I Haven't Seen Land in 163 Days

Ceallach

Smells like fresh rosebuds
I've been out to sea since January 17th, not allowed to pull into any ports due to COVID. If it weren't for Amazon and GNC, I would begin to doubt land even existed anymore. It's hot as fuck out here on the open ocean and so very boring. See the world they say, but they don't say the world is mostly water.

Dude , fuck yeah! What are you on? Im a bit of a sailor myself. Pics?

Care to document the events as they happen/have happened? It could give you something to do and it sounds incredibly interesting. Just a suggestion. I'd be writing this shit down personally. It's an experience you'll remember for sure.

Can confirm land hasn't changed much. Still gets your hands dirty and is still occupied by the usual assortment of ne'er-do-wells. Thanks for sticking it out.

I thought you said you haven't been laid in 163 days. Can you confirm that you have at least been getting laid?

yeah, we did a swim call, have had some fishing calls and we have a had a few beer days where we were allowed to drink and stuff.
I bet that shit is cool as hell. Must be super aesthetic having a beer on the deck of a carrier like that just chillin'.
Jelly.

Absolutely not. Last thing I need is to get pregnant right now.

It's pretty nice. Honestly. They were really cool about having a huge variety of drinks-carlsburg, carlsburg gold, PBR, yuengling, Coors, some weird IPA, white claws. We get them every 45 days.

That's pretty fucking cool.

Hows your moral holding up?
What are you missing?

It's getting tiring.

I miss WiFi. Being on DoD computers means I'm really restricted in the sites I can go to. Like all social media is blocked, no streaming content, none of that.

I miss privacy. I am constantly, always surrounded by people. I sleep two feet above one girl and two feet below another one. I miss showering alone, without shower shoes on, being able to just hang out and lay in my bed or on my couch.

Most of all, I miss my kid. I have barely had chances to hear her voice. My sister sends me photos, but things are so crazy and I'm out here away from her for it all.

Aren't most ships on extended deployments right now because of tensions in the South China Sea?

I remember when movies made being stranded alone on a deserted island sound like something to escape.

I'd much rather be stuck in the middle of nowhere and not have to deal with this shit anymore.

I think I remember reading that submarine crews can be out to sea for like 8-10 months at a time.

Can't believe they are keeping you on a ship because of covid but they are allowing patios to be opened. 😑

I hope you get back to somewhat normal life soon OP. If I'm tired of being stuck in a home, I can just imagine what it's like being stuck on a ship.

Well, it's always about the right perspective. Some ppl are stuck on strategic submarines, and some of them having finger hovering around BIG RED BUTTON 24/7. So yeah, enjoy the sun and fresh air and staying safe from covid.

Racks in submarines are worse then on normal ships. I saw a cool nightline vid where they got to film inside a nuclear submarine and the racks were in between the tubes that housed tomahawk missiles. :messenger_grimmacing_:messenger_grimmacing_

Exactly. Also, no sun, no wind, nothing. No way to escape. Only constant anxiety, claustrophobia and nukes capable of destroying whole life on Earth stacked next to you.

Ah, Navy. I was on a cruise once that hard to get turned away from a port and head someplace else. Ended up not seeing land aside from at an extreme distance for about 14 days. About drove me crazy. 163 days? Damn. My heart goes out to you.

Sailing doesn't seem as fun as I was lead to believe.

Destroyers aren't that bad from what I've been told since they're typically ran with smaller crews and you are able to have moments of privacy more then on big ships. I've known some people that hated being on aircraft carrier but enjoyed being stationed on a destroyer.

I'd say to make sure your captain pulls into whatever port has the highest per capita number of brothels when you finally are allowed to land again, but that would probably cancel out all that time at sea. :messenger_crying:
