Oh man... this is going to be ugly :(

Stay safe, Mexicans!

Also, the Nino area looking hot as fuck

Starting to look more like a turn than a wobble. Could make landfall further southeast than expected. No sign of any real weakening yet either. And it will have to weaken by almost 50mph not to make landfall as a Cat 5.

The only saving grace is that it won't hit a large population zone, sucks for the people affected but it seems total affected will be pretty low considering...either way hope everyone is prepared and stays safe.

The way that thing is moving boggles my mind.

Yikes, moving more to the right makes it look like it might hit Manzanillo head on.

I was watching the news earlier and they said there was gonna be ton of rain here (san antonio, tx) and w the pressure coming down the east coast (at sea not land) looks like it would push rain our way. Maybe I'm just too high but I was wondering if that pressure would push the hurricane to the right as well given the model shown on tv.

I looked up some models now online and noticed the pressure moving southe along the coast but don't have a long enough time frame to see how it impacts further south.

Crazy hurricane, hope people find a way to stay safe.

So much for the ISS camera. It was supposed to fly over the storm but their camera kept switching off at the worst time, plus it was too bright. Really disappointing.

At 880 millibars of barometric pressure in the eye, it's officially the most intense tropical cyclone recorded in the Western Hemisphere (the record is 870 millibars for Typhoon Tip in the Pacific in 1979).

1,800 dead. Jesus christ.

Hopefully the increases in communication technology will make this one a lot less deadly

Well... considering this post...

I am very worried for the poor people, that kind of hurricane on an third world
country is a bad mix. Just in Colima there are more than 200,000 people living on this kind of "houses" :

Specially located near the coast , surely they will be blow away. Army has been evacuating the area since yesterday , hope the people go to refugees.

OMG :(

My family lives in Michoacan, just slightly to to south where the hurricane will hit... They have got rain, but I know it can get worst.

I was living in Guadalajara before moving to the US, if I was still there, I will be leaving work early, getting ice bags and some canned food. It can be really awful when there are storms in the city (power outages, flooded streets, falling trees), and with a storm this strong, it's going to be ugly.

It was 880 on the final pass the recon plane made before it had to return to base, but it was deepening on every pass before that so it could well have gotten down to 870 or deeper but we'll never know.

This is both very fascinating and very horrifying; Mother Nature can be a scary beast. For anyone who's near or even far away from the projected area of impact, please stay safe.

Damn, I have lots of friends in Jalisco :( I hope they and all the people are as safe as they can.

I remember hurricane Alex here in Monterrey a few years ago, shit went crazy and it wasn't as dangerous as Patricia :/

Stay strong Jalisco, México is going to support you in all ways after this is over.

Yeah. But judging from the image it seems it has weakened just a bit now.

Yes, cloud tops have warmed slightly, it has probably peaked but the structure still looks very impressive. We'll know soon when recon gets there.

One thing I noticed is that the exact position it is right now, is where the waters are least hot according to satellite data. Probably that helped weakening it before hitting the land.

Hi there. I'm in Guadalajara, very close to Puerto Vallarta where they expect the most damage. We are in the "calm before the storm" right now, it's raining lightly but the news are saying the worst part will come around 6-7 PM. My thoughts to everyone in Vallarta and places nearby.

Get the fuck out of htere

Hurricane Patricia is indeed a monster. It has to be the fastest intensification of any storm in history. Patricia is also approaching the theoretical limits for a hurricane.

I just hope everyone who is in the path was evacuated in time before the storm makes landfall.

Oh yes, Alex did a number to Monterrey, didn't have water and electricity for like a week. Stay safe.
