I miss Deus Ex

Embracer just bought a bunch of shit up and went and killed studios and ip's for the fuck of it.
Kind of, there's a couple of steps missing from your sentence.

1. Embracer bought a bunch of shit up
2. They spent way too much money on B-level I.P. and mismanaged
3. They incidentally killed multiple I.P.s due to this
4. They now know what they're doing and are using the "THQ Nordic" Brand yet again for good will

HR is a masterpiece game for me. That game, piss filter and all, brought such a cool atmosphere. I still haven't seen a game bring that kind of atmosphere. There was just something about it.

Mankind Divided kinda dropped that a bit, but was still good in its own regard. If we had gotten the second part of that game to tie everything together, I think it would be just as highly regarded as HR.

I really, really need to play HR and MD at some point. I played DX 1 + 2 back in the day and have owned both of the newer games since they came out. Prey was also a god-tier game to me but I've somehow never started those last two games.

I still remember the hubbub of DX 2 being 'consolized' by some angry PC gamers. I thought the game was fine but I still kinda miss seeing that word online. I think we should bring it back.

I still hope one day they do revive it.

Can't believe it's almost been a decade since we last got a game
The issue is, modern western devs have no ability to handle this subject matter, a final Deus Ex game should have come out no later than 2019.

In a post COVID world and so many other things, how could anyone tackle conspiracy theory in a way that would stay true to the old games? I cringe to think how badly it could be screwed up.

It's so very sad that the franchise seems to be in cryo atm. I'm not sure it's absolutely dead but it probably won't be back for a very long time at best. There's nothing else that fulfils the void it's left.

I'm sorry guys but DX1>>>>>>>>>DXIW>>>>>>>>>>>DXHR>>>DXMD
Which is why it's always funny to not even see IW being mentioned in these threads.

They bought studios which would otherwise be closed around the time they've bought them.

Excluding the protagonist's design, this was the closest thing i have seen that gave Deus Ex vibes

Deus ex and the eidos sequels was a killer series !

Really the first one was like playing a William Gibson novel (and almost as hard to understand plotwise for teenager me than a Gibson novel :messenger_grinning_sweat: )

For those comparing Deus ex and cyberpunk 2077, Deus ex would be the johnny mnemonic short story while cyberpunk would be the hollywood adaptation with Keanu.

Great games. I miss them too. At least there'll be a remaster of the first game.
Doesn't really fill the void, but it's better than nothing.

Hoping it'll so well enough for a proper sequel. That ending in MD was just bad. Ended so suddenly it just wasn't finished. HR is my favorite of the 3 (excluding that one game that should have never happened in the first place).

Immersive sims hold a special place in my heart. Easily my most preferred gameplay design.

Loved Human Revolution, Mankind Divided missed the mark completely for me. Seems like that was the case for a lot of people, hence the death of the series.

Wrong. Mankind Divided sold very well and is very popular in general within the community. Square Enix was at fault here not the game

Does anyone still find Mankind Divided worth revisiting despite the blatant Black Lives Matter bullshit? I think inside is an excellent game, but the not so subtle politics of it always make me do a double take before a reinstall. Exploration is so top notch as though. And Prague is gorgeous.

First game was excellent too, but fuck the boss the fights. And I really wish the Directors Cut was brought over to PS4.

I think I prefer MD over HR, or at least the original HR. Both amazing, but the latter had some fucking lame boss fights.

This is also another reason to play them both again.

The original (ps2 version) on ps5 via ps plus backwards compat is extremely playable. Especially since you can map the controller however you like.

It's basically a remaster. Honestly.

I replayed Deus Ex last year, even if it was the inferior PS2 version (at least I can say I finished a new version ;p). Finally planning to replay Human Revolution this year, it's way better than Mankind Divided in my opinion (which I also really liked).

I like the sequels very much, but OG DX is still unsurpassed. It really deserves a proper AAA high quality high faithfulness remake that would add the GMDX goodies.

I think I also enjoyed MD over HR because I think the gameplay was better and even the level design might've been better (hard to remember the levels exactly though).

I'm in my playthrough of Deus Ex The Conspiracy, the PS2 classic. I play it on PS5 and with the rewind functionality+ the option to map the controls, it's fantastic. Majestic 12, The Illuminati, UNATCO; I can't get enough of it :)

I highly recommend it! I love Deus Ex as well, played them all (even the sequel on original Xbox..) and it's hard to find another game which hits the same. I really liked Dishonored 1 & 2, Prey as well. And don't forget Bioshock!
I intend on playing the remaked of System Shock 1 & 2 after I beat Deus Ex.

One of my favorite franchises of all time. Only played the PS2 version of the original back in the day though and had a blast with Human Revolution on Xbox 360. Mankind Divided was a miss for me though.

Is there any way to play the original Deus Ex on Windows 11 without resolution issues? Can't ever seem to get it to launch correctly through Steam.

What is the best way to play Deus Ex The Conspiracy, is it through or via PS4/PS5 with the rewind features it has, or is it through the PC versions? I assume they don't have the rewind feature either...is it worth getting from Steam or GOG?

Did that janky Deus Ex remake that was revealed recently get cancelled?
Remaster, and no, they've just scrapped the version which was disliked by everyone and postpone the release.
But tbh I don't think that DX1 needs a remaster. Hell, IW and HR remasters would be more preferable.

Humamn Revolution is the only WiiU game I wish they made a port to switch. What an amazing experience. One of the few times I bought a game without knowing exactly what I would get and I it became one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. Beat that 4 times.

I miss that game.

I bought cyberpunk on Switch 2 just to get something with similar vibes.

It worked.

As much as I adore the original Deus Ex, I have to disagree with this. I can fire it up right now and play for hours and have a great time, but when I tried to get my wife into it she played for about ten minutes and just wasn't really getting it for some reason. Got her on HR and she just got it more.

The game is legendary, but I feel like it's become one of those, 'masterpiece of its time' type things, and a comprehensive remaster/remake could bring in a whole new demographic of people who simply need more updated, "modern", controller friendly gameplay to truly get invested in the game.

The remaster they showed was not the way, but a remaster is not necessarily a bad thing I think, if for nothing else than an updated control scheme.
