That said, would love to see more Post links to see exactly which straw finally broke the camel's back.

Yeah used to be a lot of links to posts just so I could see what happened. Now it's very rare.

To add some clarity to this - the overwhelming majority of bans these days fall into one of these categories:

1) The user that's banned has chronic infractions, so their ban isn't exactly related to a single post
2) The user that's banned posts something which needs to be...

My response from last year still stands. If someone gets taken out for a particular post, we'll list it there. A lot of times it's just a general pattern of uncorrected behavior, or an angry email or DM that makes us pull the trigger.

I'm always worried I'm one post away from a perma. I can't seem to find on here how the banning process points even work? I've had plenty of warnings and I appreciate the mods being patient with me when I'm acting a fool.

Is it total accumulative or is it yearly points on warnings? If it's total it just seems an inevitability that I'll eventually get a perma with one bad shit post.

IIRC, he was on a perm warning too. For him to do that meant the perm warning would've done nothing had he come back so it was better to just pull the plug.

100% correct, mods thought I was trying to start warring but I had 0 intention of that.

It was just light jabbing and memeing. I've played both games and own them. Sure I prefer DK a lot more but I get why folks like Astro. I also think Nintendo sucks dicks lol so the idea Id covet a very anti consumer company is funny to me.

Definitely within the realm of shutting down the thread if it was going to get people defending their preferred plastic box.

Serious question: some of the ban reasons are bangers. How much time do you spend thinking of what to write? I am guessing that as the ideas dry up, the pressure builds.

It's interesting, I don't know a single person or their post history on GAF. I used to know people based on their avatars, but people now change those weekly.

Theres a lot of console warring bans nowadays (rightfully so) which is ironic, given we are at the end of the lifecycle of the dedicated consoles model.

Maybe 12+ years ago I received a week ban and the note said "you know what you did" and I honestly did not.

Some folk just treat gaming so seriously, and never talk about actually playing a game. I like to joke about all of it, but I also talk about the games I play. I post screenshots of recent purchases. I think that's what annoys me most. At the end of the day, in the gaming area, people should at least talk about their gaming, instead of just spamming emoji's and talking sales.

Seems like regular posters get a ban warning of a week or a month before the perm drops unless you start posting cheese pizza or something I guess.

Could the text for the ban reasons give more context going forward? "ok" isn't really much to go on and if I remember right the ban page was meant to give more transparency for that process.

You are so right, the level of discourse was worse in many ways too. Everything was so political too with a huge liberal bent.

I have always worked in politics and it was exhausting not being able to escape it here. I read about video games and sports to escape politics. The developers and reviewers becoming so political is hell.
