It's a fantastic case. Cable management was fantastic when I was setting it up last night, and it's just well built and well laid out. The fans are very quiet also.
Did you buy any extra fans with it? What's your build?

24hours P95 is nonsense and puts your CPU/Motherboard in unneeded risks. You can pass 24Hrs and still get a BSOD with opening more Chrome tabs while doing a AV scan.
Just do a quick 20 times full ram tests, then do some multi-tasking tests like encode a videos or run loops of cinebench, AV scans while surfing NGAF with multiple tabs, then play some MP games and if all is fine, you can close the case and continue with normal uses.
I need some help with RAM, my dudes. I don't know what to go with. I want 16GB, but I have no idea what brand or type under the brand to buy. I understand that with some coolers, you need low profile. I have a Dark Rock 3, dunno if that would bother it. I want it as cheap as I can get it, but I don't want to skimp out either. Any recommendations?

It's luck of the draw, some chips have terrible die contact and just run super super hot.I think a lot of guides are written based on better coolers. I have a 4790k (4.0GHz base and 4.4 GHz boost), and read some guide saying to start with 1.2V at 4.4GHz. I couldn't get anywhere near that with Hyper 212 Evo, at least not under sustained load. I got to 4.3GHz at 1.11V, and that seemed to run fairly stable but also getting over 80C.
Then I read fluffydelusions' post about his experience with the Noctua NH-D14, decided I need that in my life, and now 1.2V is suddenly not a problem anymore. Currently testing 4.7GHz at 1.29V and temperature is not a problem yet.
The basic settings are the same, you just want to tweak the voltage using offset or manual and set multiplier to 40 or 41 or 42.So I want to do an overclock for my PC that I've had for about 2 years now; specs as follows -
-i5-3570K with Hyper 212 EVO
-Asus P8Z77-V motherboard
About 3 months ago, I was messing around with the BIOS after reading the OC guide in the OP, and was totally confused mostly because the guide was for a Gigabyte board, which shows different BIOS options than my ASUS. I ended up finding an option that I think was 'turbo boost' or something, and enabled it.
So I guess I'm looking for a better guide for the overclocking, and a way to reset the processor to stock values before doing an overclock.
I'm not looking to push my processor to the limit, as I'm not that confident I'll do it safely, but I'd like to try to get it to 3.9-4.0 and leave it there.
It doesn't make great use of it no.I've heard that even though some cards have 4GBs of vram, they aren't fast enough to actually use it all. Is this correct? Would a 760 with 4GB vram be fast enough to use it all?
That 430W is a budget supply. Wattage is fine though. The 500W version usually is like $5 more in the US and has been in the sheets at least once.Cool, thanks for that. Will look into it in more depth, but got a couple of initial questions.
- Does it need that much power, 550W vs the 430W I had down as the power estimate suggests it is overkill unless it is to cover potential crossfire usage?
- For videocards, I know the one you picked is GDDR5 but is quantity not needed now going forward? So 4GB and up? Also running two screens and multiple windows (i.e firefox with shit load of tabs, itunes, photoshop and say unity with a lot of resources potentially).
- For the storage I need more size so would probably keep close to what I selected.
On the motherboard/case format, I am not set in stone on a mini ITX, just on a smallish profile that is generally white. And yeah the the limit 26cm width for the case. Hadn't seen that fractal case before, will check out some videos on it. I mostly picked the Prodigy case as it was laid out so simply, makes it easier to put together and maintain since I am rusty. Had looked at the case NZXT H230 but its really long, got like a 440mm limit length wise. My desk is a pain in the arse for holding a PC but the rest is great so kinda stuck.
So this is my final attempt at making a PC, I know it's quite a lot, but I want this to last me years so I'd rather pay a bit more than to have to upgrade bit by bit, want at least a 4-5 year investment in this so the price doesn't bother me at all:

Cheapest ram with low profile heatsinks.
1600mhz cl9
1866mhz cl10

Make sure you get X99 for the mobo. The X79 is old.
Make sure you get an i7-5820K 6 core
Ditch the 840 EVO it has a firmware bug in it atm. M550/MX100/840 Pro or 850
Spend more on the PSU IMO. It's like another $30 more for a decent gold unit, will pay out in electricity anyway.
Get a standalone wifi card/USB/or give PowerLine Networking a try.

