I've played this a few times since I picked it up (for free with Gamestop's deal) and I just button bash.

I'll read the book, but does anyone have any tips?

Learn the basics of fighting games, then learn guilty gear.

I tend to be very good at fighting games, actually. I've never met anyone who can beat me in any of the SNES Street Fighter games, for instance.

Ever been to a big tournament? If not, take that assumption of yours out of your head. I'm not trying to offend you or anything, but it's best if you understand what you are and aren't capable of, and how good you actually are compared to the tournament scene.

Well then I suggest you learn the basics of GG, allt he techniques and what not. The pick a character, learn how they're played effectively, then move onto combos and such.

Step 1- Memorize your control scheme, you don't wanna be stopping to think if the A button is slash or kick, or hitting one thinking its the other.

Step 2- Pick 1 character you really like and practice with them, see how to preform all of their special moves and super moves.

Step 3- When you can do any of there moves whenever you need to figure out what each move is useful for, does it hit an opponent out of the air ? maybe it just helps you dodge an attack ? Who knows, practice further to figure it out

Step 4- figure out combos' that work well, this shouldn't be too hard once you've completed step 3.

Step 5- Repeat steps 1-4 with 5 or 6 characters, find one you like the most and stick with it.

The above works with just about any fighting game. Something specific to guilty gear is the instant kill moves. You should learn how to utilize them properly, so that when you do decide to use it you don't miss with it.

I should add though, all the practice in the world won't help you beat anyone in the laggy ass online mode , especially if they pick Ky Kiske and just turltle whilst launching lighting bolts at you.

ggxx is a deep game, you got ALOT to learn. try to goto local tourneys if there are any and talk with the guys there and try to network with them, and they should help you along and make the process faster.

first pick sol badguy, second press buttons while playing sol badguy really fast doing occasional ryu/ken motions with the controller. If not playing against a good potemkin player you will win. hehe jk

Correction, you should avoid IK moves 99% of the time.
