How do u guys deal with neighbors who have house parties with 20+ people and blast loud hiphop at 3am?

I had a couple of really bad experiences with my neighbors and yeah, there is really no way to fix this because the people willing to do this are not the kind of people who will take any criticism well.

Talking to HoA might work for a couple of days but soon it will be back to normal.

I went back to my old apartment one time to pick up some mail and talked to the new resident there. He said the neighbors were still loud. So yeah, moving to a better more affluent neighborhood is the only option. Suburbs with family homes with younger couple raising their kids are pretty much always quiet.
The bolded part is extremely critical. %99 of the time people who do these things don’t give a fuck about what their neighbors think of them, so talking to them, most of the time, just “gives away” your position and then when the cops show up, they know it was YOU who called.

Again though, there’s not much you can do. I will say this though - if you live in a shitty neighborhood, the cops likely don’t care about noise complaints because they’re dealing with methed out carjackers and rapes. If you live in a GOOD neighborhood, the police have less to do, so they respond to “noise compliant” calls quickly and they issue warnings, tickets, etc.

TL;DR - Move to a place where there are single family homes, not a bunch of young people packed into a small space who are high/drunk all the time.

Talk to them, then call the police, then move.

After 10 PM, if I so much as hear a dog barking, I'm doing something about it. People need to be considerate.

Definitely call the cops. Just hope you don’t live in California, because they made it so things like this aren’t enforceable by law anymore.
Things like this will vary, city to city, even within California. I called the cops on a noise complaint (I live in Northern California) and the cops showed up in force minutes later. As I said in a previous post, a lot of this depends on local policing and governance. For example, I live in an area where homeless people aren’t allowed. Ever. Anywhere. Zero exceptions. If they are found they are immediately arrested and told not to come back to that area - that’s due to local city policy. The next city over is very different.

The responses in this thread really surprise me.

I've always given a pass to this sort of shit on Fridays and Saturdays. Otherwise you would basically be saying parties should never happen, ever. Which is ridiculous. If they have the decency to not do it on a weeknight they should be left alone.

I've always wondered what sort of jackass calls the cops on a party on a Saturday night. I guess I found my answer.

I live near downtown Los Angeles. I guarantee you the noise level I deal with on a daily basis far exceeds yours my friend.

edit: also, I have no idea what a "brownstone block" is

My neighbors kid who is 17 apparently has no rules. All hours of the night people in and out of the fucking house. Last night I saw them come and go 6 times in an hour span. They would pull up park in front of my house then walk across my driveway which triggers the outdoor light and go inside. They would literally stay inside for 3 minutes then leave again. Rinse and repeat for an hour. Then came back at 5am and every time there’d 5 people getting out of the car slamming car doors with the music blaring. I hate them

If it's during the week then yeah I might make a noise complaint, but if its on the weekend I usually just let it slide within reason.

Nobody wants to be the shitty neighbor raining on peoples fun.

what's with the passive aggressive and impractical suggestions? I know this is a video game site and all, but still

Pretty much this. Go over and talk to them
In all seriousness, that's a difficult proposition these days. Actually, it's always been a difficult proposition, especially if you're dealing with people who are intoxicated.

Okay

its now 6PM and they're playing Da Baby on the PORCH at FULL VOLUME

like, u own a house, go inside and play that, why do you even have giant speakers outside?

I never understood why ppl pay mortgage/rent just to sit outside all day, you could have bought a tent and saved some money

did I mention they just moved in last week?

Time to move out, if your other neighbors have no problem with that, seems like you'll be out of luck.
I hate people playing music loud enough for their whole neighborhood, it's definitely one of the most trashy things you can do, at least top 10 right next to walking on the streets with no shirt on.

I had about 6 people having what I assume was some kind of orgy in the apartment below me bumping the bass as like 1am on a weekday. I thought about calling the cops because I didn't know the neighbor at all, but instead I went in person. One guy opened the door as the apartment lights went off and some ladies were giggling in the darkness and I asked them if they could turn down the bass because I had to work in the morning and it was shaking my apartment. They turned it off and I never had another problem.

Parody of actual AJUMP23
At my old residence when Covid hit and everything was closed I had neighbors that could not go to the bar, so they decided to bring the bar to them. Every Friday and Saturday night during the summer there were lots of cars, and drunks. One girl almost died from her drugs and alcohol, another time there was a fight in the street with the owner and the step son. Every time I called the cops. And they came and broke it up. I talked to the home owners about mutual respect and some things got better. Every now and again I would go over there and say something about the music when I could here it in my house and it was past 10pm. Some people just don't care about other people.

Get some Sony noise cancelling ear buds and sound proof the man cave. Minus 50db right there, barely an inconvenience.
