Seriously I got the need to upgraded to the best and latest in gaming…I’m never satisfied anyone In the same boat as me?
How long you've had it for? I used to always want the latest and greatest but this kind of faded out over the years. Now I'm content with good stuff for a number of years and upgrade whenever I feel like I'm missing out on key features or performance.

Take a screenshot of your last checkout from a purchase. Next time you feel the urge, just open up that picture on your phone and hit confirm. Then put your phone away and wait for the package to arrive in the mail, high off a fresh dopamine hit.

Move your excess money into equities/ETFs where you can’t access it anymore. Watch it grow then you’ll become cheap as the goal will become growing that fund. If you suck or don’t want to learn, speak to the bank about their options. More expensive fees but less work for you.

Other option is to bring cash and visually see how much money these purchases are. The move to plastic side steps this on purpose.

Not financial advice.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Don’t smoke don’t drink no drug…so lot of spare changes lol
This might be very bad advice but, if you have enough spare change to support your addiction, then go ahead and enjoy it.

I have the same problem but to a point.

For example I find the 7800x 3d is more than enough and I don’t need to upgrade the cpu

I find my rog ally is fine since I modded the drive to accept long nvme drives and I don’t care about extra battery so I am finding my self not so much wanting to upgrade and would rather wait for strix point

But I do have the feeling I want to upgrade the 4090 to 5090. But I am waiting on the temps and performance / noise before I do that . My FE with undervolting the temps don’t cross 55 and I don’t hear the fan. If the new design is an oven for example I am out

Do a bare minimum build , 2 ram slot , budget motherboard barely enough to run some i5 125w . Barely enough cpu cooler , barely enough psu for the X080 gpu .

Now you cant upgrade shit .

Throw them away every 2-3 years .

I used to have the same problem about 10 years ago
then i came to my senses and accepted that happiness isn’t tied to having the best technology all the time, so i stopped.
i had my last gaming PC for 8 years now and bought a new one just a week ago. It has a RTX4070 because fuck Nvidias pricing for the 80 and 90.

No you dont, you just like to brag.

Nah I believe it. There was a point in time where I put myself into debt doing so because it was a great feeling having 'the best'. Thankfully while I still buy higher end parts, I'm ok with them riding out a few generations now. Helps when most new games don't interest you anyways...

become poor

This also helped me to break that cycle at one point. While never poor thankfully, being tight on money wakes you up pretty fast.

This as well.. The market is absurd right now and I don't want to be part of the problem.

Is it actively causing you any harm? Can you not afford it? Do you not actually get enjoyment of it?

If any of the above are true, it's a problem. Otherwise? I dunno, I'd frame it more as a hobby than an addiction. I love upgrading my gear and tweaking my stuff and tinkering around. It's a fun pastime and if you can afford it I see no harm done.

Been there a few years ago. Along side with an urge to tweak and overclock everything. FFS, I once overclocked my monitor. :messenger_beaming:

Just focus more on the games. Go outside. Play with the dog, if you have one. Do other stuff.

You not going to want to hear it but it’s the truth. Switch to consoles….

I’ll take heat but as someone with this addiction as well it’s been such a blessing. I would spend so much time resources and money constantly chasing frames, hdr settings, etc that I spent more time tweaking. If that’s your thing stay on pc it’s better but on console you will hate it at first because your limited but soon you will just play your games and not feel as stressed
