How can Microsoft win back your heart for XB1?

It's not about the console but the people in charge. They dont have an aboyes or yosp over there demonstrating that they care about games and gamers. Everyone at MS feels like they learnt their PR buzzwords and can't wait to leave the industry and work in a different industry. If i felt more comfortable with their leaders, i would have way less of an issue.

Or maybe they have all learnt different buzz words, Sony's just being better suited to their audience?

I have had no real problems with the X1 as there are games I want to play on it and that to me is the only reason to buy a console. I don't care if one system can play games 25% better if that system does not have the games or series that I enjoy.(I am buying a PS4 too BTW for the exact same reason...games)

For MS to win the majority of GAF over they would probably need to go 3rd party at this point.

Sell off Rare's IPs to someone who can actually make the games worth a damn. It's bad enough that I had to get the X360 for Perfect Dark XBLA. I won't be getting the XBONE, Ever.

No really, I won't get it the same way I never will get the original Xbox abomination.

If you've been following Killer Instinct, it's been getting very positive feedback from the Fighting Game enthusiasts who have got hands on with it.

I'll end up picking up an Xbox One for exclusives once it hits a low enough price for me; probably a few years down the line.

It's a shame though, because I loved my 360 and bought all my multiplats on it this gen. They pretty much lost me as an early adopter after E3.

Also, they should let Rare make platformers again.

I'm buying one for the exclusives and one for the multi-platform titles. And probably a new PC. I like games. Not console manufacturers.

One of my best friends is working on a next gen game (audio programmer), and he says the difference isn't nearly as big as the media wants it to be. I trust him over GAF warriors and sketchy articles.

Bit an obnoxious post. Several devs and insiders have also said the difference is there and up to 50%. So you don't have to trust warriors or "sketchy" (Edge is sketchy now?) articles over an audio programmer, you can go by actual developers making games for these things.

P.S, if you're dropping source titbits, the mods will want to check credibility on it, so I'd be careful on that front unless you can back it. Not saying I don't believe you, just saying you may at some point need to back it up if you're posting insider stuff.

Lets see...basically equalize Sony on anything that they have the advantage on as well as bring yearly, quality and diverse 1st party exclusives for the duration of the gen, or at least for the next few years to even get me to buy one.

To win me back they would have had to have had me as a customer in the first place. Them reversing all the dumb decisions they made, while a smart move, doesn't exactly fill me with hope, not after they've given an idea of where they want to go with gaming and it doesn't gel with what I want. Ditching Kinect would be a good move, but I can understand that I'm probably not their target audience anymore.

They had already lost my heart midway through the 360 era. I am not a big multiplayer gamer and MS insistence of putting everything behind a pay wall (especially Netflix) meant my heart was forever lost.

Since MS is keeping this pay wall in place for the X1 my hard earned dollars will be in Nintendo's (already owner of a Wii-U) and Sony (pre-ordered PS4).

I wont pay 2 subscription fees. If they made Live free I might consider picking up one down the road. But we all know that will NEVER happen.

In about four years I'll decide if I get a XB1 as my 3rd console. If MS satisfies all of the following conditions I'll gladly buy one:

-360 Live infrastructure still needs to be operational (Downloads, Online Play, User Generated Content etc.) to show that MS takes legacy support more serious than OG XBOX and GFWL.
-Non-safe, true exclusives. Right now D4 is the only game that even marginally fits this description for my tastes
-Kinectless SKU
-Smaller console redesign
-No DRM 360
-Paywall dropped for features that don't use the Live infrastructure or include games like PS+ (quantity and quality) does.

You're putting words in my mouth.

I would still have a Kinect, I'd just unplug it. I never asked for a Kinect-less version... Just to be able to unplug and play.

Xbox One will always ship with Kinect. However, it doesn't require it to function. That's up to developers. But because everyone will have one, developers are more likely to leverage it for more significance in their games and experiences than they have ever done before and will ever do on other next-gen platforms.

I dont mind the 100 dollar difference, if they Can deliver on it Then i am there for their product.

