I buy a Nintendo system for Nintendo games.

This thought came to me after the Switch 2 launch title sizes got revealed, and seeing the couple of new Nintendo games there compared to all the third party stuff & rereleases running on Game Key Cards and whatever else.

It's cool that the Switch 2 can run CP2077, and Street Fighter 6, and Hitman 3 and all that other stuff- it makes a great benchmark to compare the console's power against other systems. but be real with me here. Who here's actually going to play those Switch 2 ports over what they have on their PS5?

I'm sure there are some people who will use the Switch 2 as their main gaming platform. But that's not what I get a Switch for. Nobody's getting this console to play GTA, COD, Hitman, and Assassin's creed.
We want Zelda. We want Mario. We want Smash. All that other stuff is mostly fluff because at the end of the day people only put up with the console to play the Nintendo games. Stop showing off all that 3rd party junk and get to the meat of the system- the exclusives.

I just hope that Nintendo has a bigger first party showing in coming months because 450 to play Cyberpunk again isn't a good look honestly

It's cool that I can take these games with me pretty much anywhere. It has that added value.

I agree, 1st Party and 3rd Party Exclusive.
It's why you buy any platform.

If I do buy a Nintendo console, it'll obviously be for Nintendo games cause I got a PC for everything else since besides Nintendo, everything else either launches on PC or is a timed exclusive.

Thats cool but if i could have bought cyberpunk on the switch I wouldn't have needed to get it on XBOX. If Eldenring was on switch I would have never bought it for PS5.

Switch 2 means I am not purchasing third parties on the other consoles for sure.

But also because I usually buy those games for PC anyway. :messenger_open_mouth:

The switch has been used as a 3rd party and first party console for me and the switch 2 will be the same. I have more 3rd part games then I do Nintendo games.

Same. I pretty much only buy 1st party Nintendo games on Nintendo consoles. I'd rather play the indie stuff and everything else on PC. I will sometimes buy collections like Street Fighter Anniversary Collection or indie games I really love just to have a portable option even though 99% of the time, I will never use it. I just like the idea.

I have some third party games and a lot of indie games on Switch. Gonna get more 3rd party games on S2, because they look less compromised prob harry potter.

Shit i buy indie games on my switch 1 and 3rd party too, imma buy cyber punk2077 and street fighter 6 so now i can whoop ass on the go lets goo

Is this your first Nintendo console launch?

Launch lineup for switch was literally just Zelda and 1-2 switch.

Launch lineup for 3DS was pilot wings and nintenddogs.

Launch lineup for the Wii U was Nintendo land and another new super Mario Brothers.

N64 was pilot wings and Mario.

GameCube actually had a historically strong launch lineup, comparatively. So clearly launch line ups mean nothing in regards to console success, long-term.

Given all of the other content coming along with the switch 2 launch, such as the GameCube Classics platform, and other things, their first party lineup is actually pretty solid this time around.

same..

I'd say 80% of the reason is that and the random JRPG that might come along by some 3rd party lol

TGO TGO same.

As someone that owns Switch 1, a gaming PC, PS5 etc, I have zero reason to buy the worst version of a game on Switch as it makes zero sense.

Switch 2 will just be for first party games and random 3rd party JRPG type games.

They are releasing 7 first party games in 7 months.

We pretty much already know the first party line up to the end of 2025. We don't know the third party line up for thst time period yet though.

I play some indies that look just as good as they do on PS5 or PC. Hollow Knight, Dead Cells (this should finally have stable 60fps), Hades... pretty much 2D metroidvanias or roguelikes.

But yes, it's mostly a 1st party/exclusives machine for me.

While I am looking forward to that fzero looking racing game and MKW, being able to play third party games like cyberpunk anywhere in the house or on the go is certainly a driving factor for me.

Me. Switch was my favorite system of all time so it's a no-brainer for me to prefer Switch 2. I only buy PS5 games that are exclusive, or if I want a physical game that is only on PS5 and Series X. If I want a digital game that isn't on Switch I'll get it on Series X if possible.

Unless the Switch/2 port is absolutely unplayable, I'll get my multiplats there, since I value portability over all else. Plus, I appreciate games that don't have trophies or achievements.

of course. I'd buy 3rd party stuff if I thought I was interested AND I thought it was going to be a good port or an original game done with love.

