I need a new BitTorrent client...recommendations?

I don't exactly know what the deal is, but it seems like BitComet has just gotten all screwed up. I'm not sure if it was brought on by my new ISP or something, but now whenever I'm donwloading a torrent, my web browsing is really slow, and IRC use is really lagged. The weird thing is that if I am doing a direct file download or working over newsgroups, I still score upwards of 300k/s.....so it's not like the thing is just eating up all the available bandwidth. The speeds I get are usually not even that great (something like 30-70k).

Does anyone know if this problem can be fixed? I have no router or anything screwing stuff up...just a cable modem.

If there's no way around it then I might as well just try something different and hope it isn't as screwed up. The slow downloads aren't so bad (I've never known BT to be very fast with any client), but the stalled web browsing is driving me nuts. New client suggestions?

I've been using bittornado, I like it for its simplicity and it gets the job done without any hit on performance.

Yeah, I've been using Bittornado too, works well.

As for your speed hit ... that still occasionally happens to me and I've always known it to be expected. I'm no expert with Bit Torrent, but there's a big hunk of uploading going on too. You could very well be uploading to a whole wack of people, making it even worse.

The worst is when I start up XBL and I'm getting terrible lag, then realize that I had a torrent going the entire time. I'm just glad my roommates don't know anything about the software, heh.

For me, if I cap the upload speed by about 30-40% while Im downloading, the download will reach the top speeds quite easily.

Azureus is my client of choice.

Before when I was torrenting in the background, it'd fuck up my browsing. Dropped connections when loading sites etc.

But then I reset my cable modem and Belkin Wireless router and all has been well since.

I have to do this every month or so though. No idea what causes this.

Different trackers are limiting Azureus now because of all the different hacks for it.

You can set your upload to as high as you want, and spoof it the whole time. Allows you to get maximum download speed on torrents without having to upload.

Really. I never noticed. What would be better?

What client uses the less amount of memory and doesnt have ridiculous memory leaks (or does more efficient memory management)? I have been using Bittornado.... it uses stupid amount of memory. For example if I have three clients running, they might be using around 50 megs each (according to task manager), but if I close them, it could be something like 500 megs of memory that is freed. There must more efficient clients..??

if you hate Java - BitComet or BitTornado
Avoid G3 Torrent like the plague. It sure looks pretty, but it is buggy as hell.

Azureus does and so does Bittornado. I'm not sure about the other ones though.

Shit, I never knew you could do that. So you're saying if I only wanted one track from an album I could just get that one track? Tell me how in Azureus this instant!

It uses 20 MB's according to my taskmanager, this is while downloading around 100 kb/s and 60 up. On top of that I only have 384 MB's of RAM total, so I think it's something not working properly in your system rather than bittornado.

Bitlord for me. If anyone's used Bitlord and recommends another, I'd like to hear it.

Bitlord does this as soon as the torrent is opened, all files are selected by default.

Yeah but I have read that people are having this same issue, Bittornado consumes more memory if your PC has more memory. There's a sticky thread about this at BitTornado forums. Well, I guess I just have to experiment with other clients. Its just that I like BitTornado, other than the memory problems. Anyway, have you checked how much memory is freed if you cancel/close that client thats using 20MB?
