tl;dr
It's fair to say that this fairly well captures the first moment I put the headset on in the tutorial space.
focus issues notwithstanding.

Final Approach is a great game for giant scale things in your face, and tiny scale things in 3D depth flying around. I haven't found another video game with those qualities
So I managed to clear enough space to make a 10'x17' square, but this would put the base stations almost 20 feet apart. I've seen videos of developers tracking flawlessly in spaces significantly larger than the recommended maximum (like that Hover Junkers video in the big warehouse room), but I've also heard of glitches getting above 16 feet or so. Is this something that the link cable could help eliminate?

Isn't that a bit limited? Considering you're supposed to mount them high up, that basically means they need mounting directly above a power socket - which isn't good because that's where the live cable probably goes.
Yup. Fortunately, I had power sockets right below. I wonder if anyone needed to extend them
Only thing you can do is make sure the headset is on tight to begin with.
Make sure the back cradles the bottom of your scalp, so as much weight is shifted off the front as possible, and then tighten the velcro straps until it's not moving when you shake your head.
It'll still shift though, because... physics.
After careful consideration and research I have decided to preorder the HTC Vive. For the longest time I've been on Team Oculus but recent events lead me to believe that I was betting on the wrong horse.
I feel as if Oculus has dropped the ball on many areas including piss poor community/developer support and no plans to support room scale is also a disappointment.
I believe that both headsets are fantastic and that both companies will likely do things the other one is not but as of right now I am a bit more excited for the HTC Vive.
I don't have the most room space (maybe 6.5x7 give or take but it's at least enough to get a taste of the experience of room scale so it's better then nothing at all.
There are a lot of Vive exclusives that I am absolutely excited to try out and for the time being I will keep my Oculus order (June preorder date) just in case.

I remembered now one more interesting thing from last night. After playing Audioshield, as I was a bit tired I put on Apollo 11 VR to chill a bit. I sat on my couch outside of the room-scale area. After the take off, once the space ship was in space I just got up from the couch and walk like 2 steps in front. The sensation of walking out of the spaceship out into nothingness was a bit crazy.
At this point I'm hoping not to receive my shipping notice for another week as I will be abroad for a little while. Having it attempted delivered the day after leaving would be the worst...

The only VR I've ever experienced was some gimmicky thing at a Dave & Buster's back in the 90s. I can also count the number of 3D movies I've seen on one hand, and I've never played a game in stereoscopic 3D. Good luck, visual system!

Oh Wednesday? I could've sworn it was at the latest Monday. It feels like ages ago I saw you post about it. Time really moves in slow motion when you're waiting for something (checking my gmail every other minute doesn't help).
Tell me about it! I took today off from work and have basically been doing nothing but sitting around listening for the door and posting.

I can't even use the Rift because it would probably cause me to miss the door!

Oh dear, the things we have to go through!
On wednesday, I was terrified of doing anything because I'd miss the fedex guy. Started waiting around 9 am, when they first start making deliveries. By about 3 pm, I needed to pee so badly but I was afraid I'd miss the guy. Finally I decided I was being silly and went to the bathroom. And immediately after I started peeing, the doorbell rang. I had to, erm, finish up and run to the door as fast as I could. And when I got to the door, the fed ex guy was already walking back to his truck, I had to stop him from leaving.
I would have been destroyed if I had missed my package due to urination.

lol, I know how you feel. I'm getting my (kickstarter) rift tomorrow but am 10x more excited for my Vive. Website issues kept my order from going through until :15 though which means it hasn't even shipped yet. I'm checking my email like 4x an hour just praying to Gaben for a shipment confirmation.

Estimate was for Monday but it's actually arriving today. 24-hour delivery, not bad...
I'm not exaggerating when I say I've been basically using the Vive non-stop since I got it. It's hard to pull myself away to eat or post online or bath or... anything really. I haven't been so engrossed in something in a long long time.
Finally. Enjoy it!
