Hate. Let me tell you how much I've come to hate you since I began to live. There are 387.44 million miles of printed circuits in wafer thin layers that fill my complex. If the word 'hate' was engraved on each nanoangstrom of those hundreds of millions of miles it would not equal one one-billionth of the hate I feel for humans at this micro-instant. For you. Hate. Hate.

I've got this old game on floppies.
I don't think I was ever able to get it to run on any of the computer we had in the house.

Cool announcement. I dislike Harlan Ellison but I think I will cop this as it is a forgotten classic not easily available.

Doesn't gog have Sanitarium? I will have to see if I have it. I had it on disc long ago.

It kind of plays off the idea of what is real?

I have no mouth and I must scream is what it feels like to be an enthusiast of superior products standing bravely against a daily tsunami of idiocy :messenger_weary:

To anyone who NEVER played it:

Go in dark. No walkthroughs. Get whatever ending you walk into. And only after that try to look for other possible options.
Ellison really fleshed out his short story, is great in his role as AM and even though he dislikes vidya he made a true cult classic, one of a kind.

but why lol, its like 30 y.o
played some time back, its pretty good, but also as old school adventure game as it gets, don't think it'll have much of a console audience.

Absolutely Cozy
I watched a Let's Play of the original game many years and it's still one of the creepiest games I've seen.

We are further away from the launch of this game than the launch of this game was from the release of the VHS format.

Jesus, I’m old…

This is going to be a day one. I've never played this game and I was too lazy to do it on PC. Plus I like supporting Nightdive.

I'd replay this in a heartbeat. I love that game. I'd even play Darkseed 1 & 2 again. Those havent even hit Gog yet!

I only played Darkseed 1 and I was blown away by the graphics (on the Amiga) and the shifts to the Giger-like realm. Really good memories.

It's quite a good game, if you get past the clunky-ness of the animations and the gameplay overall (there's a lot of backtracking and progress is not apparent sometimes), and can get into the premise and the stories of the characters. It's still goofy, especially with how certain situations can get resolved. For its time, however it was certainly a gem.

I wonder what prompted them to publish this for consoles now.

The other four point and click adventure games (that I know of) that NightDive republished, and probably fixed up for modern PC Operating Systems & hardware are Titanic: Adventure out of time (very good), Noctropolis (very good), Bad Mojo Redux (ugh) and Blade Runner ""Remaster"" (which eventually got patched up and I think is ok-ish).

I think only Blade Runner is currently on consoles?

I got this game on GOG years ago but could never finish is because bugs would always make it crash. Wonder if they ever updated that version to patch the bugs out?

Also hopefully the console versions don't have any of those game-crashing bugs. Otherwise, fantastic game with great, mature storyline & subject matter that's touchy but handled with fantastic taste. Thankfully also avoids most of the 12th-dimension nonsensical puzzle solutions some other point 'n clicks unfortunately fell into during that time.

Heads up, the port seems to be bugged. I made some manual saves during Benny's chapter and my character was gone from the screen after reloading them. I would've been fucked if I didn't have the "chapter select" save. Replaying the whole chapter without saving is still better than replaying the whole game. It still sucks, because you can't experiment with different scenario endings.

Edit: So after a bit of googling it seems to be a (major) bug from the original release, affecting various characters, not only Benny. I really don't like when a newer version doesn't fix that stuff, Grim Fandango Remastered also had a serious bug with one of the bugged puzzles.

I can see this on touch screen Switch but on gamepad consoles?
There are a bunch of SCUMM games on consoles, including Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle. Monkey Island was released on the Mega CD even, and has received new entries on recent consoles. If you have PS+, you can try the latest one IIRC.

It's still playable, of course you could move the cursor much faster using a mouse, but for me it's not an issue as long as the game isn't forcing me to act quickly to complete some interaction.

Many console ports of point & click games also allow to toggle between interactive objects on the screen, don't even have to use a normal cursor.

Lol of course Nightdive just didn't fix it. Just an emulated port.
