How spoiled are people these days? (Re: Apple Press Event)

Sorry for another Apple thread, but reading through the reactions in the Presser thread is seriously depressing:

- Apple announces new iPhones with the best resolution ever, best internals, best iPhone camera ever, bigger size (which everyone asked for), thinnest iPhones ever, with the best battery performance ever, and upgrades 32/64GB to 64/128GB

"lol we already knew this was coming"
"boring"
"apple tax, etc."

- Apple announces a new way to pay with iPhones that will likely change the way the majority of the population pays for transactions daily, making it more secure/private and way faster

"wow NFC so impressive we already have this"
"more like pay Apple right"

- Apple announces a new smart watch with awesome UI / software that's never been seen on a watch, and tons of customization on looks

"ugly"
"overpriced"
"nobody wants this"

- U2, one of the biggest bands in the world, who hasn't released an album in years, is not only announcing a new album, but giving it away FOR FREE to everyone INSTANTANEOUSLY

"lol who cares about U2 anymore"
"no thanks, can I get free iTunes credit instead"

10 years ago, having a huge band announce the first album in years and then give it away for free would be unheard of! And you get to hear it immediately on this incredibly thin and amazing phone! Or your watch?! And no one appreciates it. Every press conference, if Apple doesn't announce something on the level of the original iPhone that completely revolutionized an entire industry, the conference "sucked" and Apple "can't innovate anymore" and "Steve Jobs would had never allowed this".

I know it's the internet and all, but get a grip people?

Welcome to the internet.

Not spoiled, just cynical and prone to responding to things in the most knee-jerk, reactionary way possible.

That's certainly a more charitable interpretation. Also the equating of "what I want" with "what others want/what will actually sell."

U2 might have been relevant then too.
On the real though, Apple set up these expectations themselves. You reap what you sow by having this cult following who puts you on such an unreasonably high pedestal. What more can you expect but people to nitpick when it doesn't reach these insane expectations.

Pessimism is the règle du jeu on the internet. Couple that with the intense hatred Apple conjours up in people...what else would you expect, honestly?

Blame Apple. they revolutionized both the smartphone and tablet industry, yet have been playing catchup and making small iterations since the iphone 4s. They pretty much set the expectations that they're not meeting.

I think it's an overreaction to the positive overreaction these announcements usually get (same for most anything with a rabid fanbase anyway).

The only reason this matters is because it means new episodes of U Talkin' U2 to Me.

Happens with every product ever announced.

Nothing will ever compare to the Xbox One announcement though, the hate there reached insane levels (but pretty deserved).

Thanks for the free U2, Apple.

But the rest of it? It is not spoiled, they are expensive products. And people have their opinions on them. Not much new announced except the long-rumored watch which really did not excite many after they saw it.

facts

edit: leaks for weeks, apple huge profit margins for weak specs, NPC everywhere in europe already, apple gets a cut for apple pay

I don't see how people are in the wrong here.

To be fair, who cares about U2 nowadays

A lot of people. They are one of the most popular bands in music history. Even if you hate them, a lot of people clearly like them (look at their concert attendance numbers, they are insane).

I totally get people NOT liking U2, but people acting like it isn't a big deal that their new album is free, or that it will hurt Apple's sales because U2 is apart of the announcement lol.

Some people even complain about the complainers.

Well, Apple has stagnated. They haven't really made a way for new people to pay as Apple is gradually losing their piece of the pie. Apple hasn't done anything new. They're Blizzard Entertainment: refinement but nothing new.