No?i7-5820K? why? that's gotta be 700$+ for CPU. Could you please explain why that's necessary? Honest question.
Because I don't want to keep track of so many options and be responsible for them. One of the builds i saw in the OP looks ideal for me but i've been put off building PCs myself ever since i fried my motherboard :/
Where aren't there any pre-built PC recommendations in the OP?
It doesn't need that much power, but I chose it as it will allow a future upgrade of your video card and due to it being modular, making a tidier build and also potentially assisting airflow.Cool, thanks for that. Will look into it in more depth, but got a couple of initial questions.
- Does it need that much power, 550W vs the 430W I had down as the power estimate suggests it is overkill unless it is to cover potential crossfire usage?
Having lots of VRAM is only useful if the video card you buy is actually good enough to use that VRAM. Unless you're buying an R9 280/X, R9 290/X or 970+ then 2GB is gonna be enough.- For videocards, I know the one you picked is GDDR5 but is quantity not needed now going forward? So 4GB and up? Also running two screens and multiple windows (i.e firefox with shit load of tabs, itunes, photoshop and say unity with a lot of resources potentially).
That's fine, there's still room in the budget! I would certainly keep the SSD though, it's 100% required- For the storage I need more size so would probably keep close to what I selected.
It's a shame your limit is 26cm, as the Aerocool DS Cube White would be perfect for you except it's 26.5cmOn the motherboard/case format, I am not set in stone on a mini ITX, just on a smallish profile that is generally white. Is the cooling up to scrach, and will the blu-ray be able to play 3d?
Also for the RAM it;s because I only have an option to get 2 8GB's not 4 4GB's. I didn't know spreading them out but having the same size bettered it, though?
Yes MX100/550 are great.Thinking about getting an ssd for this computer. Crucial still one of the top makers?

The Benq should be a solid buy, the other two I can't say. I was looking into getting an Acer 120hz and the reviews were not so positive, not sure if it was that one.
Cooling is okay for stock or light OC.
You want a BIGGER PSU not smaller. What do they have 1 notch up above the VS550?
BR playback is something I'm not familiar with since software is funky and you need a 3D Monitor/TV/cable.
2x8GB is better. Less load, power, and leaves you room to upgrade.

You need DDR4 ram for Haswell-E (unless DDR3 was just a typo).

Sooooooo, just did my first build in a long time and have a question.
Build is as follows :
I7 4790k
8gb crucial ballistix
225 6gb crucial MX100
MSI 970 4gb
I'm using the stock cooler and it seems max CPU temp hits about 82 degrees max, is this OK or do I need a better cooler? No overclock involved.
Cheers!
Check the voltage, and update your mobo's BIOS. Some mobo's default to giving the 4790k much more voltage than is needed without a BIOS update.
On latest beta drivers? Load Temps?Hey figured this was the best place to post my question so with the release of Shadow of Mordor my gpu has been crashing drivers left and right (every 25ish minutes) so the game is unplayable for me.
It happened with Dark Souls 2 (maybe like 5 times with 145 hours on it) and Archeage (only when I play for a long time) too so I was wondering if its my card or what.
I have a EVGA 650 SC 2gb. I looked up stuff for it and someone else had the issue and lowered the core clock and memory clock in MSI Afterburner since it is factory oc'd (i think?) So how should I go about doing this or maybe there is another fix that I don't know.
Yeah I'd just go with the 650650W for £10 more
Or I can go for this - CORSAIR 750W CS SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET (£79)
Or this - CORSAIR 1000W RM SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET (£139)
bringing the total to £1497 / £1511
Don't really want to go above that, so will all of this be compatible and suffice? Should be a 5-10 year purchase?
I thought quad-channel runs better with 4 sticks to take advantage of the increased bandwidth? Is that not the case?
Anyway, sorry about giving wrong advice about this!
Shit, good catch. I'm melting hereYou need DDR4 ram for Haswell-E (unless DDR3 was just a typo).

