I buy a Nintendo system for Nintendo games.

I only ever play Nintendo games on Nintendo systems

But since Nintendo makes the best games imo that means lots of games per system anyway for me

Personally I never have time to "play on the go". If i'm not home, I'm not playing video games. That simple.
The ONLY reason I ever bought portables was because there were games locked up on those systems. Got a GBA so I could play Castlevania, Megaman Zero and some jrpgs, same reason I got a DS and 3DS, for exclusive games. I had no reason to ever use my Switch in portable mode, its actually super uncomfortable in portable mode too, the ergonomics are terrible plus its too bulky.

Nobody's getting this console to play GTA, COD, Hitman, and Assassin's creed.
We want Zelda. We want Mario. We want Smash. All that other stuff is mostly fluff because at the end of the day people only put up with the console to play the Nintendo games. Stop showing off all that 3rd party junk and get to the meat of the system- the exclusives.

Finally someone who is honest.

Switch was essential for Nintendo games but once I already had it, its potential to consolidate so many games in a tiny space as custom ready versions without Windows made me kinda giddy. The drawback of course was the poor power, so it had large gaps that still necessitated a console or PC. Even if it falls behind competing consoles again in power, Switch 2 GREATLY alleviates the issue.

Not gonna lie. I will buy a lot of Nintendo carts but will only play a lot of third party games on it if it can be hacked to load up with games I already bought elsewhere. Maybe if a game is new and really good I'll buy a few of those trash keycards.

I barely play Nintendo first party on the switch outside of fire emblem, Mario, switch sports, metroid, and Zelda.

I play a ton of indies, older shooters, wrpgs/jrpgs. I love the portability and it's lighter and more pocket able than my steam deck.

I recently finished suikoden on it and am playing lunar silver star story, inerfernax, dark star one as well as star overdrive.

Occasionally I pop in a 2d Mario game and play a level or two, but unless a new one comes out switch is for 3rd party mostly for me.

I am concerned about Nintendos output. Will they be able to release as many games? Underpowered meant they had shorter dev time.

No 3d mario game at launch, no sale.

Let see if ones released before the oled cash grab comes out

Increasing development times is definitely going to be an issue for Nintendo. But I expect them to offset that be increasing their portfolio of external partners and their on investments in internal expansion.

So their general trend of publishing 1 game per month is likely to continue.

WHY?
Because 3rd party game run/looks better on Xbox/PlayStation or PC?

What if the Nintendo system was as capable as Xbox/PlayStation or PC, would you still only play Nintendo game on it?

That's how it always been for me. I play mainly on PC so why would I want to play anything on a Nintendo system other than Nintendo games?

Didn't have an issue with Switch and surely won't have an issue with Switch 2. Good luck to everyone that will have the Switch as their main platform though

Yes, think that is the most obvious reason.

eh.....maybe, but that probably is never going to be the case as long as Nintendo sticks to handhelds.

The number of games that will push the PS5 to its limits is relatively small. Only the biggest, most expensive new games have that type of budget.

Tons of games will run just as well on Switch 2 as they do on the PS5 Pro. For those, Switch 2 offers an advantage of portability at no tradeoff (aside from trophy support).

For others, there is the tradeoff In choosing portability versus a performance or graphical boost. Both options have advantages.

Same, which makes Switch 2 an easy skip for me for a couple years until the 1st party catalogue gets better. Also don't want to get burned on stick drift in the joycons again.
3rd party games that already came out years ago and will be cheaper, look and play better on every other platform is not a good selling point for this system.
What about mariokart world?

I never understood where the idea came from that you can't play third-party games on Nintendo consoles, as if that were some sort of absurd notion. This nonsense really started gaining traction after Sony entered the gaming market. Let's not pretend — throughout history, there were many times when Sony consoles actually had inferior third-party versions of games, especially during the PS1 and PS2 eras. Yet even then, their users didn't really care; they still bought and enjoyed those games. This whole mindset seems more like a forum-driven, herd mentality that a lot of impressionable people ended up following. Thankfully, most Nintendo Switch owners didn't fall into that way of thinking — otherwise, the Switch might have ended up like the Wii U.

The only reason to own any console. Everything else if on PC I will buy for unless the port is terrible then I will buy the best console version. For Nintendo I stopped buying Mario, Kirby and Yoshi products because they are constantly being shoveled up and are not that interesting anymore.

If Nintendo think I'm going to rebuy a bunch of games that I already have purchased on PC and can play on my Steam deck at any time (but I wouldn't becuase so many of these games are not well suited to handheld play), then they must be joking.

I'll most likely get a switch 2 once the Nintendo 1st party lineup is sizable and there's an oled version.

Cool, but I never understand why people like you always want to tell to other people how they buy their games and systems.

I mean, you like Nintendo systems for Nintendo games? Good. And?

There are people who like to play third-party games on Switch or Switch 2. Also good. And?

We don't really need a thread about it. There are multiple ways to enjoy games on multiple systems and everyone has their reasons to make a choice or another.

Also: the first-party line-up is already strong.

