OMFG HOLY MOTHER OF MARY IN HEAVEN I CANT BELIEVE IT WTF WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES AAAAHHH
Fuck....I'm so emotional right now.

I can't believe there are still some things this good on cable television. What am I referring to ladies and gentlemen? Well, I've just witnesses the unbelievably awesome broadcast footage of U2 being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on VH-1. I taped the broadcast last night and am now watching it for the first time.

From Bruce Springteen's extremely entertaining introductory speech, to Bono's utterly mind blowing, amazing and heartfelt speech, to the Edge telling it like it is and how Rock and Roll still lives on, to the band's ridiculously awesome performance of Until the End of the World and I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For....this was something that had to be seen to believed.

I urge anyone who even remotely enjoys U2's music, to catch one of the repeats of VH-1's R&R Hall of Fame Special and wait until about an hour into it.

I can't describe how PERFECT everything went, as far as the speeches and the perfromances. It's such a joy to see one of my favorite bands of all time finally getting their due, and being honored like this.

Congratulations guys, your fans are proud of you :)

I taped the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame show also--I'm glad to see U2 get inducted in the Hall of Fame :) Springsteen's speech was awesome! I can't wait to see them again this tour!

More info on the ceremony--speech transcripts, photos, etc.

B.T.W. Bruce Springsteen's induction speech is on about an hour and half into the show :D

As a citizen of Cleveland, I have to say Fuck the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies!

My city is the equivalent of the Goatsex guy, bending over and spreading it for those glory hounds in New York.

If I had any political aspirations, I'd have to go all Mayor Mike Haggar on New York City and get our induction ceremonies back. Not that we ever had them in the first place.

Sorry folks, but when after you've lived in Cleveland for a while you'll be sick of the crap our leaders let slip. I would only think this would draw national attention, tourism, and media coverage to our city. ARRRRRRGH! Our mayor is in need of donkey punching, send in Mike Tyson!

It's such a sham.

I CALL SHENANIGANS!

Anyhow - aside from that, good on the artists.

That's one thing I never understood --why the induction ceremonies are in New York City, yet the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame is in Cleveland. I could understand having the ceremonies in New York while they were building the Hall of Fame, but since it's open why not also have the ceremonies there also?

Cleveland is too dirty for all the celebrities.

It's because Cleveland's governing body allows places like New York to push it around. Oh, they'll get theirs! In the form of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame raining explosive wax Elvis statues on them as it flies through the sky like Gamera, or a Catherine Wheel. Whichever you prefer. :p

But seriously, given the crowning of Cleveland as the poorest major city in America; in addition to other very real problems (Such as shit population retention), I would think our leaders would be looking for obvious solutions such as this and working the angles. I mean, just a quick speculative situation - promote the low cost of living the local media and minor business mavens here can't shut up about, and lure people here for special events like the induction.

ARGH!

Oh well. It's not just me. Every year local columnist Dick Feagler busts our balls about it, but considering Cleveland was also recently voted really fat, depressed, and poorly educated; I can't expect my fellow citizens to read the paper. >:|

Sorry, maybe this can be pruned and moved to a new thread or something. This really doesn't affect anybody living outside of the alleged Rock & Roll Capitol of the World. Shit, what was the last good band to come out of Cleveland? :X

Nine Inch Nails is the last thing to spring to mind, that isn't glory snatching rubbish like Marilyn Manson who in fact is not from Cleveland.

Don't our hot naked news anchors count for anything?!

She was on the news last week wearing this black dress with a leather bustier. Hooooey! I never knew I'd need Kleenex to watch the news. :X

Edit: Here's the link to the Harvey Pekar strip that caused our Mayor to have a hissy fit in the local media attempting to spin against Pekar telling it like it is.

Wtf?

I thought the White House blew up.

You owe me a moment of excitement and anticipation, buster

Obviously you, as well as everyone else in here are too young to appreciate the contributions U2 has made to music. A suggestion....go listen to a little known album of theirs called "The Joshua Tree".

That's a big fat 10-4.

Come on, you can always go to Garfield Heights and pretend you're in a higher standard of living than you actually are. Garfield Heights is Pseudo Parma. I reckon it's for the polaks that got lost on the 77 to 480 merge.

Chicago and Markham also take a shit on Cleveland in terms of stuff to do.

What's funny is how people here have this really big sense of self. Dude, you're not hot shit. You live in Cleveland. I mean it would be something if we were known for something other than causing an East Coast blackout (Admittedly, it was nice being in total darkness and being able to see the stars so easily, but the lack of clean running water sucked) and setting our god damn river on fire. Sheeee-it. :p

I also feel really bad for the local rap scene. These guys are always talking about "Represent C-Town, Represent the 216" blah - blah. Then why in the hell do you sound like fuckin' Chingy?

We're cheaper than a Hong Kong knock-off.

I should see if Iron Maiden is in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. If not, then I'll burn that bitch to the ground. TO THE GROUND!

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.

I don't get why so many people seem to hate it, though (that is, the "U2 sucked after The Joshua Tree" argument).

Yeah, it's a mystery to me as well....