My issue is how they have changed their approach and image. They have spent the last 2-3 years on trying to become Nintendo of 2006-2008. Being even a second rate Nintendo is not bad, but •that• specific Nintendo was awful. They catered to the lowest common denominator, to sell their gimmicky piece of plastic.

The initial image of 360 in its first 2-3 years, was of a sony console with great online infrastructure. It's why so many made the switch from PlayStation to Xbox.

Is like to see a return to that, and not lame gimmicks like waving my arms to change a channel. I cannot believe that they present that as a selling point. The last few years they run Halo into the ground, the series is done, even it's creators are moving on, I think that is a clear signal that the franchise is done.

I assess it when the price comes down. Right now it's hard to justify buying one when the some of the main features (os apps) and one of the reasons why it's so expensive in the first place (kinect) I have no interest in. It's similar to the early ps3 for me. Why spend that kind of money if I have no interest in blu ray?

the amount of " they never had me!" or "nothing will make me come back!" posts in this thread are indicative of what a fucking joke this is. many of you weren't going to get an XB1 no matter what it was.

Perhaps but at least they hide it better. Plus name me one current memorable affable member of the MS team? No one even close to what yosp has become to the gaming community.

Paywall and included kinect. I don't game all that often anymore and like to load up movies or netflix more than anything. I have to pay you per year to access a pay per month feature? that's insane.

Kinect. No one wants it and it makes the box cost $100 extra. Just get rid of the damn thing and sell it separately. No one cares.

Exclusives. Enough of the dude bro shit and moneyhatting. Develop and utilize original IP from first party studios. Let whatevers left of RARE actually TRY to be old rare and stop making shovelware. And aybe this is unreasonable but I find the constant moneyhatting shit cheap.

Indies should be on board now and not next year, thats another thing.

Ken Lobb, Chris Charla, Albert Panello, Marc Whitten, Larry Hyrb, Phil Harrison. The only ones I get a "corporate suit" vibe from at all are Phil Spencer and (formerly) Don Mattrick.

And to be honest, there is nothing remotely subtle about Sony’s buzz words unless you are particularly susceptible to marketing.

“We care about gamers”
“By gamers, for gamers”
“We understand gamers”
“We are gamers”
“Gamer first”

They are just words, aimed at a very particular segment of the market with shotgun subtlety.

You don’t work at Xbox or Playstation unless you care about gaming and are a gamer. Even Mattrick, as stuck in an another era of gaming as he was, started out as a teenage game developer. Everyone at both companies cares about games there is just a very different marketing strategy going on between the two.

You ask “where is yosp at MS?” what you should be asking is “why haven’t MS sent an executive to befriend well-loved podcast stars who affect young people’s decision making, even going so far as to insert a picture of him with arms around them in their press conference – it’s realty smart marketing, they should do that?”

I'm too old to pay any attention to marketing - it's all manipulative bull.

All I look at in a console purchase is - "which games, features, control pad, accessories etc do I like better right now" and that's the console I will buy first.

They can't. They fucked me so hard last/current gen. (360 number five here) (The abomination that is now XBL dashboard)

Then considering the direction they tried to take the Xbone. They failed, did a 180 and backpedaled on all of it but the team that tried to push that shit through is still in place. Cannot and will not trust Microsoft any longer.

It will take a spectacular exclusive to bring me back and I just don't think it exists any more, the way the market is.

Well...I'd come back for a turn-based, squad-based Gears of War strategy title.

...I'll not hold my breath.

I'll come back when "Microsoft" means something in terms of actual videogame production. Right now, it doesn't mean anything. There is no defining personality that they've articulated.

So if I invest in an Xbox One, I literally have less idea what I'm going to get over the next three years in terms of a games stable, than Sony - even though Sony's starting lineup is weaker. That's ridiculous.

There are positives though:
- Sunset Overdrive's concept
- A jumpy, weird Titanfall
- Quantum Break's second video was impressive
- Kinect Sports Rivals is a quintessential sleeper hit

Negatives as I see them (aka, lack of vision):
- No consistent idea of what Xbox One games will be and aim for
(example: lots of multiplayer, lots of communication, instant switching between games, we're searching for arcadey indie games ==== 'fun has a home'. This is compared to Sony's monotone drone of We Are The Best Place To Play And By That We Mean We Have Fucking Hundreds of Indie Games.
- Nothing convincing yet on the new Xbox Live experience which should be shoved in my face by now. Show me loving videos of people using features that aren't fucking NFL.

