Hyper Light Drifter |OT| We On A HyperLight Beam

Played for a little more than an hour. Very early into the game, but really enjoying it so far. Still have no idea of what's going on, though. I hope I'm smart enough to actually figure it out, haha. It's definitely interesting, I'll pay as much attention as I can in order to uncover this world's secrets.

I love the pacing of the combat, can't wait to fight my first boss.

If there is, I hope it's not fundamental to uncovering the game's story, not really my cup of tea >_<

I think I got all of the ones I could so far, but it still seems like upgrades are a bit too pricy. Maybe I'm underestimating this game's length, but it seems like you'll need a few rounds of NG+ to get all of them. Assuming we carry our skills to NG+ in the first place.

By the way, does anybody know if NG+ is harder?

You played less than an hour and you think upgrades are too expensive and are already making assumptions about how many you can get? :o

And I thought the game didnt have NG+?

They don't? That's kinda disappointing. I was hoping the warp points would work as bonfires :P

I thought they did too but I just tested it and my medicine didn't restock. It seems like it's possible to accidentally trigger a boss fight with very little medicine on hand. Bad news.

That medicine upgrade seems especially useless if you can't farm it.

The
football
minigame is like a boss battle in itself! Goddamn.
Don't bother hitting the ball, just kick it with a dash. Why is the other person the only one able to tackle?!

Game crashes when I enter my name and hit the enter key... Doesn't seem to be a very common issue and the only "fix" (changing CreateTexturesOnDemand in the options file) doesn't work for me. Waiting on a dev response to it

Oh, it doesn't? I thought for sure I saw someone mentioning it, my bad then.

When I say too expensive, I don't mean it as a complaint, just that it seems like you'll have to choose carefully, I'm totally ok with it :P

Wait, so enemies do respawn, they just don't drop anything? That's a bit better.

Sorry if I gave that impression. As far as I can tell, enemies do not respawn. Once picked up, medicine is apparently gone for good. So it looks like there's a hard limit on the amount of medicine you can pick up in a single playthrough.

I hope someone tells me I'm wrong,.

Its just weird to me you played less than an hour and are making these assumptions. I played 45mins and for the most part I have no clue what is going on with the systems yet, how long it is, how many dungeons there are etc.

Yeah, its smooth as butter when windowed.... is this the game's problem then or are there some tricks to maybe getting this running smooth in full screen that I'm overlooking?

THANK YOU. Was making me queasy as hell, I can deal with windowed until there's a better fix.

Question about the west area

Trying to get the gem slightly north of the warp point. There is one red door in the first area that I can't unlock, but also no idea where this gem is, any help?

Is there any renewable method to getting more medicine? Can't farm enemies since they apparently don't respawn and the medicine that you pick up is gone for good.

G-Sync!

You could try using a third party app to run as a borderless window?
Both meds and enemies respawn. Not sure if it's distance or time based. And I recommend searching carefully, there is quite the amount of hidden meds in boxes, behind walls, through thin gaps, etc

100% - no idea why people are saying they don't. I've seen both back in places I've already explored but like you said, don't know what the mechanism is for making the respawns happen.

If you go just east of town it's quite easy to grab a couple medpaks easily enough, if stuff up north isn't respawned yet.

I mean, I could shut up, but it's inevitable that you'll speculate about this kind of stuff while playing, right?

That's too bad. seems like a good enough game that most people will be able to overlook it though,

I found it to be surprisingly responsive for a 30fps game, I was really impressed with that, for what it's worth.

Just tried it and medicine pickups respawn when you teleport back to a waypoint

Sure...when you are like 4-5 hours in, gotten a few upgrades and gotten a sense of how far you are / have done, not less than 1 hour in in my opinion :p

Just thought it was strange is all

2 things:

1. This game takes FOREVER to boot up. I even installed it on my SSD

2. Steam overlay works but screenshots aren't working for me which sucks.

Whew, just finished my second boss.
Wicked Frog of the East
is down. Took a few less tries than the
Bastard Bird of the North
, though I only just scraped through on my most recent go; I was sure I killed him, but I died too. So I trudge back up to his lair expecting to start the fight again, but he's just lying there in a pile of
gold chips
.

Tell you what though, one thing in this game that can fuck right off is attacks that do two damage but also throw you off a ledge, taking an additional one damage. You might as well just kill yourself and start over when that happens.

I'm not sure since it happened to me that only a couple of medicines and monsters respawned in the same area while going back and forth searching for a passage. Maybe it was a bug.

What's the best upgrade/item to get with my first 3 coin things?

I tend to go with mobility upgrades first in most games. While I *love* darting around with the reduced cooldown, taking the blink upgrade first was probably a mistake. It's not as useful as other upgrades in most situations.

Yeah it feels fine. the frame rate isn't really a deal breaker for me.

Thats what im thinking. Also in theory it helps you get more upgrade currency, I've already seen a place where I need some sort of dash upgrade to get a "coin"

Edit: although extra health seems super useful, I didnt see that in the village

I just bought this one because there's a few coin pieces I think that require this skill, but I can't get it to activate consistently. What's the trick to making it work?

just dug into this for a bit after getting my KS key

holy shit, this is SO good.

well worth the wait, what a game! love the atmosphere and gameplay

The rate you have to tap the dash button increases for the first few dashes. Start slower and speed up.

I think the vendor with the health pack slots is slightly east and then north of the area with the other two vendors. IIRC.

So how's the game so far, guys?

It's pretty rad.

North boss is kicking my ass all around town, tips?

I had a hell of a time beating him, but my advice would be to not overuse dash. I started out just flailing on the dash button, but careful directional movement is actually all you need for most of the fight. Only dash when you won't have time to run from a hazard.

I see a bunch of people complaining about the first boss.

I really don't get why, it took me 3 tries and it
respawns you with full health kits even. Just learn the pattern and adapt. You'd think this was like killing the Vanguard in Demon's Souls as the first boss you have to beat. Pretty well designed imo

...did I mess up? I went north and the first boss is a big
eagle cultist
and it sure isn't giving me full health kits

For those that are 2-3 bosses in, how much played time do you have, and have you been exploring?

There are health kits hidden on the way up to him and if you have 3 when you walk up then you get 3 back when you die. That's how it worked for me

What happens if you walk into a boss battle with no spare medicine and 1 or 2 health bars? I assume you're screwed.

Here's hoping you can teleport back home if that happens.
North boss is kicking my ass all around town, tips?

I only seriously focused my attacks on the boss when he teleported to the center and spawned dudes. He's too hard to damage at other times.

Also, I feel like he gets easier in the second phase since his attacks are easier to predict. Maybe I just got lucky.

Having beaten the
North and East
bosses, Steam is reporting 5 hours. I definitely haven't been rushing through either, I've spent a fair amount of time checking for hidden rooms and whatnot. Only thing I haven't done is revisited older areas
that I've now got keys for
.

That sounds about right for a 8-10 hour game people are assuming it is, also assuming its 4 areas / bosses.

Lots of assumptions, I guess thats what happens when there arent reviews out

I'd like to add to this and say use your gun as much as possible. The small enemies should refill your clip

How many keys you got? After North and West, I still only have 1. Not done exploring West though.

I''m getting a display driver error whenever I try to boot on my Surface Pro 3. Anyone else have this problem or know what the deal is? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no dice.
