How much has Halo 5 MP changed since release?

I'm sure there are miles worth of patch notes I could find to read through, but I'd prefer to hear what the big changes have been and how everyone feels about them.

About to jump back in.

I wasn't the biggest fan of Halo 5's multiplayer, and to be honest i kind of thought it was boring. So two nights ago i hopped back on wondering the same thing you did, hopping to find new maps and what not. I ended up just playing the same maps i played at launch, which were maps that were made in forge and looked terrible. Im not sure what has changed having been that long away, but what ever it is it cant be that drastic. I guess Firefight is a new addition, but i never got into the Warzone stuff.

They fixed the aiming....somewhat a few months after the game releases.

I don't know if they cut back on forge either, BTB being forge maps turned me off.

When I play halo 5 now it's just to play griffball.

I just play breakout cause the maps sort of feel more halo like in their setups and a lot more open.

I saw the new molten map and just said f it again as it's the same ole thing.

they added a mode they call firefight but I wouldn't call i that personally, it's just more warzone stuff imo

They really have gone to great lengths to make it better.

Granted lots of the stuff they have added should have been there atlaunch (infection, Grifball etc.) and the maps lack diversity. Almost every map has the same cookie cutter UNSC bases.

Overall though the addition of the Halo 2 BR is the best thing they have done and for me personally it makes a great deal of difference.

H5 launch + Forge maps + more gamble items = H5 basically.

Wha? They've added multiple developer made maps each month. Actually I wish they would add some Forge maps to the game outside of BTB (in their own community playlist) but they have refused to do so, so far.

They added pretty all the game modes that we're missing at launch (tweaked for H5)... Have updated weapon balance (small tweaks), weapon pick-ups have been overhauled on all the maps. Forge has received some extremely nice updates.

The base gameplay is the same except the aiming has been fixed (we'll, they've given you many options to allow you to fix it yourself, if you want).

It hasn't been perfect, but their support has been pretty damn good overall. My only issue with it is that a lot of the stuff released should have been in the game from the start.

There are any any gameplay changes. Just new addition of maps and game modes

Yep same here, I really regret buying Halo 5 digital, it would have been traded in or sold a long time ago if not. So I figured I would give it a shot this week and played a couple maps. Got bored again and uninstalled.

They tweaked a little bit of balance by changing weapon placement on maps. they also changed the color of the blue spartans so they won't blend in easily on dark maps. More balancing updates than changes with how the game plays.
Overall nothing changed and it plays the same. However, they added more options for fine tuning your aiming, but that is always up to personal preference.

Aiming options include:
Sens
- vert
- horizontal
aim accelleration
inner deadzone
outer deadzone

This isn't true at all, but okay.

BTB is entirely forge maps, but Arena and Warzone have a handful of new developer crafted maps.

As far as maps go, they added 6 new Arena maps, 3 Warzone maps and 2 Warzone Assault maps. They reintroduced/added game types (Assault, Infection, Warzone Firefight), updated enemy AI for both campaign and Warzone, as well as added score attack to campaign. There's of course a bunch of new REQs, some of which are variants of existing items, while others are brand new to Halo 5. Forge gets continually updated and is the most versitile version in the series.

The game was already extremely well balanced for mechanics as well as the weapon sandbox, so those areas have seen little to no change. They did change the weapon locations on Arena maps and changed Stronghold positions, just small tweaks like that.

They also added a bunch of control options, aim acceleration, dead zones, vertical + horizontal look sensitivity, etc...

I'd imagine if you haven't played in a while the game is going to feel really well rounded.

How so? This was my biggest issue at launch. It just didn't feel like Halo. Meanwhile, Destiny aiming felt like a Halo clone lol

Wut. Destiny feels nothing like Halo. It has the very common LT+RT twitch shooter gun play, with a very high aim assist. Hip firing is entirely ineffective. How is that anything like Halo?

The big balance issues were power weapons that were really weak getting beefed up. Plasma Caster and Hydra are now kind of obnoxious for anyone halfway decent at pulling triggers. Other than those two things: forge maps have been added to non-ranked rotations and for some reason 343i made map rotation horrible in ranked playlists by only having five or six maps left in each hopper for some reason. There are over a dozen maps, but they compound repeat maps by not having all available maps in rotation, it's so painful.

Warzone was fun initially but Firefight is awesome. There are a shit load of other changes but that is the biggest one for me.

Oh and Forge, forge is amazing, the creativity and quality of the maps that have been created are astounding.

343's map rotation choices have been questionable at best. At launch they had like 5 team slayer maps in rotation. When you create maps that are only made for a certain gametype, your spreading your content too thin. I personally like ranked slayer which has always been one of, if not the most populated playlist, but they treat it like it's just another one.

There's no dedicated objective playlist and there is no 1-flag or 1-bomb. I love the game but I don't play it for that reason. So disappointing. I'd probably still be playing were those in.

you can now choose if you want faster search times with worse connection quality or vice versa. I don't think it works though because I am from Poland and I played matches with Chile.
My biggest complain is still connection. If it is good then game is awesome.

the control settings over aiming are probably the biggest changes to how the game feels. a lot of people had issues with the launch default aiming and now you have far more control over how it functions then ever before and can alter inner and outer deadzones, aim acceleration, and x and y sensitivities.

