Hyper Light Drifter |OT| We On A HyperLight Beam

YAY!
Took down the West boss. (My 3rd)

BOO!
Just got stuck, quite a ways into a South dungeon, with a single bar of health in a bullet hell room. Sucks. Respawning before a room, without the health and ammo you originally entered that room with, is annoying. Especially when enemies, you took out, respawn. I know... "Get good!"

Fast travel home, and try again.

How long before a Ps Vita release? I'd love to play this game on it.

They said fall, at the earliest.

Also, It's sad seeing how little attention the console release is getting. They really need a publisher to promote the game. It's one of the best games of the year

Yeah there's definitely not much excitement over the console release, it's even reflected in this thread. It's one of my favorites this year too.

(PS4 vers) Wow, played a bunch yesterday night and I must say that it is absolutely fantastic. I am blown away by how much detail there is and everything about the game feels just right.
I didn't know you could achieve that kind of quality using the gamemaker engine. It feels kind of like what I wished a Beyond Oasis/Secret of Mana/Zelda - inspired game would be like back on PSone. Obviously, Alundra existed but never quite addicted me that much. I love thw Out of this World - esque cutscenes and the visual interactions, it fits perfectly... Oh and the music is terrific.

Captivating, fun, intriguing... Bravo! I can't wait to get back to it tonight.

Yeah I'm getting a Beyond Oasis (Story of Thor here in the UK) vibe from it. It's a really great game with amazing aesthetics. Looking forward to playing more when I get home from work.

Unfortunately, many console players will take one look at the pixel art style and not even give it a chance, they are only interested in whizz-bang triple A releases, although there are people like me, who are a little older who will give anything a try, I am a PC gamer trapped in a console gamers world!

Do the console platforms ever do sales figures?, that would make interesting reading, shame they don't do charts on the storefronts, they do "popular" lists, but that doesn't really offer much insight.

I don't think that's fair at all. There's a ton of indie games released on consoles. They wouldn't be released if there wasn't a market for them.

I picked this up last night, can't wait to start, been really interested since I saw it on steam, but man, I hate playing games on my PC.

Ventured east a bit, then went north. Got 3 of the 4 triangles, decided to go east again, found 2, sorta stuck, lol. Having a blast but it can be frustrating running in circles and having to take out mobs of enemies again and again without any reward.

Maybe, but it's all guesswork without seeing sales figures I guess.

did a little digging, and the figures in 2015 seem to point to between 5x and 100x more sales on PC compared to console , for a highly rated, well marketed game.

I didn't say that there wouldn't be more sales on PC, I think that's fairly obvious, just that there is still a healthy market for indies on consoles.

In the end, I just hope that games like Hyper Light Drifter do well. There's clearly been a lot of care and attention put into this game. From both an art and mechanics perspective.

Sony shows top downloaded titles but it would be nice if they separated download only games from big releases.
I was actually cry hyped for this game but performance issues scared me off, I've had bad experiences with indie games performing poorly and taking a while to be fixed (see galak z) or even Broforce (although this game was still not good IMO based off gameplay alone)
Say what you will about aaa games but with the big budgets they are USUALLY quicker to fix the performance issues

Just Cause 3 says hello!

It is a legitimate thing to be concerned about, Indie games, especially those that use Unity, do have a history of performance issues, but Hyper light drifter seems to play very well on the PS4.

I'm almost done with the game but I still can't consistently chain dash.

Performance wise this game is good but it slows down very noticeably once there are too many enemies on screen.

Just realized you are on my friends list but I the performance is fine on the PS4 definitely nothing like Broforce which got ridiculous at times especially for the type of game that is.

Wait I am? What's your PSN?
I'm glad that the performance is good on ps4, although it it's cheaper on Xbox I might get it on taht all things being equal.

One thing I've noticed is that even for a highly anticipated Indie game a staggered release hurts momentum usually, small sample size but I remember steam world heist which is an excellent game had some decent hype after dig but with the staggered release lots of people didn't even know it launched on ps4, or look at oxen free another game got some press around release on Xbox didn't have that great sales came to ps4 and was gone like a fart in the wind, lastly stealth inc very highly touted (to me at least I loved mark of the ninja) another early access staggered release plus the tiny text on ps4 made it difficult to play, again you could have missed the fact it was even released.

With so many games, and those with huge marketing budgets you really have to play your cards right to make an impact IMO and waiting months and months when the zeitgeist has moved on can make things difficult. I know that developing for multiple consoles is costly and there are exceptions to every rule (rocket league) but it's hard to make it in this market

PSN is Rammel29, but I hear you on the release dates even this game flew under the radar on its release not sure if it was intentional but this didn't even get any marketing on the PSN blog to get noticed, I am sure it isn't cheap to get that marketing.

Probably a stupid question, but what are the grey squares here?

http://imgur.com/a/z19Xm

I spoke to some NPC and then my map opened and they started appearing.

These are power nodes, I believe they allow you to access certain areas on the map and activate modules which are those purple glyph like symbols. When the Drifter pulls that power node out of the ground that is when you activated it. When they are grayed out that means you already accessed it.

a. I beat the game on NG+ and still can't properly chain more than four or five times with a controller.

b. Felt that way on PC too.

This is an awesome game but surprisingly hard at times. As several have said, I also can't get the timing down to chain dash; my record in the chain dash room is still like ~40 :(

The timing ramps up and then flattens to a steady 240 beats per minute. It goes

"X......... X...... X... X... X... X... X... etc...

Just beat the east boss, took me four tries, although I had literally no health left. Currently got 5/8 nodes so will get back to exploring later.

Anyone taking any cool screenshots? I'd like to make a wallpaper gallery for my computer.

The east boss is probably the best boss to beat first because you get access to that awesome shotgun.

But I have been taking some screenshots, maybe I will get around to posting some this weekend.

Just got a 1110 drifting streak. That's going in my proudest gaming moments list.

Absolutely loving this game.

When I reached 172 I was fucking proud lol. Did you use a controller? Cause I might try a keyboard and mouse if it works on ps4 cause using a controller is difficult af

Played for about an hour and beat the first (North) boss.

Holy shit, I just want to talk about how much I'm in love with this game. The art direction, the feel, the mechanics, the world design. I'm still to early to say what I think because it's just going to be a splurge of how much I love it.

The intro is incredible. I can't wait to spend all tomorrow with this game.

Some pics I took from my playthrough, plus the profile background you get from Steam

When I played last night I struggled so much with the north boss. Just beat him with ease on my first attempt. Funny how that works. Now to try brave the west.

Edit: also two bosses down and still no trophy? What gives

Whew, that took a while

But it was worth it! It's actually false though, you don't need the black cape for it, the reward for completing horde mode, the only thing I haven't done yet. I doubt I will, always die in the later waves.

Am I right in thinking I can't progress to the boss in the West until I find three of the diamond piece things? I can't seem to find any of them :(

Edit: just found the one on the furthest right.
