How did you discover NeoGaf?

I might have told this before, but whatever. It was in 2014 after E3, when Nintendo Treehouse Live was still a new format. I really liked it and Googled some reactions for it. I stumbled upon NeoGAF thread on it, and was impressed how liked the format was in here as well. I started to read it, and then began rewatching the whole stream while reading the thread. Maybe one year well have as much fun in current Nintendo-thread as well.

Not sure. I remember GAF being namedropped a few times as the hottest gaming treehouse club at one time for all the nerds that wanted to be 'in' and hang out with industry people and insiders.

I had known about NeoGAF since I was a member of the Something Awful forums many years back. Part of being a member of Something Awful was that you were supposed to hate every other web site in existence, such as NeoGAF and Penny Arcade. It was like a sports rivalry but more retarded. At the time NeoGAF was known as the headquarters for rabid left-wing Sony fanboys, and Something Awful was filled with the too-cool-for-school cynics that made fun of the rest of the Internet and were enemies with everyone.

After being exiled from Something Awful, I eventually gave NeoGAF a try and was soon banned for not being a "good fit." But since it was reformed NeoGAF seems like a decent place to check in from time to time, especially for an old chunk of coal like me.

When the Xbox One launched I started reading threads here as a non-member. I don't know if it was from a link on gamefaqs or a google search. In any case, I found the banter interesting and ended up applying for membership and joining the site officially in 2014.

E3 2010 when the Nintendo 3DS was being covered.

I signed up two years later because I was looking for my Rogers email.

I was at this forum, Xengen, Cloudchaser, Modojo. I was this super popular poster who rose through the ranks to become a mod for a very..very short time. so anyway knowing modojo was dying they sent me and Anna Paquin.. I mean Anne Hathaway in like in a spaceship to find another gaming forum to live on. We thought that we were sent to save Modojo, but we were really sent to neogaf to repopulate etc.

From Quartertothree forums. They were always talking about this elitist, hivemind forum where everybody got banned for bullshit reasons............. checked it out and fell victim to Stockholm Syndrome :p

P.S. I like the site much better now that Samuel L. Jackson is gone.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
There was a massive amount of traffic coming to my website almost every day from this weird domain I'd never heard of called neogaf.com

In 2011 I was working for a company that had tried to block all gaming site access for its employees, but luckily gaf snuck through It was the only place I could find with good Street Fighter 4 conversation. The animated gif avatars also enticed me to stay. Im still waiting for their return.

Can't remember anymore. All I know is that I've lurked for many years before I could create an account. Didn't have a 'special' email address that was/is required to sign up.

I was but a wee lad, about two decades ago, playing my Dreamcast and taking my VMU to school as one did in those days...

I actually found it on another forum where they were taking the piss out of Resetera.

The thread title was 'the crazy world of neogaf' or something to that effect. They just hadn't changed it.

Best show on the network, Jeff and Shawn were phenomenal and the rest of the crew were always good as well, really good balance of voices (literally and figuratively)
The Heroes of the Web seems so quaint now doesn't it lol? I miss hearing Shawn's take on things.

Yeah Shawn was great. King of low brow, but also could do high brow when it came to actual game criticism. Probably made the smart move though getting into development, as I doubt he'd have lasted in the current game journo climate.

I remember someone name-dropping GAF on the Gametrailers forums back then. So I checked GAF out and lurked for years.

Yeah spot on, he was always digging the lowest lows but also achieving the highest highs, really interesting dude. It's a shame those guys never continued the Brodeo as a Skype show or some shit, it's one of the only podcatsts I really miss outside of 1up Yours. That was such a good Friday night show.

It was mentioned on an old Australian gaming forum called PlayNow which I had discovered whilst the Official Dreamcast Web Forum was down for maintenance, the latter of which was the first gaming forum I joined. I lurked for a couple of years before joining. I remember being amazed at how fast it moved compared to any forums I had previously visited.

I lurked ResetEra a lot for laughs after it constantly got shat on by 4chan. After awhile I kept seeing them refer to somewhere as "The other place". Eventually found my way here and saw how much more reasonable everyone is and not overly sensitive over every little thing. Great forum really.