I love how they release a console without a major release like Mario and the hardcore fans are actually celebrating it like it's a good thing for them because Nintendo is still making money.

I'll be playing games like Cyberpunk and Kunitsu-gami on my Switch 2 alongside Mario Kart and DK, just as I played stuff like Sniper Elite and Ori on my Switch 1.

There's plenty of first party stuff on the way; just in the system's first 7 months it's getting the aforementioned two plus Metroid Prime 4, Kirby Air Riders, Pokémon Legends ZA, Drag x Drive, Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment... not at all a bad lineup, plus there's probably more in early 2026 to round out its first year that hasn't been announced yet.

Some of those ports, I will buy for Switch 2. I travel a lot, so I really value being able to hook my switch up to TVs when I'm out and about.

My criteria for buying a game on the Switch vs PS5/PC boils down to a few things:

Is the performance much worse on the Switch? The most common difference is 30 vs 60, and if the Switch is stuck at 30, I'll buy the game for another platform. But if the Switch version runs at a fluid 60 (but maybe just doesn't look at nice), that's fine with me.

Secondly, I value having multiplayer games on my Switch, since I bring it to family and friends gatherings. I'm getting SF6 for Switch 2 for this very reason.

And finally, if it's a game that I REALLY love on a different console, I may just double-dip on the Switch, just to have it always at arm's reach. A good example will be Eldin Ring. Even though I'd rather play that on PS5/PC, I'll definitely buy it for Switch 2 even at 30fps, just because I love that game so much.

And just as an aside, I buy almost all of my indie games on the Switch, because they typically run just as well as a PS5. And while I lament the lack of 4K, that won't be as much of an issue with the Switch 2.

Side note, I also buy all of my games digitally, because (again) I travel a lot, and I value the convenience of having access to everything all the time.

switch 2 is not for me, expensive hardware, sf6 in 540p or something, $80 for games whose technological expression is not worth it
It's another spirit in the consumer market.

? i mean, wait a minute isn't Mario Kart releasing at launch or?

same here but i won't buy a Switch 2 until there's a new LOZ title developed on Switch 2 hardware

but i do not buy 3rd party titles on switch 1 because they are more expensive and does not have trophies/achievements

i will buy some titles like YSX Proud Nordics version if they are not timed exclusive and contains all DLC from YSX Nordics

Most of us here do... Doesn't mean many casual players do, I've seen several already on internet and IRL that has Switch as main or sole gaming machine.

I did so for Switch 1, btw, but I'll use Switch 2 for two more types of games additionally:
1. Online multiplayers (I don't want to install anti-cheats on my PC)
2. Games that I intend to play on local multiplayer, like fighting games (I'm looking at you, SF6)

IIRC Nintendo's breakdowns show the split of first to third party software sales on Switch is around 50:50.

My own collection is 22 first party games to 38 third party games.

I have like 130+ games on the Switch, a huge majority being 3rd party games, even cloud ones. I intend to continue this, as I bought my PS5 to compensate the lack of some 3rd party games.

The majority will be buying the Switch 2 for Mario Kart and Donkey Kong. Not Cyberpunk.

Nintendo consoles are first-party driven platforms that is platforms whose penetration is driven early on mainly by first-party games.
Third-party games though are important to guanratee variety and quantity.
In fact on Switch 1 over 50% of the games sold (excluding digital-only games) are third-party games however in the early years Nintendo first-party games had the majority of sales.

What I mean by this is that both Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Metroid Prime 4 NS2E, Kirby Air Raiders etc. and Cyberpunk 2077, Street Fighter 6, Elden Ring, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Hades II, Civilization VII etc. are welcomed.

I bet all Nintendo first-party tentpole releases will come in full in a physical cart, the same won't be true for every third-party game.

I have PS5 for mutiplatform games, I buy Nintendo systems for both Nintendo games and exclusive third party games like Triangle Strategy.

I have something like 30 or 40 games on Switch 1 and the only first party are the two Metroids and Xeno X.

First party sucks. Third party rules.

Same, which makes Switch 2 an easy skip for me for a couple years until the 1st party catalogue gets better. Also don't want to get burned on stick drift in the joycons again.
3rd party games that already came out years ago and will be cheaper, look and play better on every other platform is not a good selling point for this system.

For us maybe its not intended for 3rd party. But for some other, that's an option to play in the go. And not all knows steamdeck or such. It's all about option. we are free to choose.
