Hyper Light Drifter |OT| We On A HyperLight Beam

Beat the North and East boss this morning and started tackling a little bit of the western area. So far I really love it probably one of my favorite games this year I don't want it to end.

Does this game have couch co-op on PS4, and if so how does it work?

Do you control two characters, or 1 character and 1 helper, and if one of the characters dies, do you both have to restart or can one revive the other?

Yep there's co-op. I believe the second character arrives or resurrects at the cost of a portion of player1's health, and if player1 dies, you reload the checkpoint. Everything still revolves around player1, player2 is just kind of extra.

Worked great from what I played.

Chain dash is the only upgrade that's required for some of the (hidden) gearbits and other items. So get that asap. The charge slash is also very useful, as are the bombs. I found having two bombs helped a lot to clear out rooms with a lot of enemies, or at least thin the herd. Once you have the shotgun, it's also useful to buy the ammo upgrade, since that's pretty much the best gun along with the sniper rifle.

The upgrade allowing you to dash through projectiles is also useful, as is deflecting projectiles with your sword.

I may be in the minority on this, but I found the bombs to be the best upgrade overall, because there are a lot of rooms where the enemies are already packed together, and you can clear like 5 at once with it. Only downside is the long cooldown, which is why I got 2 as well :)

Thanks a lot for the tips. I appreciate it!

Taking out huge clusters of enemies with the bombs is pretty rad.

I bought an upgrade last night and I have no idea what it does, or what it's called. The upgrade system is quite vague.

In order to do it, I have to press square then X (on ps4). It's obviously related to the dash in some way.

As someone who pledged $100 to this kickstarter, I have to say that this game is my dream come true. Living up to all the hype that my mind has mustered up and that's damn impressive on the game's part. Well done, HeartMachine.

If anyone is on the edge, I'd say jump in. I hope they can make a sequel!

Well I got it for PS4, just about to start.

I've wanted this game for so long, but was against buying it because of how hard I've heard it is. But I bought the soundtrack months ago and have literally listened to it non stop since. The act style is too gorgeous to miss.

I might not ever finish the game, but I have to at least experience it.

Also, no dynamic PS4 theme? Come on! It would look soooo good. I hope one comes out soon.

That is great to read I unfortunately can't say that I was a backer but had I been aware of this game at the time the kickstarter campaign started, I would I definitely backed this.

I was nervous about this too but so far the difficulty seems perfect for me. Challenging but fair and there is plenty of health packs to find in the game so you are almost never without one. Also helps that the checkpoints are pretty forgiving.

Am I the only one who cannot successfully pull off a chain dash? Everytime I get at least one, it's from dumb luck. And there's a trial for this? Sheesh.

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm dumb. Just figured it out. Still tough though.

Knocked out East, North and West yesterday. Working on the South now.

Absolutely loving this game, definitely one of my favorites this year. Playing on Xbox One and haven't noticed any issues either. Highly recommend it if you're on the edge. Just buy it already!

Yeah, but I kinda like that it's tough. It takes a good amount of skill to get it consistently for long distances and also maneuver around correctly. It would've been lame if it was just regular tap tap tap of the button.

I'm about two hours-ish in on X1. Really adoring this game so far. Man does it get hard though, not all that unfair though. Just got to a boss
It is the Crow that sacrifices a Crow virgin as you enter the area. Who taught Crows magic?

Also having trouble with the chain dash.

Sweet - should work nicely between the two of us then as long as the second character can actually help out, even if it isn't the main actions. Fighting enemies/bosses and finding items would probably be all we need.

I know I am going to have a tough time with this game, what direction should I go first which'll be easiest on me?

I went east to start and didn't have too much difficulty (and I'm not particularly great at this sort of game), though I didn't try the other areas first to compare difficulty.

I found the enemies and general navigation in the north a lot easier than the east, but the boss in east is way easier than the north.

I haven't tried West yet.

I did do the north second though so I would have had more practice, and I had a grenade, and a shotgun..

Can anyone point me in the direction of the 3rd node in the east section? I literally have no idea how to get to it. I'm itching to take on my first boss.

You've got to go underground, if It's one of the ones I'm thinking of
. I'm stuck on the 4th one in that area.

Also, a question: Are the areas designed to be tackled in one go? I've run into several places in the East that I have no idea how to get around and I'm assuming I'll need upgrades, but will I need upgrades to get the triangles?