🤷🏼‍♂️. that's has been the case since the Wii.

this is why SW2 either is going to "kill" the PC handheld market or make it stronger at its own expense

I buy Nintendo consoles for the Amiga games. My feelings of disappointment are chronic and never-ending.

So basically yelling to everybody who wants to hear it that you pirate games. Fantastic !

I love what I saw of Mario Kart World and the new Donkey Kong, but it isn't enough currently. I am looking forward to Metroid Prime 4 as well and still need to pick up Xenoblade Chronicles X (but both are playable on original Switch obviously). And I need to see if Nintendo is going to continue with their $80 price tag for their first party games. I'm not going to support that move. Wait and see is the best approach for me, I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything important in the short term, nothing screams "must have" to me.

That Fromsoft game WOULD have been the title to push me over the edge, but since they made it completely for online only, I completely lost interest.

This thought came to me after the Switch 2 launch title sizes got revealed, and seeing the couple of new Nintendo games there compared to all the third party stuff & rereleases running on Game Key Cards and whatever else.

It's cool that the Switch 2 can run CP2077, and Street Fighter 6, and Hitman 3 and all that other stuff- it makes a great benchmark to compare the console's power against other systems. but be real with me here. Who here's actually going to play those Switch 2 ports over what they have on their PS5?

I'm sure there are some people who will use the Switch 2 as their main gaming platform. But that's not what I get a Switch for. Nobody's getting this console to play GTA, COD, Hitman, and Assassin's creed.

I just hope that Nintendo has a bigger first party showing in coming months because 450 to play Cyberpunk again isn't a good look honestly

Agreed. Who the fuck buys a switch to play 3rd party games? Sony, Microsoft, and Steam have a product for you on those.

People played on ps1 and ps2 instead of n64/gamecube due to lack of 3rd party support because Nintendo didn't have a CD rom on either console (gamecube wasnt dvd). This limited games. Especially jrpgs and during the ps1 motion video. Which at the time was new and better than it was on sega/Tg16 CD.

People could get resident evil on both but only one console had final fantasy 7, metal gear solid, tomb raider, legacy of kain, sotn, mega man legends series, and a megaton of awesome jrpgs.

So you had to choose, super expensive games, Mario and Zelda, Mario cart and a handful of subpar 3rd party games or new awesome unique 3d games along with 1000s of 3rd party games. This continued on the ps2. Nintendo is to blame for its own mess with 3rd parties. Let's not even mention their shitty exclusivity practices during the nes/snes period.

Nintendo got back partially during the wii period but fumbled the ball during the wii u. Which is a shame as it was a cool system with an unfortunate name.

Yes. I play these games on emulator for free. Do you have any problem with that? Nice. Im happy for you xD

Now lets see what you can do about it.

Feels like Resident Evil 4 on NGC was the last time I bought third-party on Nintendo, but that generation of NGC / PS2 / Xbox was great and felt like the last time you could freely buy third-party on everything and not care. I owned and was playing all the Crash games, Mortal Kombat games, Budokai Tenkaichi and Simpsons Hit and Run / Road Rage on all of those platforms. Tech changed all of that after that generation.

I couldn't care less. I want to consolidate my purchases as much as I can on one console, and I'm not getting Nintendo software LEGALLY anywhere else. I'm gonna be playing Madden in August. 😁

yes good synopsis and N64 carts were expensive. While PS1 was as you said. NIntendo went disc with GC (albeit limited in capacity) and had decent or good 3rd party support initially. But XBox debuted and took the 3rd party support away from Nintendo. The GC became the odd man out. There wasn't room for 3 doing roughly the same thing.

That's when they changed up and released the Wii. IT was big enough as you pointed out so 3rd parties were back for Wii U launch. But Wii U didn't get the casual crowd and the Gamepad(tethered handheld) made the console $100 more expensive than it could have been and was an odd sell to those already buying the 3ds (handheld) and also odd sell to the casuals who bought Wii.

No way man. You've got to spend more so you can see all the stock UE5 ray tracing effects and upscaling smears in the next Gender Slop VIII

I don't have anything to do about it, but I think your attitude sucks. Trying a couple games is not the same as admitting you have been actively pirating games for several generations. Even if it is Nintendo, at some point, if you keep pirating games and emulating these consoles, they have to be worth some of your money.

The last few gens have been primarily about Nintendo (and a few 3rd party) exclusives on its platforms. Let's no pretend that that trend will continue, based on what we now know about portability.

Old ports should be seen as indicators of portability, new multiplats will be a large part of the ecosystem going forward though.

Nintedo consoles are a first party console or exclusives. Almost zero interest in anything else- and the perfect #2 to me.

Before Steam Deck game out, I was playing every available third party game on the Switch, despite having a solid gaming PC. Playing portable is just so much more convenient. Knowing that I still can take my games with me whenever I leave the house (holidays, business trip/events, etc.) is what motivates me to start any new game in the first place. Without that, I probably wouldn't even touch new games. I don't have time to play games at home.
So no, without having the Deck, I would pretty much continue to buy Nintendo's handhelds for third party games.