I have a request for PC Gaf with a GTX 780 or GTX 970.
Can you please run a Unigene Valley bench at 1080p ultra HD Preset?
Please post the GPU clocks and the rest of the PC specs. And of course your results from the bench.
My friends GTX 970 with a small overclock hits 55fps avg, my GTX 780 hits 65 fps at 901/3000mhz (stock) and 77fps at 1220/3600mhz. That's with a 3770 @ 4.2Ghz.
I'm wondering if getting a 970 is worth it after seeing this.
With an overclocked gigabyte 970 @ 1547/3954MHz and an i5 2500K @ 4.3, I get 1600 on the Unigene Heaven benchmark with ~65 average fps. I could push it a tiny bit further but I haven't taken the time to get the right OC ratios or anything.
Yeah I'm not sure why it's so low. Maybe drivers? I'm seeing high clocked 980s getting 75fps average. I get 73fps with my daily overclock of 1100/3200mhz on the 780.
Have you got shadow of mordor? We could compare benches.
Damn Prime95 got my stock 3770K CPU to nearly 100C. It's hot as hell in LA, and I have no home cooling, but still, I need to dust this PC and probably get a cooler. What's a decent one for about $40?
everything looks good to me, and that is a helluva build. gonna kick some major ass. hope you've got a sweet monitor to take advantage of it.
i'd wait for mkenyon or one of the resident X99 folks to chime in before pulling the trigger but i think you're set.
So I just upgraded to a gtx 970 from a 4890. I don't remember ever using this much system ram but I'm right at 5.8gb according to windows task messenger playing PlanetSide 2 on ultra settings. There's some issue with a recent update causing hitching on a large number of users which I am in fact getting, but I think it's mainly because I'm right at the edge of my ram limit as I only have 6gb. Problem is my CPU is an i7920. Is it even worth upgrading my ram setup to say, 3x4gb or should I just get a whole new cpu/motherboard/ram?
Nah it's the mount of the CPU itself. Some chips just run super hot.Yeah C, we're talking full load 30 degrees idle which seems to be ok. Maybe a better cooler is in order.
Get low profile RAM if you can.Cool, thanks guys, so before I order, these will be the finals, everything is compatible and will work smoothly, no over heating etc?

Well the easy fix is don't play on Ultra. That game wants all the CPU power it can get (Like 4Ghz+ i7). Dunno if there's tweaks you can do to lower RAM usage. So I just upgraded to a gtx 970 from a 4890. I don't remember ever using this much system ram but I'm right at 5.8gb according to windows task messenger playing PlanetSide 2 on ultra settings. If I were to get this- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ..._re=triple_channel_ram-_-20-226-250-_-Product would it be compatible with a new Intel CPU when I upgrade at a later date, or does the ram have to be dual channel(as in 2x6b sticks)?
Up to you and what you want to play. Personally I don't want to deal with dual GPU so I'd just grab a 970 myself. So GAF, with the release of the 9xx cards, eBay prices for 7xx cards have dropped.
I currently have a 2GB 770. If I wanted to upgrade, would you suggest spending a paltry ~£150 on a second 770 and SLI, or sell it for the same insignificant sum (minus your eBay fees) and get a 780 Ti for ~£310 (so about £200 after cuts). That's assuming my card sells.
Or would you just avoid eBay all together, and save for a 970 or 10xx?
IDK I haven't followed monitors much. The SWIFT coming out now probably(?) will be alone as a niche item for at least a few more months I think. For some reason I've got the urge to get a ROG swift even though the price tag is ridiculous, I'd be upgrading from an Asus VE248H. The complete package of the swift is really appealing, that said is there anything on the horizon that will have all the same features? I think I saw the Linus review and he stated that there won't be anything similar for another year (which sounds a bit far fetched)
I've currently got gtx970 would this be enough, or would I be looking at a SLI setup
What's recommended for updating the BIOS for a Gigabyte Z97-D3H: USB stick or the Windows app Gigabyte have for it? I read that using the app causes problems and increases the risk of MB failure in the long run.
Prettttttty hyped.Just replaced my PSU today. I felt like King Arthur pulling those wires out, I had no idea I had the strength to put them in like that.
I'm going to be upgrading my graphics card in the next few months. I have a Radeon HD 6850 that I bought in 2011. I've been thinking about switching to Nvidia even though I've only had AMD cards. I'm thinking of jumping on the GTX 970. How hyped should I be about the graphical leap?
