I don't "get" TLOU

Game was okay. All that goty stuff was embarrassing.

Granted it's not bad, and you should probably finish it before forming your opinion. It's not even long.

Kinda this. IMO the appeal of it seems fairly obvious, great production values (graphics, voice acting, atmosphere, etc) tied to pretty solid gameplay, just like Uncharted. I can also see why some people wouldn't be that impressed by it though, especially the people who are all about gameplay first.

Some people aren't gameplay first? RIP gaming snakesalute.webm

I thought the story and graphics were good, but the game play wasn't too memorable. It definitely wasn't GOTY (and definitely not GOTG) tier for me, but I don't think it was a bad game.

Great story, atmosphere and graphics.

Rote gameplay that never grows. Very few enemy varieties, specific scenarios that seem to repeat a lot and really empty environments that tease you to explore but has barely anything to find. After you meet the first bloater I thought "neat!" and thought we would see imaginative and varied enemies but that was the last new enemy type. Left Behind at least let you have the two sides fight against each other.

I bum rushed and meleed every non clicker in the game, and then just walked reallllyyyy slowly when clickers and such were about. Once you learn how to exploit it, it becomes easy, even on Hard.

One of the most overrated games of all time.

I beat the game. By the end, it was my GOTG.

People like different things, just because some like it doesnt mean you SHOULD like it. I mean your favorite game could be "Mary-Kate and Ashly's Sweet 16 Kart Racing" game but im not gonna make a thread asking why that isnt my favorite game. Do you follow me?

For you its gonna be another game for others its gonna be their favorite game. Thats gaming life bro. Dont let it get to you.

Because it's overrated. I thought the gameplay was Uncharted with a few tweaks, and i get so annoyed when people keep saying it has the best story in the past gen. It's basically Children of Men.

OP, that's how I felt about a third of the way through. I could see that the game was obviously well made but it wasn't clicking. A few hours later I was absolutely hooked and by the time the game was over I was declaring it Game of the Generation (and still do). You are right on the verge if awesomeness.

I don't like it either. Too much focus on cinematics and a narrative I didn't care for instead of tight, skill-based gameplay.

Seriously, this comic is apt. It's okay, dude. There's nothing to "understand" if you don't like it. You don't have to like it.

I wish it were this easy in some other threads. You can't just say you dislike anime cause then people find it impossible and incomprehensible

I think this game needs to be played on Hard without using Listen mode. It's a great game, but if you don't like it, you don't like it. I really like Joel and Ellie's journey, if not for the gameplay itself, I would atleast finish it to see how their story develops. But if the story, graphics and gameplay don't do it for you, then yeah, I guess you'll just have to walk away.

I don't get confused if I don't like a game other people like, I just play another one.

Yeah, I don't dwell on games I can't appreciate. Keep it moving. OP, the game simply wasn't for you. I really don't care that you didn't like it, even though I thought it was fantastic. I can't appreciate Mario games, is what it is, the games are still generally great. You don't have to like anything.

If you don't like it, you don't like. You don't need to "get" anything.

I am sure there are plenty of "GOTY" choices and nominees I would find to be attrocious, but that is just the nature of things.

As for The Last of Us? I found it to be an absolutely engaging experience from start to finish, gameplay felt good and the character interaction was just fantastic.

I was meh about it until the last 3rd of the game. Once the controls and mechanics become muscle memory, you become quite unstoppable, and the game became amazing then. Bottom line though, is that you might just not like it and that's fine.

Help me, GAF! Help me understand why everyone is pissing themselves over TLOU coming to PS4. Help me give a shit enough to maybe pick it up and go through it a second time. Because as it is right now, I couldn't care less about the Remastered Edition, and I may not even finish the PS3 edition.

If you gave the game a genuine fair shot and you simply don't like it, then I don't know what you think GAF can do to "help" you.

I'm with you OP. The game portion isn't that interesting to me. Its a lot of repetitive collecting and then some so so shooting. The story and acting just weren't enough to keep me going. Even when I was playing I felt like I couldn't play it for more than an hour at a time.

I should note that I played all 3 UC games and I got most of the trophies in them as well.

To each his own. The story itself wasn't groundbreaking but the way it was told and presented was. At least for me and countless others it was.

Embarrassing because of who? Gamers or media?

Because the game was critically acclaimed and considered GOTY across the board.

If you aren't enjoying it, you aren't enjoying it. It's not one of the types of games where it'll click after a while, although I do think the second half is better than the first half.

If you read this you already have been spoiled, don't lie to yourself, admit it

You probably just suffer from a case of bad taste.

That's cool op. I thought it was a great game. Finished it twice and will probably buy the PS4 version once that is released.

I don't want to say you're "playing it wrong," because saying that automatically means it's a badly designed game if there's a "wrong" way to play it, but I've noticed the trend of those that absolutely loved it(myself included) played through it on hard mode with listen mode disabled on their first playthrough. The gameplay can get incredibly intense(partly due to the amazing sound design and OST, great and brutal animations, etc.), especially on the hard and expert difficulties. It feels fucking amazing when you have a human shield, one bullet left, and you line up the perfect headshot, just to snap the neck of the guy you're holding so you can run into cover and time you run to a brick on the other side of the room.

Obviously I like this game. But it's cool if you don't like it. The gameplay mechanics are solid. Are they groundbreaking? Hell no. But when you mix in the presentation, the entire package is just outstanding. Maybe you need to play with some headphones on or something, could be something as atmosphere. Or you just don't like it. It's cool.

The game is more engaging on higher difficulties. On Normal it's a cakewalk and kinda boring cause you can just blow everyone away with little strategy or tension.

I loved it, you on the other hand didn't that is alright. Opinions are welcome and everyone will embrace you for speaking freely.

I will now prepare to washed in the fires of hell for what I will type next.

I don't like Smash Bros.

Love you GAF...

It's okay, Citizen Kane isn't for everyone either.

Citizen Kane is also a bit overated imo (Still a great movie though). It's noteworthy for what they managed to do with the camera (that scene where the kid is playing outside is really good) and production side of things, but I didn't find the story (ie: what I'm watching the movie for if I'm an ordinary person) all the special.

Same, I wasn't impressed at all by TLOU. I found the supposed "Oscar-worthy story" was a typical zombie plot that's been a done a billion times before with all the usual cliches and the gameplay was clunky and boring.

I'm not sure I've ever disliked a universally praised game as much as TLOU.

The PS3 was my most played system last gen and I have a PS4, Vita and PS+, yet I have never played this game or any Uncharted other than the Vita one. Guess it's a combination of being sick of zombie stuff and having an aversion to any game that requires precision aiming that isn't controlled using a keyboard and mouse. I have to say though the PS4 remastered version looks interesting and I'll probably be looking for something to play around the time it comes out.

Is there a demo of this?

I didn't care much for it either, OP. I mean, I like the setting and environment, and the multiplayer was cool until its flaws got on my nerves, but the gameplay just didn't do it for me.
