Horizon Zero Dawn PC Patch 1.02 is now available

I have a Ryzen 5 3600, 16g ram and a rx470.

I get 45-52 fps in 1080p with everything on high and ultra models, increased fov. I can get 30fps in 1440p. You'd kill it with a 5700xt

The game is running fine as hell for me

Weird, sounds like it might like radeon cards a little better. And seems to scale well cpu wise with a 6 core or higher. I remember hardware unboxed would do tests at 720/1080p with a 2080gti to see if cpu is bottle neck.

If your getting those frames with that level of card then it must like more cores, and radeon cards.

Probably going to bite the bullet and say fuck it,l buy it this weekend.

I'll test and report back as radeon has a second wave of drivers they just put out.

I don't think its a matter of hardware. It's a software thing.

Sounds like it might be a engine thing with nvidia cards.

If more people in here report what they find using radeon gpu and cpu and they have less issues running the game. Could be a instance of the engine and specific setups.

Here's someone from launch day running ryzen 3600, and 5700xt with settings set to ultra at 1080 getting 70-81fps. Then at 1440p they see it at around 60. Take out the recording aspect and that will an average of 3-4fps:

I wonder if they are getting this data. The rig they used in Digital Foundry was intel rig with a 2080. Maybe the engine like amd since it came from a based amd system in how they made it run?

So far everyone I know with a Ryzen cpu has no problems with the game, maybe a coincidence, maybe not.

Yea, this looks like some people who reviewed the port didn't do their homework. You should always have 2 -3 different setups. You cant expect to get same result with different cpu's, which have different memory controllers.

Especially when you look at the ryzen 3000 series.

I hope my old x1600 will suffice. I'm waiting till after consoles launch next year to build new with the new SSD's that were announced coming out. I want to build a monster, my Radeon VII has been great, so I'll wait till Spring next year for AIB sapphire cards for BIG NAVI before upgrading.

It's like this game was developed for console with an engine that was designed around AMD based console hardware. Makes me a little perturbed that no one thought " maybe since this engine is somewhat AMD based it might scale well on those cpu's/gpu's?

You know what, now that partnership they did with AMD cpu's makes sense before it launched. They had deals for if you bought a ryzen 3000 series you got horizon for free.

If I want to do some reading, I'll read a book. I wanted to play a game and it's broken for almost 2 weeks now.
It's a bummer some port house did the port instead of Guerrilla themselves, and I agree it should have never been released in the state it's in, but they've stepped in to fix it. It's understandable to be upset right now, but I like to think the port will be looked back on fondly if they fix a lot of the issues currently plaguing it.

Death Stranding certainly proved there's no reason Decima can't sing on PC, it just needs some talented developers to get in there and spend some quality time on optimization.

Well I just sold my rx 470 and bought a 1660 super.

Now getting 60-70fps in 1080p and 45fps in 2k with these settings:

high textures
ultra model quality
high anisotropic filter
high shadows
high reflections
high clouds
TAA anti-aliasing
motion blurr off
ambient occlusion off

Dont know why people are having an hard time with this game.

Nah, it's all over the place. Navi runs great while Vega runs it like garbage.

My 2080 Ti runs it at 60fps+ at 4K/Original settings. No stuttering nor crash. Runs great.

I have a 3600, 32Gb of RAM and a 1660 Super, and am seeing similar results as you, although about 45-50fps in 1440p. It's the cloud setting that kills frames for me. The other poster above, I swapped out ultra models for ultra textures.

Yep just swapped the rx470 for a 1660 super tonight and getting 45fps in 1440p now.

Why are you saying this, it is their first release on pc. Developers with years of experience in developing pc games will still ship unoptimized bug riddled games.

Maybe they should have spent more time and care on the port i can agree with that.

You know when people say that supporting a lot of HW and OS and driver combinations in a bugs free way is very hard and does not make optimisation easy as much as having a fixed target like a console? Well... not like the evidence behind this is lacking...

Massive perf uplift on an OC'd GTX 970 up to 32% boost with the latest patch. I think it's 1.03?
From 53fps to 70fps avg. on Original preset at 1080p.

Bringing it in line with GTX 980/1060.

What did you expect? PS4 is way faster than 2080ti.

At least one specific person on Gaf thinks this.
I can do a shitty port of Minesweeper that will stutter and crash on PS4. Will it be representative of PS4 performance? Obviously not. Some people have problem grasping this concept.

On a side note, I'm getting 3090 day one. If it struggles to run this game at 60FPS I'll laugh my ass off.

New Patch improves performance by %10.

Horizon Zero Dawn PC - Patch 1.04
Known Issues
  • Some players are experiencing an out of memory error during the game optimization process.
  • Some players are experiencing graphical settings issues, such as Anisotropic Filtering or HDR not working correctly.
  • Some players are experiencing performance issues on specific GPUs or hardware combinations.
  • Some players are experiencing issues with Aloy's hair when the game is running above 30 FPS.
  • We're aware of and continue to investigate issues that are not yet solved on both the player-compiled lists by u/EvilMonkeySlayer and u/Rampage572 - thank you!

Im knee deep in AC:O now while waiting for this game to be fixed. Maybe ill try it soon.

My gamepass subscription runs out in 2 weeks. Hopefully shimmering and AF are fixed by then.
It would be ideal of I could play this game during October while waiting for cyberpunk.

Sounds promising. They fix the tertiary stuff like snow deformation and other environment effects yet? I'm sure it's not priority. The game sounds stable enough now to warrant a purchase.

I think the previous patch fixed the snow, but not her hair.

Remember there were people ( a very small handful ) trying to argue that this game running like shit at launch was "proof" that console hardware magically performs better than PC hardware.

What do they have to say now? Nothing would be my guess.

They won't say anything but they will still believe console hardware performs better than PC hardware simply because.

Seriously considering grabbing this but I'm a little concerned about the alleged repetitive nature of the quests and gameplay overall. It's hard to get a feel for how good this actually is. Some people say it's amazing, others claim it's boring and very ubisoft (not in a good way).

What say you gaffers? I can be swung either way probably.

It's similar to Ubisoft games in structure. If you don't like let's say Assassin's Creed Odyssey, you won't like this one.

My only advice is to start the game at ultra hard if you want the best combat out of it.

Ok thanks guys. To be honest, I've not actually played an AC game, or any ubisoft open world games except farcry 5 (which I enjoyed for a few hours). Are the side quests really just limited to either find something, or kill something?

Slander.

This is miles better than any of the recent ubisoft open world games.

No. The game is well worth playing if you're curious enough.

I actually ended up refunding the game on Steam because it ran like arse at launch but will give it another go at a later date.

If you are unsure, grab it on Steam, see how you feel about the first couple of hours then decide from there.

I don't know. I enjoyed it but I wouldn't say I enjoyed it more than Assassin's Creed Origins, for example. Maybe it's the setting.

I think it's safe to buy it now. I played a little the other day and it's running well. Or maybe it's because I upgraded my GPU.
