God I wish America was the way it used to be, where White people ruled the land and minorities worked mostly low education and entry jobs and kept their damn mouths shut.

It just sucks so much, sniff, that I can't offend anybody anymore by saying hateful things about other people because I see myself as better than them. Sniff. It was so much better when we pretended they didn't exist unless it was for the sake of a good laugh..

Cue South Park

He doesn’t want to turn the United States into a politically correct, free-milk-and-cookies, European-style social democracy where every kid (and adult, too) gets a trophy just for showing up.

By "trophy", he means the basic necessities of life.

I'm not voting for neither one. They're both horrible choices. We got an ultra liberal and a racist conservative. Ugh I wish we had a candidate that was neutral and everyone loved. One that would stand for the American values.
Hilary sure can run the gambit.

From people saying she's basically a Republican to an ultra liberal

I consider anybody who votes for Trump a racist. This dude is one.

If I found out a friend would vote for him, it'd be a huge "fuck you" to me.

Well you have one!!

So despite being called a closet republican for months Hilary Clinton is now an ultra liberal?

Also what exactly is a neutral candidate?

Parts of White America really is freaking out that the continent is trending back toward "brown" just like it was 400 years ago.

So his main argument for voting for Trump is that hates college students and and is angry that things are really politically correct nowadays (i.e. he can't use racial slurs without being called a bigot).

This opinion piece is one of the laziest justifications I've ever seen for voting Trump.

"I pretend to dislike Donald Trump, but I'm a closet bigot and he might get my vote"
You don't have to be a bigot to vote Trump. I think that it could be fatal for anti-Trumpers to insist that all Trump voters are bigots, as it won't allow them to address the actual concerns of people who aren't racist but may be inclined to vote for Trump anyway.

It's wasted either way. There are just to far on each end of the spectrum. We need a neutral candidate.

Well, granted the choices aren't to your preference but keep in mind that your vote is never wasted.

This is the mentality that the author and many like him are hoping for, young people don't see the need to vote....

.... Same shit brought about brexit

Cutting off the nose to spite the face is what describes these certain people. Disregarding all the horrible things Trump has said and promises to do if elected president just because of disillusionment and hatred for the future.

Fuck you silent baby boomers, you don't deserve shit.

When did it become not just OK but almost admirable to tell people you're an uninformed ignorant person and proud of it?

This new 'silent majority' is terrifying. I feel embarrassed when something I hold to be true is pointed at as being nonsense, and then I grow and learn and feel happier that I'm better for it.

If a voter is willing to find that bigotry isn't a disqualifier for office, that's something that speaks for itself. I don't know how much more plainly to state it.

They should own it.

What I want to know is where is everyone getting these participation trophies? I'm technically a millennial (granted on the older side of them) but I never got shit for losing. I played a lot of traveling sports and even some park district stuff and never got jack for anything less than second place.

I mean how can you be cool with that? Oh I like Hitler because of his economic policies and he's gonna make Germany great again!

Edit: Not saying you but referring to voters in general

When they say they hate political correctness, they mean they're OK with disparaging minorities and women, right?

Hi. I'm kind of fed up with "political correctness" and I'm two of the four letters in LGBT.

I know some of you just instantly want to toss people saying some of these things into "racist" and "X-ism" categories, but your hurry to do that is why some people are feeling the disconnect and "I can't win no matter what" attitudes they're feeling.

I'd never vote for Trump because of my problems with some of today's left-leaning social movements, but that doesn't mean I don't dislike them to certain degrees.

A vote for Trump is, at the very minimum, accepting of a level of amazingly blatant bigotry

I'm European (well for the next couple of years) and I never got a participation trophy either.

"Political correctness is silencing my speech so that's why I'm pro-Trump, the only candidate who has removing the first amendment as a campaign promise."

"Yes, almost all of Trump's staffers are straight up, actual Nazis who browse 8chan for Nazi propaganda to spread to the general public BUT-"

The participation trophy complaint is usually a pretty good sign to me a person is full of shit and is just angry in general.

why else would you be voting Trump? He has less than no platform

In other words. "I like that Donald trump expresses a similar hatred and fear of anyone who isn't a white male. It makes me feel less alone in my bigoted fuckery."

Long after trump has lost and gone back to hiding in his gaudy tower to lose money, his negative effects will live on with the millions of pieces of shit he emboldened to feel justified in their bigotry. Its such a horrible depressing shame to know he undid so much progress the US made in stamping out prejudiced attitudes.
You act as if we were close to getting rid of prejudice for good. It's always been there no matter how much progress gets made. Trump just finally got them to come out of their holes in masses and expose themselves.

Wanting to go back to a bygone era/the 60's is the new "He just tells it like it is" huh? Will people just get the balls to say what they really mean and stop treating the rest of us like we are stupid and don't get their incredibly transparent coded language.

You don't have to actively hate other races or religions maybe. But you have to not care about them, or not be able to empathize with them enought to vote for a man who wants to enact policies to harm them.

Even if you don't agree with Trump's racist policies or remarks, even if that isn't the reason you vote for him; if you do vote for him you are enabling a man to actively worsen the lives of other people just because they aren't white, straight, cis, or christian.

If you're a Trump voter you are either a bigot yourself or able to turn enough of a blindeye to abject and blatant bigotry that is effectively no difference.

Could you elaborate further, when you say you're fed up with political correctness you mean?

I really should get my Japanese permanent residency sooner rather than later.....

Doesn't matter who wins in November as far as I am concerned. The cockroaches no longer scurry away when the light comes on in the room.

I remember hearing it as a complaint all the way back to the early 90s.

It's just a variant on "kids these days sure are soft".

I'm sorry, but no. If you're willing to vote for someone like that, that means you tolerate that mindset. No excuses.

I'm a minority and the way Trump has been outwardly demonizing me and others, in the face of political correctness, is something I'm fed up with. How else am I supposed to feel? How exactly are you fed up? I don't think it's in the same vein as many others who have been targeted by Trump and his supporters.

Sometimes you cut off the nose because it can't be saved and the infection will spread. Personally, I was disappointed in Hillary's 'debt forgiveness for entrepreneurs' scheme. It's so deaf to the needs of the working class and it's also insulting to assume that the dubious possibility of ascending from the working class is attractive to members of the working class. The class problems still remain, you've simply subscribed to the delusion of neoliberal meritocracy that has, in many ways, utterly failed the working class while driving much of the middle class into the working class. In an era of massive consolidation and near monopoly and monopsony, it is the wistful thinking of yesteryear to think that small entrepreneurship will give rise to a dynamic level of competitive marketplace democracy that will somehow solve capitalism's inherent contradictions.

Although if Trump is elected, you'd see the largest unity movement imaginable opposing his proposals. In fact, it might be something that could preserve the Democratic Party a while longer.

People are different, obviously there are different opinions between minorities. It could be you just don't care as much as other people that are similar to you, that doesn't make their opinions less valid, so if they find something offensive, then it should be considered especially when doing so could be as simple as not using certain words or some inclusion.

Because the Japanese govt is a shining example......

It's really hard to not judge or at least view Trump supporters with some disdain. With all racism that seems to emanate from his campaign, to still be okay with it, you either have to be a bigot or really fucking dense. So far pretty much everyone who supports Trump either displays their stupidity and hatred for all to see, or they're like the guy who wrote this article, who is woefully ignorant or chooses to ignore certain aspects of our society and history because it's inconvenient for their world view.
