Hyper Light Drifter |OT| We On A HyperLight Beam

the map sucks I did the western part last night, the first part I did and I got lost so many times.. I can't even read the map that well.. and I went to these monolith things I dunno what they did..

I like that the game doesn't hold your hand but I have no idea wtf I'm doing in regards to thjose monoliths.. I got 2 of them.. I wish it said how many were there, no idea what they do...

Downloading this now.

Please God be good. Please.

I spent like 20 tries on the West boss, quit in frustration, watched the CS:GO match then came back and beat it in one try, adds and all. It's just that kind of game

You need to pay more attention. And what they do can be somewhat assumed if you are
watching the cutscenes
.

West boss is the sword dude, right?

What I found out is you can
kite him around and use his sword slash and make him attack his minions in the crystals before he un-crystallize them. Makes the fight much much more manageable.

Yes, this is what I did.

and done. Last boss was a pain in the ass but then on the kill I only used 1 medkit lol.

steam says 6 hours, its probbaly closer to 7 (it said 6 hours earlier also when I was still finishing the south), and I didnt get most secrets (in fact near the end I wasnt exploring much, I already had alot of upgrades and the upgrades dont do much tbh so I lost the motivation to get more near the end)

great game, wish it was longer. It needed a zelda style dark world second half or something, I dunno. But then again I put a lot of emphasys on lenght these days, probably more than I should but when money's tight, you kinda grow new priorities. Still, dont regret buying it, and whats there I absolutely loved.

I love the movement possibilities with the multi-dash and the custom combinations you can pull off by gun-cancelling your melee attacks. I wish there were more bosses to fight, I think other than the art and music that's where the game excels. The new game+ option where most everything one-shots you just isn't doing it for me as a substitute for that.

I agree with the people that have said the exploration side of the game is a bit of a drag. I don't find it very fun or interesting to mash the character into walls while toggling back and forth between map layers to find obscured pathways.

I just beat the game, but it froze on me during the credits scene. After booting the game back up I'm able to jump into NG+, so clearly my progress saved. If I hit continue game then it loads me before the final boss.

Question: should I jump into NG+ now to collect the items that I missed or should I load my save before the final boss, collect everything I want to collect, and then beat the final boss again to start NG+?

Any enlightenment would be appreciated.

I think the difficulty discussions are really interesting. I consider myself to be pretty bad at videogames, I never play games on hard, and I'm pretty much never on the top of leaderboards of shooters or getting multi-kills in MOBA's. But I never really have that much problem with Souls games or really with this game. I die plenty of times, but I rarely find it frustrating to just try again with different tactics until I get it right. Especially with these games where a high apm or exact precision isn't needed. Run up get a hit in, dash back, shoot, rinse and repeat until enemy is dead. Trying different tactics and trying to learn the pattern until you get it right. It reminds me a little of trying to learn to play the piano, I get a small section and practice it and then try the next section. The bosses do not act randomly, they have clear phases which you have to get down what technique you will use to beat them and then try to execute it.

Oh shit yes you can buffer the charge sword move while doing the a+X dash. So good on bigger enemies and on swarms.

Really? Damn.

Hell yeah you can. It's super useful against the
big green chaingun guys
later on, intentionally whiff to the side so you don't trigger the bounce-back and you can get in, deal huge damage and get out fairly safely.

Also for those with a steam controller, binding X+A to its own button makes triggering the dash slash upgrade way more reliable. Sped up my combat big time when I figured that out.

I apparently have a blank space in my weapon list. What's the second weapon when looking at upgrades at the weapon shop? The one just to the right of the starter pistol.

I just beat the game. I really liked it, but have so many questions!

I kept wondering why the doors with 4 pieces wouldn't let me inside. Turns out it's because I can't see and there are really 8-pieces on some doors. In the south area 5 pieces were marked on the map. I got all of them. I also got the 4 pieces marked on the map in the other three areas. So do I need to do a new game plus to get the rest of the pieces, or are they just very well hidden?

Second, where are the keys!? I somehow managed to go the entire game without finding one key. I saw in a video that they're on dead bodies? Does this only happen in new game + or am I just not observant?

You can get everything in a single game. New game plus only makes the game harder.

Not sure if posted but apparently there are some one on gamefaqs trying to rally a ps4 boycott because Anita S and Zoe Q are thanked in the game. Man, imagine being that petty.
Who still gives a fuck about gamefaqs? It's like the myspace of gaming forums. Actually, more like geocities. This is what boredom does to you, looking for the weakest shit to get outraged about cause you ain't playing the game.

Ordered according to their position in the 3x2 weapon grid:
Pistol /
Super Shotgun
/
Railgun
Magnum
/
Shotgun
/
Super Railgun

You get the
super variants
from the
8-key dungeons
in the
south and east
.

Three freezes today within 20 minutes. Much worse than yesterday.

Froze before finishing a boss. I'm done until next patch.

had no problems at all. Just putting this out there so some people dont think this is a general issue

I didn't have any issues until I beat the game. Froze during the credits, and it sounds like at least one other person here had that issue. GOG version for me.

Would appreciate any insight into NG+ from my post a few above this!

Nothing carries over, it's hard mode. You start with the movement and sword upgrades,
and a natty black cape that limits you to two life blocks and can't be removed.

I had no issues with freezing or crashing in 16 hours, steam version here.

Hahahha I spent like an hour on that fucking awful cheating son of a bitch
soccer minigame
and when you finally beat him you don't even get anything. Fuck me

I recall people saying that your upgrades carry over but you only have 2 hit points

Thanks to both of you! I'll likely go and collect whatever I want in my current game...not sure if I want to tackle NG+ yet.

I'm likely going to post something more substantial once I gather my thoughts, but I enjoyed this game more than anything I've played this year....and last year.

I think that the map/collectible tracking could use some work, especially the underground sections. I also wish that when you died you started with a full health bar. There were several occasions in my game where I ran into an area with one blip of health and had to perfect a room or two to move on. It inflated the difficulty a bit artificially and made for a few frustrating encounters. Minor quips aside though, the game shattered my admittedly high expectations. Really top notch all around.

Had a crash/fatal error earlier on the steam version during a cutscene, wasn't a big deal because I started in the same spot but still annoying.

Beat the
east side boss
on first attempt too, he seemed pretty easy.

Wanted to see if the soundtrack was in the steam folder, and it is. Also super cool that a bunch of images/files related to the levels are available to look at.

Been getting a few freezes and crashes, but so far it's never happened during a fight. Each time has been after I changed rooms and twice when I opened a map right after changing rooms. Annoying, but the game autosaves enough that it hasn't really interfered with my enjoyment so far

Is there a problem with Steam achievements in this game?
It just gave me one for collecting all the gearbits, but it didn't even complete a set of 4 and I still need 5 more pieces to get every upgrade...

Finished. Managed to get all upgrades minus the ammo upgrades. I looked through the levels pretty well as I played them yet I only found three keys in the end. Got close to 8 pieces in a few wings but never managed to do it. I would have gone back to 100% it but the useless map will make too much of a chore.

I *loved* the game and I'm very glad I backed it. Easily some of the best ARPG combat ever.

I'm torn between what I'd like to see the devs do next: A brand new game or spend the time to bump HLD up to 60 FPS.

By the way you do NOT go back to the game after finishing it to clear up collectables like someone said the other day. It drops you in the main menu and when you continue you are in the room before the last boss

So I am in the East. Got three diamond pieces so I'm trying to head to the boss. Apparently I'm supposed to go south of the warp thing but directly to the south is still blocked off by... blocks.

Where do I go to get rid of the blocks?