It's been a while but I think with the exception of a couple pieces, it's possible to fight each boss without any upgrades.

Let me clarify, it is necessary to get bonus pieces. I call them bonus since it takes only 4 to fight the boss and 8 to complete the area.

Started this morning, I have no idea what I am doing, which I assume is by design, do I just go in any direction and figure it out as I go?

A lot of people went West first since the game highlighted that area first but it's entirely up to you. There's nothing stopping you from going West, East, or North.

I'm glad to see so many people here enjoying the game. Definitely my GOTY so far.

I started in the west area. I suspect this was an error in judgement.

I did this on PC at launch. It's very difficult to start our heading west, but it's doable and I beat the game before the patch made it easier. Guessing that you'll be able to finish it as well but I wouldn't recommend it.

This. I completely missed the highlighting of the West.

I didn't see any highlighting either!

Does it first run East? I forgot about that. I could have sworn there was a dog sighting at the beginning of each direction. Or maybe it was further along in the path.

Maybe because I just naturally headed East it appeared, I assume there is no difficulty penalty on either direction?, no direction particularly harder or easier than another?

Played the co-op mode for a bit with friends yesterday and it's fun... We started a new game and rushed through the east section + boss. Game's definitely easier in co-op, but I like how you have to sacrifice 1hp to revive your partner.

I keep returning to the game, and on my save I'm 15ish gearbits away from 100%, and a few outfits.

I am really looking forward to digging into this game, but am debating which console to grab it for. Does anyone know if it runs better on one than the other, or should I base it on which controller I prefer more? Do both versions have co-op?

(PS4 vers) Wow, played a bunch yesterday night and I must say that it is absolutely fantastic. I am blown away by how much detail there is and everything about the game feels just right.
I didn't know you could achieve that kind of quality using the gamemaker engine. It feels kind of like what I wished a Beyond Oasis/Secret of Mana/Zelda - inspired game would be like back on PSone. Obviously, Alundra existed but never quite addicted me that much. I love thw Out of this World - esque cutscenes and the visual interactions, it fits perfectly... Oh and the music is terrific.

Captivating, fun, intriguing... Bravo! I can't wait to get back to it tonight.

Screw this games auto-save.

I beat west boss, let the game sit for 5 minutes, thinking it would save.. I then hit continue game, only to be brought back to the start of the boss fight, very annoying, time wasted. Now I have to do it all over again, wasn't easy for me to begin with.

I think co-op is a great way to play this game, works really well.

I guess it would be which controller you prefer I have the PS4 versions and it seems to run pretty well. According to some impressions in the thread the X1 versions seems fine too and yes both version have couch co-op.

The fuck, this is on sale on XBL for $15 this weekend...I just bought it for $20 on Tuesday. Do you think I could call to get an adjustment?

I beat this on PC and greatly greatly enjoyed it, but I don't really think I'm going to purchase it again for PS4.

Was anything new added for the console versions?

Gave it a run (PS4 version, 32" TV). Only run through the East side so far, no stutter or anything. Runs smooth.

On the actual game, loving it. The art and music are superb and I really love exploring around, the one boss I fought was great too. Can't wait to play more.

I went east as well first because I was just exploring, I got stuck at first because I wasn't sure what I was suppose to be doing lol. I will say I now have a general sense of what you are suppose to do in each area but I still not sure what's The Drifters motive.

I don't think there was anything new, just a straight port to consoles.

Everyday I learn something new about this game. Just realized the drone gives you a visual clue when invisible platforms are near.

And what are those nodes on the map that come up everytime you meet another drifter? Haven't figured that out yet.

EDIT: Annnddd I just figured those out too.

Really digging this game!
I started East, then North, then West.
I was kind of surprised to run into the North boss, only having 3 diamonds, and doubly surprised when I took him down in 4 attempts! For some reason, the East boss took me forever. Probably still getting used to the controls, at that point.

Progress: 11/?? diamonds, 2/? bosses

How is the performance on the PS4?

Thinking about double dipping to support the devs, just hoping it performs well. Played it on PC and got pretty far but didn't finish. To those thinking the game is too hard and are hesitant, it really isn't. It can be challenging at times, but it never stops being fun.

Also, It's sad seeing how little attention the console release is getting. They really need a publisher to promote the game. It's one of the best games of the year
