House GOP may pass Senate's "skinny repeal" outright. CALL YOUR SENATORS.

Sounds like this is their only way to keep the healthcare bill initiative alive by tossing it back to the house even if it's trash under the assumption the house isn't going to vote for it(which it won't unless freedom caucus is totes cool with abortion now).

Abortion or hatred for Obama (and by proxy black people)?

I think the latter wins out.

I will press my state legislature to pass single payer even more if this thing passes.

Good thing I'm in California. I hope I don't have to do that.

Neither want to be the one to actually pass this ever evolving trash bill, but neither want to be the one to kill ACA repeal either.

Cowards, the lot of them.

Then why does he keep voting to press this thing forward and why did he vote for the BCRA? If he actually kills this thing, I'll be stunned. He's saying right now that all he wants is an assurance of a conference, even though the House doesn't have to do it, Ryan isn't planning to do it and the repeal can go right to Trump's desk without it.

This is peak cowardice. "We want to pass this bill, but don't actually want it to become law." So don't pass it?
Honestly didn't know you could even do the shit they've done with these health care bills until this week. They just want something to go to the house presumably to keep the healthcare idea alive. If this dies this week then I think that's it until the house republicans figure out another bill to put forward and start the circus again.

With regards to the house, skinny repeal seems like the furthest thing they want. It wouldn't get to Trumps desk. In any case I don't see Paul Ryan coming out and saying yep totally won't send to the White House.

you're gonna have to pressure the population of california to repeal half the budgetary restrictions they've imposed on the state government, then

Yeah, giving anything back to the House means shit all. They'll push whatever they want since they have enough of a majority to pass pretty much any slimeball deal they wanted.

....i agree with removing the ondividual mandate but not the other shit
The other shit doesn't work without the individual mandate. Why would anyone healthy buy insurance in such a scenario? Everyone would just wait until they were seriously ill. This inevitably leads to the market collapsing.

No offense to you personally, but how are we 8 years into Obamacare and people are still failing to grasp the basic logic of it?

Reporter: "What's the guarantee? Is it a blood oath?"

Senator Graham: "It's like pornography, we'll know it when we see it"

Lindsay missed his calling as a comedian. I suspect he'd make for a better one than he does a Senator.

The House can pass this without a conference and that's exactly what Ryan is preparing them to do. He made it so the House won't even have to do a debate. If this passes the Senate, it will become law. That's it.

For all the bluster these Senators just had about this being a bad bill and not wanting it to pass, a vote for this repeal is a vote for it to get signed by Trump. It's really that simple.

I just have a hard time believing the moderates in the Senate will pass it. I know we are in uncharted territory with the lunacy in Washington but forget about stripping people of insurance(which is just an evil act), they have to know the health insurance market will implode. I just can't believe they would press that button knowing the fallout. It would be even more insane than Trump getting elected. If the House passes skinny repeal, the Senate is out of options. They either fuck the entire health system over or they don't. I don't know, maybe it's for the best. If the market collapses we may HAVE to move single payer forward as an alternative.

The individual mandate is needed because the premise of health care is "medical care is expensive. The healthy subsidize the sick. People buy in because there's no way to know if you're gonna be ill or injured later."

If you require coverage of pre-existing conditions without pumping extra money into the system, you get a lot more care bills and no new income to pay them. That either means new regular taxes or the mandate.

Plus, if you're dying and go to the ER, hospitals treat you anyway and pass the cost of anything you can't afford to everyone else. the only way to opt out of the health care system is to become a hermit. Letting people gamble with their own health is also letting them gamble with ten's of thousand dollars of everyone else's money. The mandate is pretty much a "you're kidding yourself if you think you only hurt yourself by going uninsured" tax.

I mean, that's what I'm afraid of. The idea of working together on a bill was out the window when the GOP essentially decided to cut out Democrats from input on the bill to begin with. Hell, working together on Healthcare was out the window when Obama took office. Ryan gonna score some brownie points sucking up to Trump over healthcare, fucking over the rest of the country in the process.

What I can gather in short is that no one can come up with a bill to satisfy all the GOP, and they're running out of time on the attempt to reform healthcare. So neither the Senate nor House wants to be the one who kills the GOP attempt, but neither have anything they want to pass either.

Thus they're trying to keep the "process" going artificially so they can claim they are working on healthcare. But of course in this instance the House could just pass the Senate's skinny repeal and then blame the Senate when it all goes to shit.

What a great process for determining healthcare for all of America. A bunch of schoolchildren playing a blame game of who gets to fob off doing their homework.

This is delusional. There's no way current Republicans would ever pass single payer. They'd be vastly happier with everything imploding.

I didn't mean current congress, I mean when they all get the boot for doing it. If the market collapses and they just sit there, they are done.

What's really happening is that Republicans actually think the government shouldn't have anything to do with health care, but can't pass the straight repeal they want because it's politically toxic. There is no solution that satisfies them because they're all actually way more in line with Rand Paul on this than they'd ever care to say.

So what we're getting is this.

Graham is on record saying that if it doesn't go to conference, he won't vote for it.

Yeah, I know, GOP words are wind.

The House passed their own repeal and replace plan outright. Of course they will.

man the US fucking sucks rn :/
They wanted "their" country back, they have it and now they are fucking over their base along with everyone else. Sad to see that, the majority that voted for him, felt so strongly about them losing "their" country when they have 90% of the said countries wealth.

Fuck you, I want more. I don't care what you do just repel ACA because we refer to it as Obamacare and I hate that man.

I so wish only his base would suffer greatly, but unfortunately we all will suffer.

Yeah, I know, GOP words are wind.

That's nice but there's no way to ensure it goes to conference.

Ryan could say "yeah it's definitely going there" for the vote and then forget about it entirely.

I grasp ot but taxing someone who cant afford it is disgusting

The mandate exists to make healthcare premiums affordable for everyone in the pool. Without it, the pool shrink and is primarily filled with those who regularly need some sort of care for illness. Think about what would happen if the government didn't mandate auto insurance but you had a child that was prone to minor accidents because teen driver. Your rate would be well above anything even remotely manageable because either everyone on the plan would be at high risk for accidents or there wouldn't be anyone buying insurance to begin with because it was just too expensive. The comparison doesn't work 1:1, but pulling the mandate kills rates for anyone who will actually need insurance.

What's really happening is that Republicans actually think the government shouldn't have anything to do with health care, but can't pass the straight repeal they want because it's politically toxic. So what we're getting is this.

Unless you are on Medicare due to age only I would say that's the case. If you need it for any other reason (disability or income) then you should fend for yourself by getting more jobs or go without. Your choice.

Ah yes the jobs that just materialize for everyone and everyone is capable of working 16 hr no problem.

On 538's liveblog, they are making the point that if this goes to conference and it isn't going well the House, at any point, can just say "screw it" and vote for whatever the Senate passes and that's it. That seems like it gives the House a pretty powerful bargaining advantage in such a negotiation.

A person should only have to have 1 full time job to be able to keep themselves alive. That should be the ideal to reach for. Not working yourself to death just to make ends meet, that's not living.

Priorities are all wrong.

Yes, I hope that was clear enough based on tone, but here's your confirmation that I was indeed employing sarcasm.
Dude, I don't even know anymore. A lot of people I know have revealed themselves to be very shitty in the wake of Trump.