All MS need to do to win me over is...,

-- Ditch KINECT.

-- Make the console a lot cheaper than the PS4.

-- Have a first party portfolio that rivals Sony's in terms of talent and the breadth of game that they produce. Because at the moment what they have is an embarrassment for what is a software company at heart.

-- Have a service that rivals PS Plus with free games every month and exclusive demos, discounts etc.

-- Pull back from their 'dude bro' image.

I'm probably forgetting some stuff but that's enough to be getting on with at the moment MS.

PM me when you've done all that.

*cough*

At this point, even a $300 price point wouldn't do it.

I would need to fast forward two years from now, to make sure they didn't bring back any of the BS they were originally planning. I would need a much smaller "slim" version at a $300 price point. And I would need to see some must have exclusives.

And don't accuse me of being anti-XBox. 160 X360 games so far, 10 on PS3.

MS is really messing up lately, Windows 8, RT, Phones, XB1.

The next gen looks like PC, PS4, and SteamOS for streaming PC to TV and any games ported to Linux. Such a huge change for me. I barely touched my PC this last gen, even though I bought a lot of games for it.

no Kinect, lower price and decent range of studios making good games.

in other words.. there's nothing they are going to do to win me back.

I sure enjoyed the 03-10 period when it was a good brand for gamers though and I think it's a shame sony will be back to probably 80% market control.. competition was much better for consumers.

Why so salty?, i'm on the "never get me back camp" and i just bought my fifth Xbox 360 last saturday for my son. Why is it so hard to believe people are actually dissapointed in the way MS is aproaching next gen?

For one thing, they would have to drop Kinect, and reduce the price to compare to the PS4. Another thing would be to buy, or open some more 1st party studios for AAA games (Non Kinect) this would show they are dedicated to Game development and not just pay for timed exclusives. After the last 3 years of the 360, I am a little paranoid they will start focusing on the Casuals once again.

False. I own every console, handheld, and a PC. I was going to buy an XB1 as a matter of course.

I'm not going to support a company that shits on my rights as a consumer and tells me to like it. The amount of posts saying nothing will make me come back are indicative of how shitty MS has handled their next-gen console.

Yes you're too old to fall for marketing speak so im sure the tv filled intro presser from MS must have filled you with joy.

And to dismiss yosp as just being a cynical marketer is just sad. Just because he does his job well and responds to actual users rather than through an ign ama is not cynical. Its called doing his job and loving it. Go and try and get an actual human response out of those ms execs.

what is false? I said "many of you" and not "all of you" because I recognize that generalizing 16 pages is unreasonable.
sorry if my post seems unusually volatile, been a weird morning.

Announce their next console, after a full hardware generation of the XB One, without reintroducing any of the anti-consumer DRM into the XB One or its successor.

I change my answer to this. But I will do everything I can to avoid giving MS my money this generation, realizing that I am a gamer and the system will eventually have games I want to play.

S'all good. I know you're good people. :P

Like I said, I just ignore stuff like that and pay attention to the actual substance of what is there. What games, what features and so on.

I'm not for a second suggesting that Yoshida is in any way ingenuine, I am saying sending him out to make friends with industry influencers is modern marketing 101.

It's aimed at teenagers and young men in their early twenties who desperately want bands, brands, clothes, objects, products and even corporations to identify with and define them.

I think Shuhei Yoshida is a very likable man, and genuinely so. But I am not going to base a decision on which product I buy because Sony have tried to create an association in my mind between their product and him.

If there are no games I want for PS4 at launch, then the PS4 can wait. If there are games I want from X1 at launch I will (and have pre-ordered it). None of that marketing is going to mean anything when I am playing my games.

A price drop and making it Kinect-less will help, but in reality, I've never cared for many of Microsoft's games or their systems. So...unless they were to buy Nintendo, nothing.
