I remember vaguely when this word first became known to me - msn messenger in the early 00s - I think I've said it about 10 times in the 20-odd years since. Usually sarcastically. Use it a lot in typing though.

Maybe in future I'll make a poll for 'Soulsbourne'...

Lol is actually an word in the dutch vocabulary.

Sometimes I'll say it in a very deadpan tone, most often when someone with a completely different sense of humor than me does/says/shows me something that they think is fucking bonkers gut stitching hilarious, and I'm not at all entertained by it, but feel the need to play along for the sake of the social contract. Second hand embarrassment and shame are real. In that case, "lawl," is acceptable.

Over texts or whatever, I never type it, because it evokes images of 15 year old girls twirling their hair and gossiping. If I find something funny, it varies between "lmao," "lmfao," or "ROFL," in ascending order for how entertained I am. That might be some regional shit or my circle of friends that led to that quirk, I realize it's every bit as stupid as "lol," but again, my life has devolved to the point where I'm typing in depth paragraphs on a gaming forum at 2 AM explaining my usage of acronyms to a bunch of complete strangers, so whatever. Lol.

Never. It's just for the internet use, in real life you can actually indeed laugh out loud. But sadly, I see that's how many modern kids speak, "oh lol!" instead of an actual laugh is so common it's scary.

Never. I always thought it was weird. Like when someone says "That's really funny" rather than laughing.
Just write Ha!

Get to fuck! I've had some people use it at me and though I obviously know what it means I give them a look of disgust and ask them what the hell they are on about....

"Lol. You know, laugh out loud"

"So why not just laugh then. Act your fucking age you tragic bastard".

People who say 'omg' to me are verging ever closer to a smack in the mouth.

I actually use it in real life all the time. Most people realise it and make a comment.

Not many, if any. But I have used "iirc" a number of times, and once when I called in to work I accidentally said "tmo", which they had no idea what that meant which meant HR ended up contacting me the next day. I have not even played an MMO in a decade plus, and I don't play online outside MMOs, but I guess I like those two.

I've said it many times. Although I don't mean as laugh out load. It is more as like "wtf" or something similar. Weird.

it's hard to convey emotions when you don't see/hear the other person's face/voice and they can't see yours, the same sentence can mean a whole bunch of things depending on the situation. so we use these things in texting, emails and forums to make our lives easier but in real life it's not needed.
