I don't know how to read: The Official Thread

WHO DEY!?
Hope this is not old.

To compensate, publishers can be expected to raise retail prices - even Nintendo, though it is forgoing high definition. "We'll see if we can push prices up to $59, using 'Collectors' Edition' content," George Harrison, senior vice president for marketing at Nintendo, said. This Christmas, the company will offer a special edition of its Legend of Zelda franchise at that price.

HDTV is a new reality for Game Developers, from New York Times

My comment: Nintendo should be ashamed for not supporting HDTV across the board with Revolution.

Huh?? I thought they already announced HD support?
And damn it really looks like games are going to be 60$ bext gen.. \:

Wait...what? WHAT?!

Fucking hell Nintendo, every damn generation! There's always something everyone else has gone for and Nintendo refuse to, and it ALWAYS turns out to be the mistake they have to fix the next gen. Only then they make another mistake, and so on.

God, I hope that article is just wrong. Personally it won't affect me much in the near future, I can't see how I could afford an HDTV, but NO ONE who has one is going to pick up a multiplatform game on the Revolution over the others. Even if they bother to own one.

Jesus.

Nintendo has said that they will supported HD with Revolution. They aren't raising the price on games, they are just creating packages that cost more. You'll still be able to buy games for the $50 you just won't get whatever crappy addon they have.

wow Nintendo. Weak. FUCKING WEAK! YOU READING THIS YOU FUCKING IDIOTS!!!

Just when you see Nintendo seeming to do everything right, now you have rumor of them not doing everything the other two consoles are.

If true, despite all of my previous hype for revolution, I will not by one if it doesn't fucking support HDTV on every game.. just fucking stupid. fuck Nintendo.

So Nintendo won't be offering HD games on the GCN? How is that new if the GCN doesn't support HD at all?

EDIT: Didn't read the article first but it's already been announced for the Revolution.

Yeah, continued heightening of priced worked for laserdiscs and the comic industry.

OH WAIT

Whoa whoa, wait a second. How on earth do they know that? That better not be the case...

Of course, based on the fact that they removed the digital video output from the current GC models and have made the purchase of GC component cables extremely difficult, they really do not seem to care.

That article's referring to the GC, very badly worded.

They've already said they will support HDTV with Revolution.

Games created for two next-generation consoles - the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PlayStation 3 from Sony - will display video in wide-screen high-definition format if the console is connected to a high-definition TV. Only Nintendo's entry, code-named Revolution, will not cater to HDTV's.

.

This is one missinformed thread :lol

People, Perrin Kaplan of all people confirmed HDTV support just 3 days ago. They don't change things in 3 days.

Take a chill pill.

I think some of you are missing the connection between $60 and collector's edition.

Can't be worse than fucking overpriced EA psp games.

didn't EvilLore ban someone today for a fradulent title? That's not what George Harrison is saying

How exactly is this idea any different then the current "Collecter's Edition" idea thingy that is going on right now?

Halo 2 has a collectors edition and all Harrison said is that they'll raise the price on collectors edition content.
And HD has already been confirmed. Get off of it.

Some of you are so ready for them to mess up.

Did she actually say it? I'm not sure I ever read the original article (which was in the NYT itself....wtf?), only the IGN one. And in the IGN one, it doesn't say she actually said it, could just be their own speculation.

umm.. wtf? the only place it says Nintendo isn't doing HD is specfically on Revolution. It doesn't say Gamecube anywhere in there except for talking about existing sales.

Though I agree.. how would the NYT know. well, if it does support HDTV ON EVER TITLE, I take back my rant. People here should know by now that I am a serious N-fanboy.. but if they don't do HDTV on EVERY game next-gen, you will see that fanboy die completely. no fucking excuse.

Nintendo of America's vice president of corporate affairs Perrin Kaplan describes the console as "very, very sleek." The system, which is reportedly tiny, will stand horizontally. Its width will reportedly be no more than three DVD cases stacked flatly on each other, or slightly more than an inch.

Revolution will play standard DVD media this time around. No word yet if the console will be able to play DVD movies.

It will also be able to play high-definition games and go online
.

there is a difference between saying it "can play" HD games and doing like MS and Sony and saying EVERY game will output in HD.

if this turns into a GCN where like 25% are 480p and like 2% are 16:9, I don't give a shit if it "can do" HD. I only give a shit if it is IN HD.

Is that from the NYT article with Kaplan capslock?

If so...I don't understand. Why would the same publication have such different news?

From NYTimes article from 3 days ago

Unlike GameCube, the new system will play DVD's, Ms. Kaplin said, and will feature a wireless controller. It will play GameCube games as well as a new class of high-definition games, with new emphasis on online play.

I also highly doubt a console that emphasizes hooking up to a PC monitor will forgo high-definition, but who knows, stranger things have happened. If Revolution uses an entirely different visual medium maybe 'high-definition' doesn't even apply.

Nintendo cannot foruce 3rd parites to make their games support HDTV.

So, ermmm, I'm lost.

Don't know what to think anymore. Certainly that last quote makes it sound like she said it, though I guess without a direct quote we can't be sure it's not NYT speculation. Only the more recent article contradicts it.

They were written by different people though.

Yes they can, MS are.

As for the thread title, nintendo try to raise game prices next gen, it's ridicilous. This is collector edition games with extra content. It's been this for a long time already.

Ulairi said:

Of course they can, just like MS can force developers to do the same. Where have you been since, umm, consoles existed?

NY times has no source for their statement that Revolution wont play games for HDTV. No Nintendo quotes, nothing. Sounds like speculation to me.

umm.. sure they can. the same way MS is, the same way MS really made everyone this gen do 480p, and the same way it sounds like Sony is doing for PS3. They have to get a license from Nintendo to make the game, so Nintendo can include anything in their they want.

And if Nintendo isn't forcing companies to do 1080i (or 720p, though I would NEED to upgrade my TV then) then I am saying fuck nintendo. I've had HDTV (actually content) for over three years now. At this point I Can honestly say I am not investing in another console that doesn't support HD. I have HD network TV, HD movie channels, HD upconverted DVDs, and HD media player on my XBox.. to by a video game system in 2006 that doesn't do HD.. fuck that.

here is to hoping this was just wrong.

How do you go from that phrase to your title.

No where does it even say increased prices of Nintendo games next gen.

Seems like someone wanted to do a little damage control here. It worked.

I remember paying £70 for Turok when the N64 released. YES SEVENTY POUNDS!

FUCK YOU NINTENDO >_<
Nintendo didn't force you to buy the game, did they? And did you ever think it was the store who raised the price, and not Nintendo?

Don't hate the player. Hate the game. :lol

I remember coughing up 170 dutch gulden (around 80 dollars) for Ocarina of Time... worth every penny.. :)

NYTimes might be one of the oldest newspapers in the US, but it's also one of the worst, speaking from personal experience here, their journalists are terrible compared to Washington Post or even LA Times.

I'm guessing they are referring to a HD DVD format, rather than HD resolution.

I think this dude might be on to something here, why didn't I think of that!

Uh, unless i'm completely off the mark, it sounds like games will still retail at regular price, but there will be special edition versions with additional content or packins for $10 more. What's the big deal? It's nothing new.
In fact, $59 for a special edition of a game is rather cheap! I'm used to paying $100+ for deluxe packages of some japanese games.
