releasing news before E3

I'm betting the main differences will come to eye candy (a lot of it).

PS4 - 1080p / 30fps, similar graphics to HZD
PS4 pro - 1440p / 30fps, same
PS5 - 4k/30fps/RT or Dynamic 4k/60fps, tons of eye candy

All of them with flying mounts and underwater sections.

Oh snap! I'll definitely be! We will finally see if the footage they had debut last year was legit or not.

Edit: I'm still skeptical about a 2021 release... but I don't mind being wrong.

I quietly suspect a few games that we think are PS5 only are actually cross-gen, but where the PS5 version as the primary upfront consideration was the top priority and got all developer attention. Then from there adjustments will be made later to make the game viable on PS4. It's still my strong suspicion we will see Ratchet: Rift Apart on PS4, just not till it's already been out on PS5 for a solid period of time.

Although I could just as easily be wrong about that since Insomniac have stated it is exclusive to PS5. My main belief though is they can both make a game cross-gen and still take full advantage of the PS5 SSD, and I suspect many of Sony's top studios will demonstrate this. I think the strategy will just be to not even bother or care about simultaneous PS4 releases. Either way, I'm super excited about this gameplay demo. It means we'll get a solid look at the world and how the tech and gameplay is coming along.