Arena is still amazing, and we've been playing it since launch. We typically are done with a new halo multiplayer at about this time (normally as the lag gets to the point we give up), however halo 5 is the exception and I can quite easily seem me playing this until gears 4 arrives. Funnily, I viewed the resetting of ranks on a monthly basis as an negative however as time has progressed and I've changed my mind and can see that it keeps things fresh.

My only negative for arena is that I'd like to see some bigger maps, such as say blood gultch size. At the moment they are all close combat and thus not as varied as perhaps they could be. There are no vehicles in arena (e.g. ghosts), which is a real shame, I loved the change up of jumping into a vehicle in say halo 3 highground\snowbound etc.

Still minor quibbles, the multiplayer is great and remains my single biggest draw to xbox.

They also took out Assault in Arena for some reason, so all we get is slayer, strongholds, and 2 flag ctf. I loved 1 flag and wish it was in.

It went from 15 - 20 people a night on my friends list playing to 1 or 2 lol. There's more content than the barebones that it launched with.

Seriously, halo 5 multiplayer is so fucking good. Yet is let down so badly by it custodians. Pathetic excuse for BTB, no solo queuing (probably not enough players) and getting chucked in to servers hosted on the other side of the planet have killed it for me .

I don't know why they have surveys and betas, because 343 certainly don't give a flying fuck about the feedback.

They recently tweaked power weapons as well.

They also added brute plasma rifle to sandbox.

They added a matchmaking search function as well letting you tweak from balanced to focused, increasing your search time for better connections and like-ranked opponents.

The overall feel of the game hasn't changed much though from launch, which IMO is a testament to its rock solid gameplay. Additions to content have been plentiful as previous posters noted.

Personally, I haven't played any game this much since Halo 2 and am still enjoying it immensely.

Yea. I've tried multiple times to get into the game, I just couldn't.

this is just false, every single patch update made by 343 includes elemelents and changes based on comunity feedback.

if anything they listen too much.

yup, you can almost predict what focus and specific questions will be asked on the next survey based on community discussion. the next survey will undoubtedly ask about warzone firefight boss progression / balance issues --- all stemming from feedback.

No one cares about Big Team Battle, it's a bad playlist and people who cape for it should go do something else with their time

Halo 5's pretty good. Plasma Caster isn't ass anymore, weapon placement in maps are fixed. Six new Arena Maps, Warzone FF actually makes weapon REQs worth a damn because regular ass Warzone sucks, forge content and 343 actually giving a damn about Forge Creators and you've got a winner

I don't know I mean like I said they fixed it somewhat. If I were to compare two games that require aim from the hip as far as gun accuracy, I would say something like Overwatch controls better in regards to aiming than Halo 5, which all these months later probably still feels off to me. (God bless those ok with it)

But like I said, I only play Griffball when I log onto it, extremely turned off by warzone.

H5 retail was changed drastically (for the better) from the beta. The beta in H5's case was a very good thing.

The full retail H5 hasnt changed much since launch because the early beta worked most of the gameplay kinks out. Post launch support has been mostly maps and unlockable items. I wish they did inhouse, non-forge BTB maps and more natural arena maps like High Ground from H3 - also in the end, I think Warzone just sucks as a mode (FireFight is the only decent variant of the 3) - but H5's mp overall has been great.

Definitely agree about the natural setting Arena maps. And I know the faster paced gameplay because of the sprint mechanic makes for more hectic matches, but I'd love to see some bigger maps for 4v4 that result in some more methodical play. Maps like Colossus, Zanzibar, Ascension

Im glad im not the only one, because sometimes i feel like i am with Halo 5. This is coming from someone who logged 6000+ into Halo 2 and about 4000 in Halo 3. But boy has the 343i series of Halo games been rough. Sure it feels great control wise, but everything around it is dated and forgettable. Half the maps are made in forge and look unfinished and not a final product, the maps that are not made in Forge even reuse assets from each other, and the progression system feels out of place. I jumped back in a few days ago with the news of there being a big update and i still haven't seen any of it, included all the past updates leading up to this one. Such a weird structure they chose to take Halo 5.

Maybe the Halo forumula is just dated and dead for me. It needs to evolve into something more, while still remaining in the same universe. Because the world is still really interesting.

Gameplay wise not much has changed because it was perfect to begin with. Not just mechanically and feel wise, but every weapon is balanced and useful. It really delivers on you feeling like a supersolider, makes other games like Crysis series look like fucking rancid molasses.

Multiplayer is where the game really shines and they've only increased the value of the game with all of the free additions.

Campaign was a major disappointment due to 80% of the story being dedicated to underdeveloped characters and 20% to the characters you wanted the game to follow, but who are also underdeveloped - basically the writing was shit. +2manyWardenz

Changed? Not much. Value added? Boatloads. If this was the game we got at launch, would have been insane. Still a lot of quibbles with ranks, playlists and things like file browser being worked on, but the addition of warzonr firefight has added an extra hook to play. Can't wait to see if there is anything more planned. Only negative would be that there weren't dev created maps for BTB and maybe more Arena maps that weren't necessarily remakes. A lot of them play similar if not worse. So what was the point.

I am going to try out campaign attack as well. That was something big not in at launch.
